Apologies for the silly question, but I bought the 8866 Train Motor from the Lego Store yesterday, and it's only after getting home and waking up a bit that I've realised it doesn't have a power lead to attach it to a battery box. You can also use a #8886 to connect to your 9V motor if you want to use PF lights #8870.

I was toying with the idea of getting a couple extra extension cables (#8886) since they are only $2.99 and seeing if I can rig up a speed control.

Both extension cables, available at S@H, should work for you. Product codes are 8871 and 8886. There are people out there that cut wires and do very clever things. I use these cables.

Apologies for the delayed response, and thanks for the explanation. I've ordered an 8886 cable, and I have a couple of spare USB cables. Once it's arrived I'll have a go at following the above instructions and will report back once done.
