With all of the current web outlets for LEGO 'MOC's', is there still an avenue or possibility for TLG to produce sets such as the Blacksmith Shop (3739-1)? Or has the likes of eBay, Bricklink, etc., killed this venture?

I also love the Medieval Market, but others have picked that one. So I'm going for 3739 (The Blacksmith shop). Increadible attention to details, great build, interesting parts... that set has it all. http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=3739-1 Runner up would be 6765 (Gold City Junction), for the same reasons. The whole…

^ yes 6103-1 was the later and more common version. ^^ & ^^^ Thank you for your interest, but I only have four sets now left: 6038 - Wolfpack Renegades, 6085 - Black Monarch's castle, 6086 - Black Knight's castle, and 3739 - Blacksmith shop.

I picked up the Blacksmith shop 3739 for £25 Inc postage off ebay this week. It was missing 1 1x1 brick and the female minifig. I then picked up the female minifig for £5 on ebay a few days later. Absolute bargain, great set as well.

The first one that LEGO openly admitted to doing this was the 3739 Blacksmith Shop, which was initially designed by Dan Siskind (LEGO supposedly paid him pretty well): http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=3739-1 Since then, 10212 is the only set I know of that was "largely based" on an existing MOC design. However, LEGO has…

OK, the time of year has come to sort out my Lego. The sets listed below are all 100% complete with instructions (and boxes where mentioned). All polybags are brand new sealed. The empty boxes are generally in good condition for their age, but they each have their own description. Some of these sets are listed elsewhere,…

^ Yes, but the LEGO license is based on the movie not the books. It could be very true that Toklien envisioned the structures in his novels in a very classic medieval sense, but the fact of the matter is all of what we know of LoTR in a visual sense is based off of Peter Jackson's films. PJ decided to go in a very…

^ Yeah, I think LEGO opened the door to a lot of "Give us Lord of the Rings" and "Bring back Green Grocer" and "Bring back -whatever-". I think they want new ideas. Some people also put out very general ideas without a real MOC. My impression was that they want actual, completely-realized, sell-able MOCs, like the 3739…

For the record, the cost of producing a re-released set is dependent on what else is being manufactured at the same time. If LEGO isn't producing the 1x8x2 Dark Blue arch, or the Black 1x4 Door, or the Dark Red 1x1 headlights, (or whatever-else), then they have to set up molding runs of those particular parts that aren't…
