In the past month, I have watched a few used #6243 Brickbeard's Bounty, and the auction ending prices for very similar used models has varied from £37.21 to £119.90. What a really unusually large variance!

#6243 Brickbeard's Bounty is almost the same set. Retired in 2010 and can routinely be purchased at 1.5x-2x retail. That is basically the same ship as we just saw. I would say that's your top end for the most recent retiree.

While I agree with most of that, personally I thought at the time that was a very optimistic review, #70413 looks pretty awful to me in the flesh, and ranks a poor second best to #6243 (much better in the flesh that I expected) let alone the grand masters of pirate ships.

I'd expect QAR and BP to perform similar to (or slightly outperform) 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty from a few years ago...potentially outperform due to more complex builds and better adult theming. While BP is the more 'iconic' ship from the movies, I think QAR will be a better bet from a % gain perspective as it is larger and…

But I also think IF has done well because it is a ship and that it will probably be the last "big" one released for a long time. OTOH for Castle collectors I think that Joust will be a set that once the theme is re-introduced (and it…

Yeah, in the past six months, new copies of #9446 have sold for $120 to $160. The original price was $80, so that's a 50% to 100% increase in just four years — pretty substantial! It hasn't risen as precipitously in price as the Black Pearl or Queen Anne's Revenge, but compared to #6243 Brickbeard's Bounty (which in…

Really? Because the closest equivalent to 70411 Treasure Island during that period was 6241 Loot Island, and that set was terrible (and regrettably, the only 2009 Pirates set I actually owned — I bought it for the base and to date have only managed to use that base piece for one MOC). Other than the giant, specialized…
