so anyways , im looking to make some cool MOCs and i wanna buy bulk legos from Ebay...
i dont wanna buy per/piece....(400pcs. for 40$),i wanna get like $50 lbs for $XX...
What is a good going rate for bulk in lbs....i dont have alot of money, but i have alot of ideas.
5512 is the set number, for what it is worth...
I was wondering if any of you have a general algorithm per se for buying LEGO in bulk by the lb (like off of Craigslist). There is a lady selling 30 lbs worth, they are all jumbled in a big bin with no manuals. She said there is star wars, harry potter, city and dinosaurs. The picture isn't great quality so I can't tell what is in there. She was starting off at $250, now she is saying $200 and she just wants them gone.
I am asking because it is about a 45 minute drive, so I want to have an idea if it is even close to worth it before I pack up all three kids and drive out there. =)
Any thoughts? What would you pay for just general pieces for building inventory? I know it will be worth more if there are minifigures, which she says there are.
Thanks!
Take a look, it will help act as a guide for what people are paying.

This is taking into consideration the following:
1. The weight is almost never correct. A lot of people "guesstimate". Without fail, every single purchase has over-estimated their lot weight by anywhere from 5-10 lbs. So take that into consideration when setting your price.
2. There will be quite a few non-Lego pieces (ie Hot Wheels cars or Megabloks - booo) or really dirty/broken pieces that are beyond salvaging.
3. Minifigures do up the ante a bit but 50% of the time, they are chipped, bitten and incomplete. Unless they can show separate photos of all the minifigures, I tend not to count that in my asking price.
All told, after everything has been sifted and cleaned and tossed out, the actual cost is closer to $8-10 a pound for what we end up keeping and using.
That 30 lbs of Lego that woman is selling is probably closer to 25-27 lbs. So $200 is a bit too high. I would see if she's willing to part with it for $160 - especially given that you have to drive 45 minutes to pick it up.
Good luck!
Have been paying as low as $3 lb lately.
I know there's plenty of people out there with LEGO they just don't know what to do with, so my plan is to put up an offer where I pay by the kilo (that's about 2.2 pounds on the rough).
I just don't have any idea how much a fair price for either part would be.
Considering that I live in Denmark and we have taxes that surpasses most other countries, LEGO might be expensive.
A rough calculation suggests any amount in US$ + 25 percent (that's the consumer tax), so throw guesses in US$.
Looking at those prices above, I'll never get that low here in Denmark.. I did an estimate on my own, roughly based on used sets and weight.. Got to about $25/kilo (or about $11.30/pound).
Maybe I should just stick to importing bricks at a slow pace and avoid taxes and whatever might come..
40 kg (that's about 88.8 pounds) for about $690..
I'm about to call it a deal, but I still wanna try for less.. Even though the seller says there are some old Pirate and Star Wars set in there.
That being said, lots of Star Wars sets are full of normal bricks, so unless you know which sets, it may not mean much. It is the key rare bricks that matter, not the bulk of the bricks found in all sets.
Another thought... Sets seem to have much smaller parts than "brick boxes". From a value point of view, getting lots of brick box parts in a bulk lot would seem to be a poor deal, so if they are set type parts, I would think that is better.

I'll probably just build the Star Wars sets, the rest will just be sorted out into boxes.
The train has no interest, so I might just sell some of the parts from it.
The train is another matter though, I like the windshields and bricks in it, but the trails, motor and the other stuff I don't need or see any reason to work with, so I might sell those parts. I'm not sure on that part though, I have a daughter, she might find that train to be fun to play with.
