I just powered my Maersk engine (#10219) with the Power Functions Train Motor (#88002) as described in the instructions. Turns out that it's not a very powerful motor and can barely pull another unpowered engine + 4 cars around the track. My Emerald Night has much better pulling power with the #8882 XL Motor. Anyway, has…

@Paperballpark, #8883 and #8882 are 6 in length, #88003 is 7.

Also will the XL-motor #8882 work instead of the M-motor #8883?

I found you can use - 8884 - 8882 - 8878 - 8887 - 8867 - 8870 - 8879 but doesn't say 8293. Also which of above is a minimum to motorise the train ? Thanks

I think so. 3677 has the wheels, battery box, IR receiver, and the remote control. You'll also need a bunch of AAA batteries. Of course, then the 3677 won't have PF, but you gotta make sacrifices. Also, looking at the design of the Holiday train you MIGHT need the 8882 power box instead. It's the smaller cylinder style…

The main governing factors of a train being able to pull its weight is: a) Is the motor powerful enough? b) Does the engine have enough enough traction against the track to utilize that power? This applies to pulling lots of cars, very heavy cars, cars around a curve, or up a grade. It's all the same really from the…

It is awesome, and one thing people don't realize is that the EN uses power functions, but it uses the Technic XL motor #8882 and gearing, not the slap-on PF trucks #88002. Thusly, it's much more powerful (can pull more cars), runs more smoothly at slower speeds and maybe best of all, doesn't have the incessant #88002…
