Wow, thats pretty darn good for gumtree, v impressive. Our local one is often well over RRP - think it's heavily stalked by several collectors too, never much worth having, it always goes within hours.

Just in the process of bottoming out deals for tower bridge, monorail and greengrocer, prob nothing to write home about but certainly not ripoff prices and very excited nonetheless!

I was in an old and unorganized bookstore two years ago and I spotted a 6040 Blacksmith Shop behind some books on a bookshelf. It was marked $11.95! When I decided to spend an hour or two looking around the place, I ended up finding another 6040, three 6823 Surface Transports (I think they were $4.95 each), and two 6826 Crater Crawlers (I think they were also $4.95 each).

I also saw a small police set (either 6681 or 6632?), but it was faded from being near a window so I didn't buy it - I wasn't really collecting yet .

My latest brag is as follows

    4531
    4532
    4559
    4552
    6036
    6709
    1752
    6555
    6090
    5580

All for £100. Need to go through it and check on parts etc and to see if electrics work. Plus got a load of random block in 2 other boxes. Well happy and glad i followed up on the guy, he was a bit elusive and took forever to pin down.

Shame i'll have to sell some of it.

Walked into a local toy retailer (smaller place that carries teacher supplies and party supplies along with "child hood development toys"). Sitting on their shelves were 2 7676 Lego star wars republic attack gunships. Retail price, but still half the prices of most online auctions. Needless to say I dug into the pocket and bought both. Now to decide to build both, one or sell both. /Sigh

Hit a yard sale in the next town over yesterday - they were having a city-wide yard sale day - and found one gem: 8019 Republic Attack Shuttle, new in sealed box (box was a little beat up) for $5!

Last week got myself the full compliment of Series 1 minifigures, in a retailer at regular prices!

I just found out in another thread that last summer I struck gold. Bought a bag of random LEGO at a garage sale, it contained a Jabba the Hutt. I had no idea that figure was worth as much as it is. I was just going through some of those bricks a few weeks ago and was sad to see so many that were discolored and covered in bite marks... I guess that Jabba makes up for it since he's worth many times what I paid for the whole bag.

Update to my last brag i also found all the parts for 6086 Black Knight's Castle. Just missing some little bits, well pleased. Plus got a few other little castle set i've yet to make up.

    Last best deals:
Target - $19.01 for Temple of Doom in January (didn't ring up at counter, cashier made up price)
K-Mart - $15 last week for both Weasely House + Hero factory Meltdown (they rang up two meltdowns mistakenly and didn't notice until I left)

I'm not sure I would be bragging about cheating a store...

^ I think fizzlemesexy is saying that he/she didn't notice the mistake until he/she left... although I have my doubts if that's truly the case since the low total would be a pretty good tipoff :P

$19 for Temple of Doom? How would you not notice that?
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,009
I found 3 Buzz Spaceships at Walmart for $12.99 each. Should be a nice future investment.

Also won an ebay auction that included:

    8970 Agents Robo Attack
    8968 Agents River Heist
    5969 SP3 Squidmans Escape
    5971 SP3 Gold Heist
    5982 SP3 Smash N Grab
7773 Aqua Raiders Tiger Shark Attack
    8191 Power Miners Lavatraz
    8958 Power Miners Granite Grinder
    2258 Ninjago Ninja Ambush
    2516 Ninja Training Outpost
    30062 Kingdoms Target Practice

Only $91 with free shipping for all those sets! The sets are complete with instructions. Retail value alone is well over $250, not to mention the resale value of some of those sets is extremely high, as many have been retired. I've been looking for the 8970 and 7773 for quite a while as well, so a great day for Lego hunting!

Small victory, but I found 3 Kingdom's Target Practice(#30062) polybags at a local Target while perusing the checkout lines on my way out. On sale too for $3.49 (normally $3.99).

These buggers are difficult to find. This brings my total up to 5. I picked up 2 around Christmas in San Diego from a Target that had a ton. If I knew they were going to be this scarce I would have grabbed more back then.

I happily found target practice recently as well and fittingly at Target. It may be one of my favorite pollies ever.....never seen the other Kingdoms polly...

I found a 7754 Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser for $160 SGD at a toy store about two weeks ago. After I built it, I spent hours spinning Admiral Ackbar in his chair and saying, "It's a trap!" :)

@Yellowcastle - Temple of Doom wasn't cheating a store. Walmart sold it to me at that price as the SKU # was not in their system. There have been times where a store has refused to sell me an item because of this but I was extremely lucky. The manager made the price on the spot - even asked the workers in the lego department what they thought was fair. I was going to try to pick it up regardless of what it cost. I understand that you want to think it's unfair, but I paid for it at the Manager's imputed price.

^ I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here.
  • Bluefox1966Bluefox1966 Member Posts: 360
@fizzlemesexy You go for it get it as cheap as possible, if the store makes an error it their look out. I would have knowingly walked out with 10 of these at that price. They buy huge amounts of lego and get it at a massive discounted price (they probably broke even anyway). ASDA recently had some set which were obviously marked wrong on the shelf but I doubt anyone here told them.
  • FizzlemesexyFizzlemesexy Member Posts: 123
@Bluefox1966 - If they had 10, I totally would have run back to the Lego section and grabbed them all too. It was the last in stock. I still kick myself for not picking up the Space Police Headquarters on clearance at the lego store. Went to the food court in the mall, came back and someone picked up the five that were left.

    Purchased 7779 and 7780 - 2 Batman, 1 Killer Croc, 1 Catwoman - for $35 at a toy consignment store (:
  • tk79tk79 Member Posts: 329
fizzlemesexy - congrats, I would have been happy to get the set at that price.

You don't buy a car (or anything for that matter) and tell the salesman "No no, good sir, that is great discount you're offering me on last year's model, but I know what MSRP is on this and I won't be buying it for a penny less!"
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
If a car salesman was willing to sell me a new car, even last years model, at over 80% under MSRP then yeah, I'd probably think they were either morons or disgruntled employees. Either way, I would have moral reservations taking advantage of them. That's a decision we would each have to make on our own, I guess.

In any case and IMO, it wouldn't be something to add to a brag thread. This would seem to me to be little different than buying a box of Minifigures for $2.99 total. And in similar fashion, I would likely never support a hypothetical thread like, "Target has mispriced the QAR in their system, hurry up and buy before they fix their mistake!". But as I said, it's simply my opinion.
  • wander099wander099 Member Posts: 114
^ I disagree. I've had stores make the mistake when they charge me more than what the price on the shelf was and it was a battle to get them to give me the correct price. I've had to fight tooth and nail with customer service in some stores to take back product that was clearly defective and give me my money back.

If they ring something up for less than the shelf price, that is their fault and not mine and I would not feel one iota of guilt of taking the item at that price. Now, it would be different if I tried to exploit their mistake by encouraging others to take advantage of the error or if I went back and bought a ton more of whatever it was just so I could make money.

But in this case, if a store cannot bother to keep their database of prices up to date with their stock or a cashier cannot figure out how to scan products at check out, there is nothing wrong with paying the price they charge. Nothing was done to cause the mistake or take undue advantage.

3222 Heli and Limo for £13 from Tesco. The woman had 2 in a crate, and just stuck them on the top shelf above the police boat. I'd kicked myself for not getting it before, now I'm glad I waited and saved £7.

a few months ago my local Walmart had Series 4 minifigures for .74 a piece... I score about 100 of them...about 10 each of Hazmat guy and Mad Scientist... I kept some, gave some to some friend's kids, sold a ton on ebay for 2.99-4.99 a piece...

Last week I got 7947-1: Prison Tower Rescue for only $12.50 at Target! I had been eyeing it at $35.00 and was about to breakdown and get it... When I scanned just to check the price $12.49 came up and I almost soiled my pants!

A couple, maybe three years ago, walmart had the 7094 kings castle siege as a black friday special for $50. I went early and searched the store and couldn't find one. I finally found it hidden in a different section of the store completely. Someone probably hid it there to come back later. So I bought it and it was awesome. Then about 3 weeks later I happened to be in the same store for something else and saw one sitting on the shelves! I scooped it up and it still rang at the black friday price. Apparently once walmart clearances something, the price doesn't go back up.

Also a couple weeks ago, I saw a 4996 beach house at walmart with a christmas sticker on it. It rang up for $25. Not a great price, but out of print set :-)

I bought that same King's Castel Siege for $100 a couple months ago. Considering the ebay prices for it, I thought it was a great deal until the post above. Nice find.

A couple of good, small finds. I picked up the Kingdoms Knight's Showdown MISB for $0.25, a Space Police Raid VPR MISB for $1.20, and about 6 lbs. of random LEGO with a couple of the older Star Wars ep II minifigs and mostly complete sets as well as a Int'l Space Station in it for $5 from the local thrift store (sets 4478 and 7143).

Last year, I went to a church rummage sale right at the end and they gave me a bag of LEGOs for FREE which contained three complete Exploriens sets and one old UFO set (which was missing its minifig). I was buying some Thomas stuff for my first boy and they asked if I wanted that too and just threw it on top.

Anyone find anything comparable at NoVA Targets?
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
@mackrel: did your Targets go down another level of clearance today? I called a couple near me and they didn't so I stopped calling around.

The mirror is from IKEA. That was a good bargain too if I remember.

How about an 8285 Technic tow truck (the huge one from a few years ago) for £55 including postage on eBay ? It was advertised just as a 'Lego Model' with an iffy photo. Stumbled across it by accident. Just got it this morning - looks complete too. :-)

Was kicking tired at a collectibe/toy shop in Chilliwack last year and picked up a perfectly good 6264 Forbidden Cove for just under $50 CAD. Maybe not the best score compared to some others here, but I've seen the set go for $60 at the bare minimum on Bricklink, and I'm very cheap.

Just got a big box of Lego today via the Big Brown Truck...turns out a friend of my wife had them surplus as her kids moved out. Looked through them a bit this evening and have identified parts from Islanders, City, Space Police 1, Classic Space, Pirates (including two ships), and a TON of minifigs. I guess it pays to have your wife talk about this hobby! lol
