So, to put this even more into perspective... I grabbed a Green Grocer on sale AT Lego
[email protected] for $118 + No tax. Here it is 2016 and a Brick Bank is $169.99 + 6% sales tax = $180.19. I bought the GG when they were EOL, so that's the end of 2010, so we can basically say 2011, but I will use 2010 inflation. That $118 is $129.47…

It depends on how you look at the data. Using the following conditions to run a query shows a definite increase in sets that would typically be carried by retailers. Category = Normal Packaging Type = Box Availability <> Not Sold Availability <> LEGO Exclusive 2010: 125 2011: 118 2012: 201 2013: 172 2014: 245 2015: 289

I did buy too early as they still have some…

I can pick up a number of these for $58AUD ($61USD, £38 or €46) 17% off AU RRP, as I do not…

That's not bad, but if you factor in discounts on all the modulars before the "ban", $169.99…

A few thoughts: All 5 of the current modulars were in the US catalog. I'm not sure exactly what that means but I would expect that none would disappear for at least a couple more months. #21118 does look interesting as a discontinued that you can buy below RRP. I like to use bricklink to see what the market is and this one…
