Abbreviation and Acronym list - Builders edition

edited August 2020 in Building and Techniques
There are an increasing number of acronyms and abbreviations in use on the forums. We've pointed members at other on-line lists in the past, but it looks like we may be starting to get ahead of them & maybe it's time we started & maintained our own.

I'd like this to be a community effort to populate and maintain it; I'll start, but please feel free to post suggestions below - the staff will review, edit & add where appropriate.

Initially I'm thinking of two versions of the list, tailored to particular interests - one for collectors (in collecting) & one for builders (here) ... we'll see how it goes, but it may be better in the long term to merge them, but lets just see how it goes :-)

Slang Element Names

BURP - 'big ugly rock piece'
CHEESE / CHEESER - 1x1x2/3 slope
CHEESE GRATER - 1x2 slope with no studs & grill slots
DALEK - 1x1 brick with four studs on the outside
DOUBLE JUMPER - 2x2 plate with a single stud in the middle
DOT - 1x1 round plate
EARLING - aka the headlight
HEADLIGHT - aka the earling
JUMPER - 1x2 plate with a single stud in the middle
RORY - term for standard 2x4 brick (from rhyming slang with 'two-by-fourey')

Other Building Terms

BOLOCs - Built Out (of) Lots Of Colours
CRAPP - Crummy Ramp And Pit Plate
LDD - LEGO Digital Designer
LUG - LEGO Users Group
MOC - My Own Creation

Not sure if this would belong here but i was very grateful to @nonex for explaining today that NPS is Net Promotor Score. If you are pleased with your experience at a store fill one out and name the staff member if possible.

This is awesome. I love legos but have only recently joined this site and some of these terms confused me lol. For instance for awhile I was like, what the hell is TRU? Until I realized it was Toys R Us. :) So Thanks!

I've also seen POOP - Parts Out Of Parts in relation to large moulded pieces that could have been done easily with standard pieces (such as the wing piece in 3182 Airport set or the car seat from Pharaoh's Quest sets 7325/7326).
The other one missing from the list is SNIR - Studs Not In a Row. There's a great PDF available with various building techniques that cover SNIR and SNOT building techniques.

For someone who didn't already know, it's not obvious that these definitions are very helpful:

    EARLING - aka the headlight
    HEADLIGHT - aka the earling

    :-)

Maybe put some links to Bricklink for the slang element names.

I don't see NPU  which I interpret as "new part usage" but may mean "nice part usage"  which is when a part that has a specific use is used in an unconventional way.  Example: croissants as fascade decor or minifig fists as handlebars.

So, I feel like DOUBLE JUMPER would be easy to apply to the 1x3 jumper with two studs.
