I see what you mean. Although it is a different part, the Monster / Frankenstein can be traced back further to the Studios 1382 Scary Laboratory set. As can the Mad Scientist (again, completely different hairpiece).

How does one pick a single favorite? Guess at the minute I'd pick the Frankenstein we just got in the bulk Lego we bought today because it only came in set #1382-1 Scary Laboratory. It's very cool and complete!

I can't see it as a core theme, but I can see it getting repeated in a different guise, in the same way that Monster Fighters seems to be a remake of some of the old Studio sets (e.g #1380 : Werewolf Ambush, #1381 : Vampire's Crypt & #1382 : Scary Laboratory)
