Hi, without knowing what motors and other Power Functions accessories he has, it's difficult to say, but you will need #8884 IR Receiver, at the very least. This will connect to a motor and battery box and allow the motor to be controlled. You can see all available Power Functions accessories…

There are instructions for using Power Functions in the train contained in the instructions for it. The online copy of the instructions is on the page for it here: #10254 but I've also linked it directly here. The instructions also tell you what you need. Basically, you need #8879, #8884, #88002 and #88000. You can use…

Do you want to reuse parts from the Yellow Cargo when possible or do you want duplicates so both trains are ready to go at all times? If you want to reuse parts you already have from the Yellow Cargo, I think all you need extra are 8870 Lights. (Edit: Nevermind, read that you want both to run at the same time, see below :)…

If you want track, you can get power-function (non wired) track from pick a brick at $3 a piece (ugh - way too expensive), but you're better off getting it in a set like the…

Hi all, big thanks to your quick replies, it’s much appreciated. Bandit778, those links are really helpful thank you Panchox1, thank you, I too went mad on the Christmas village and bought 4 scenes, some old retired sets. They were worth it seeing my granddaughters faces when they saw them set up as I also bought the light…

If it is creator sets like the fairground sets then he will want m motors and a battery box. He may also want an ir receiver and ir remote control. If technic then there are more motor types, but starting with m motors is probably a safe bet. However i I would recommend starting with a set that is already motorised. The RC…

Needing a bit of quick advise from the train builders out there. I think I know the answer, but just want to confirm... I bought Emerald Night (on order from LEGO) and plan on motorizing it. I bought some of the PF bits at the same time. It was late at night, and I wanted to get in on the VIP deal, free shipping, holiday…

Welcome @Kurtis570 ! :) From the sounds of it, you've bought #8293 Motor Set, which includes #8881 AA battery box. Whilst you can use that battery box for trains, it is, as you say, more geared towards technic models, and won't really fit in most trains very well. What you ideally need is the following: - #8879 Speed…
