A better comparison for the garage is likely other recent $100 non-rehash city sets: #8404 #7633 #7642 All slow-moving sets in the 1.5x - 2x range. and all much more substantial feeling than the garage -

TLG is clearly breaking both the 10 cent per part rule as well as the $100 per large boxed set rule. Garage # 7642 retired a year ago was $99 and had more parts than the new City Garage does at $119. The new set is 13 cents a part, which seems to be the new baseline price, everything goes up from there.
