Most expensive to date for me was the 8043 motorized excavator at about $180. Before that, it was the 10210 IF at $150.

There are some older sets I would really like to have, such as the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower and 8285 Tow Truck. But I will probably never have them, as I simply can't bring myself to pay the premium over what they cost new. I will definitely buy the Tower Bridge at some point soon, so that will tentatively be my most expensive set purchased.

    I´ve just spent 250€ (about 320$) for a sealed Chrome C-3PO! I know it´s not a set, but it beats most set-prices;)

£305 on Cafe Corner, money well spent.
The horrible, horrible SSD is a close second. Husband talked me into it/won it in a little competition with me yesterday. Sigh. God knows where it's gonna go!

Green Grocer - $410 (I think), thanks to sidersdd.

I was coming out of a five-year dark ages and found that a lovely series of these crazy things called "modulars" were now available and that I had missed the first couple. I fell in love with the aesthetic of the GG instantly and just had to have it. It was scary to find myself needing this set so relentlessly.

It was only the second time that I had ever paid above retail for a set.

I recently purchased Green Grocer and Cafe Corner. They were both used and 90% complete. I paid around $400 for each.

If my husband is reading this - make sure you read the rest of the thread to know that I didn't spend the most.

250 quid for DS (after VIP point reduction). Ordered it online from Lego UK instead of the German site and saved about 100 pounds in doing so (retails here at 420 euros). Don't really understand the massive difference in pricing.

@Savage_Steel: 305 GBP for Café Corner - you lucky lucky lady :-)

I think I did it last November. I won easily an auction for an open box, but still-sealed-in-bags Monorail Transport Base (#6991) for around $660. I can't recall the exact price without looking up my eBay account history (which I currently can't do right now), but definitely, this is the most I have spent on a single set. And well-worth it, I think, too.

$212 on Warehouse Deals for a Tower Bridge with a damaged box, but i negated that with a lot of points from my amazon visa. Out of pocket, my winner would probably be Pet Shop which was the first set I ever bought!

@legopants - yep, very lucky - was in the auction at the Brickish AGM, think everyone else had one already :)

The Black Pearl is the most expensive set I've purchased so far at $130CAN, most expensive purchase was just shy of $400CAN.

AU$400 on the Grand Carousel. AU$312 on the Tower Bridge, and AU$200 1:10 Enzo Ferrari.

    No Regrets.

Since Ive been catching up all year, I have been buying quantity. The most I spent on one set was $90 for a sealed Battle of Endor. I spend a lot, but never on one. But now Im about to start going for the big stuff. Still need to work up the gut to spend $200 on one lego. Thats tattoo money in my eyes.

Mine would have to be 7740, which cost just over £300 ($484). Even then the e-bay description stated the seller wasn't sure all the pieces were there! Just as well he did, otherwise the bidding price might have gone sky-high, and as it turns out the pieces were all there. I'd like to have bought more old Lego trains but they're just so prohibitively expensive.

Haha, I'm not the only one that uses phrases like "tat money". Almost as addictive as Lego.

You may well spend as much, if not more to get an opened set now. The new ones are over 2k and rising...

Nah, if i ever did get one, it wouldn't be anything crazy. Maybe just a stormtrooper mini-figure.

(cough, cough) $800 for a fan designed base for the Statue of Liberty #3450. Then today $375 each for Market Street and Cafe Corner. And if my hubby reads this I'll just hand him the spreadsheet of all he's bought.

That's definitely 10030 ISD for me. I got it as a second hand MISB for €600 two years ago.
