I'm new to lego trains and need some help. Whats the difference between 590 an x1688? How can I identify which one is which? The pictures on bricklink all look the same.

This was my first Lego set. Engine CO. NO. 9 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=590-1

Lego Firehouse # 590. It handed down to me. It was the only set I had for years. (but have since made up for the lack of Lego from childhood!)
-
From what I remember of my #590 the torso stickers for the firemen were the same shape as the torso. Those stickers look square to me, so they may not be for Minifigures.

My favorite is also the first set I can remember getting. Santa brought me #590 Engine Co. No. 9, and that started my love affair for LEGO.

My first lego set #590 Engine Co. No. 9. I still have it but I had to buy some of more delicate pieces that didn't survive my childhood.

https://ideas.lego.com/projects/123431 Another art project. I know the art ones don't do well but it does have a better chance through the review process considering the amount of pieces: 590.

Stickered fireman is in eight sets, several of which are just differently numbered US and European versions: #374 and #590, #602 and #6602, #672 and #556, #6690, #620. The #6000 Idea Book also had six of those stickers.

590 Engine Company No. 9 I still have it, but not all original (some broken parts replaced, and pieces were mixed with other sets I had) I have it mostly sorted in a bag waiting it's turn to get cleaned and rebuilt.

When I was 4 my mom took me to see The Empire Strikes Back. I still loved Star Wars up to the last jedi. The other on is one Xmas Santa got me #590 which continues my love of LEGO to this day.
