So, now that the Pet Shop is officially released when will the Fire Brigade discontinue?

The real answer is "whenever they run out of stock", which is pretty much the answer for any set once they decide not to do any more production runs. They may hasten the demise of a set by discounting it, but I'd be surprised if they did that with the Fire Brigade.

@bluemoose.... you have just answered the question of the history of LEGO for the last 62 years.... they discontinue things... "when they run out of stock".

That goes for LEGO parts, LEGO sets and (even in the olden days)... LEGO boxes.

Here's a historic insight into the "LEGO boxes" scenario...

LEGO made basic sets 700/1, 700/2, 700/3, 700/3a, 700/4, 700/5 and 700/6 since the early 1950s. Then in 1957 TLG decided to retire the 700/2 size. However in late 1957 or early 1958, TLG discovered some 700/2 boxes... and what did they do... throw them away? No... they filled the 700/2 boxes (even with a newer box design on top)... and shipped them all to the Netherlands... where they were sold from 1958-59... but not sold anywhere else.

One thing everyone should know about LEGO history... they NEVER threw anything away!!
