1. #853 Car Chassis 2. #42070 6x6 All Terrain Tow Truck 3.#41999 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition because I absolutely love power function, technic, and exclusivity all rolled into one set.

#851 Tractor got a re-jigged hitch mechanism partway through it's life to give it a more positive action. IIRC #853 got a beefed up steering mechanism as well. They both came with additional instruction sheets to correct the originals.

#853 - the first big Technic car from 1977. Later on, the #8860 sports car. Both great kits that I still have. Have to agree with @SirKevBags about 856 - that was a superb kit of parts you could make any construction vehicle with.

Thanks, I've got most of my old sets although I'm missing a number of instruction books. Some of my favorites are the predecessors to the Technique theme. I've got the original auto chasis #853 and go kart #948 plus some other Expert Builder sets.

Rebuilding all my super cars, just finished the last one : #8448 Super Street Sensation/Convertible build. While being now 20 years old, my favorite is still #8880. Bottom Right #8653 Enzo Ferrari is filling the void until I can get a #956 or #853 (PM me if you have one to spare ;-)

When I was a child my parents didn't have a lot of money and all we had a was Quality street tin with secondhand Lego in it. As there were very few pieces in the tin my sister and I would constantly fight over the wheels. I remember when I was 13 years old I got the Technic car set 853 new and my sister had some of the…

My dad bought me this garage when I was about 4 or 5: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=348-1 The first sets I bought myself would be the 600s in 1978. I was 10 & I remember begging my mum for an extra 10p in my pocket-money. Then I could afford one a week! It's only now that I realise what a great period this was in…

I've been buying lots of LEGO since 1999, but I never really had a 'dark age' before that, more a 'slightly overcast age' where I was still buying the odd set here and there. I've still got a lot of the LEGO from when I was a kid, except for the sets that my mother gave away to my nieces & nephews while I was away at…

Flagships do well, #8043 for example, but #8069 and #8070 have both done badly, still selling below RRP. #8109 is doing better at 1.5xRRP. Technic is very hit and miss, just like other themes, and the only way to make a good ROI is to buy cheap. Sports bikes like #8420 do well. #8051 was regularly available for £12 at…

#8865 was the set that got me back into Lego, which I bought myself at Christmas that year. Hard to believe it was way back in 1988 or 1989. I then bought #8880 on its release and eventually went back and picked up a second-hand #8860 and then #853. I don't have them built at the moment, but this is how I remember the…
