The monorail motor cover is from 4DBricks. It's the only non-Lego element anywhere. #6399 Airport Shuttle had a red motor cover that only appeared in red in that set and is prohibitively expensive and didn't match the color scheme I was going for anyway.

I have a hard time reconciling my favorite old sets with favorite new sets. I'll make a list for both then : ) Old: 1. 6887 Allied Avenger - I loved the octagonal cockpits for Blacktron II. If only they kept the original black and yellow color scheme and all black suits. Either way, loved this set as a kid. 2. 6081 King's…

Or just Bat Shuttle... except that could be an all black version of #6399 Airport Shuttle. Because, you know, Bruce Wayne is super rich and high tech; he wouldn't take a limo to the airport, he'd have his own private monorail!

The nostalgic bit isn't really there because when that set came out I was in high school and not really tuned in to LEGO a whole lot. I think girls and getting a car were probably occupying my mind more! LOL. As an adult collector and builder now, I appreciate all those 80's and 90's sets more and more all the time. Value…

It's a 9V motor that uses its own motor with a gear tooth: It definitely needs the gear to climb the inclined tracks! The old monorail patents are pretty neat, too-- they feature things like "45 degree" straights, ramp extenders, and automatic-switching cross-tracks, none of which ever got produced. DaveE
