   Of course, other explanations are available. In fact, I have done exactly that for 8029 and 6968 which were also never released.

   It is an impressive collection, though. I'd love to know what exactly the deal is with the items that were never released by Lego (#6968. #8029 and #8040).

   ^ sure, but the difference to a collector is that they will be available and some people (me being one of them) just have to have the bag/instructions + set. The difference with 8029 is you can't get it through official channels.

   While I can understand how product collections that don't exist in the wild might be removed why then are virtual sets such as this http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8029-1 included? If I'm not mistaken this set was never released and only the instructions were made available.
