Rebrickable is a great site for extra alternative build for sets. For example #5867 Super Speedster has 3 alternate builds, #6743 has 6 alternate builds, many more sets have those. -

They don't seem to fit well with a city layout. I have a #6743 that I picked up in a bulk lot, it is 8 studs wide and iirc then you cannot fit a minifig in the seat (without making it a drop-top car). Cool plates for doors though... One option is buying the sets with the cars in (the new auto transporter or #4207 are good… -
