They didn't do re-releases then. Same set; snazzy box; smart marketing - #75159 would sell like hot cakes at the moment; and an EOLed #10188 wouldn't.

This is exactly what is happening for next year. It's going to cost quite a bit (read significantly) more though. Ask yourself - would you pay the original RRP plus reseller markup on ebay for a retired 10188, or would you pay that same price for a new updated set?
