It's the newer one still in stores 75055 right?

Yeah its well and truely gone #75054 and #75055! Sold out about a month ago on the lego website and everywhere else before that even!

As mentioned, it greatly depends on what is left in the box. Also, which Star Destroyer it is. For $60, I'd buy a mostly complete #10030 for parts, but probably not a mostly complete #75055.

Should a guy buy a retail-priced #75055 Star Destroyer to later re-sell? The thing is ugly and small IMHO so I would not open it. Would there still be a market for it in a couple of years?

Stock check says there are x number available when
[email protected] shows 0 available and the next day the graph looks like is manually reset to 0. See DS, ToO or #75055 for examples. It still shows 113 #42021 in stock but the set is sold out.

I agree that the new movie shouldn't impact retired sets. The biggest torpedo of value is a re-design/re-release. #8129 AT-AT is down about 25% from its peak since #75054 AT-AT, and #6211 Star Destroyer is down about 20% with #75055. And, imo, even more of a problem than reduced value is the reduced # of sales.

I'm torn about whether to buy it as a potential build that I could…

'Sold outs' are popping up at
[email protected] US (though lately 'sold out' does not mean much anymore at
[email protected], but anyway) I think the latest notables are: #60075 Excavator and truck #60057 Camper Van #60007 High Speed Chase (guessing someone at LEGO is saying 'thank god' for that one to finally be gone) #76012 Batman the Riddler Chase…
