Only just now noticed the 2 punched studs on either side of the rear pit, & the 1.5-stud wide chip at the foot of the ramp. 😖   Ah, well. Beggars can't be choosers.

So awesome! I can only hope to score a lot like this some day!

    My journal Brick List: https://brickset.com/sets/list-74781
A short video of my work in progress: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SL_Dy6jmwiY
Fun to see how you're documenting it.  Fun/smart idea. You (we) will enjoy looking back at that one day down the road.  My rough estimate so far looking strictly at the used value listed on Brickset is around $3300.  What a haul.  All's I can say is WOW!

@Huw did a great job on the brick list feature, it is under utilized for sure. I will continue to update the brick list as I make progress. The only limit to using that feature to track is that it can not account for multiples.

As for the value; the castle stuff is going to be around $3,500 as there are sets not entered yet. I will keep 2/3 of that as medieval is my passion. The rest of the lot I will most likely sell off. I am surprised by the value of some of the Star Wars sets. I have ignored that theme since 2018. There are three Commander Cody figs!

Wow that's a great score only on the Figs even! Do they come with White Rangefinders? ;)

A fourth update on the one that got away, then returned. I have completed most of the classic castle sets. Now I have moved on to the LotR sets.

All the sets in the back (94749471 x2, 94739470) are complete. The 8 figs in the middle appear to be alone with the sets (94729476) not in this lot.

A fifth update on the $1,500 lot. Pirates of the Caribbean:

I am starting to get to the bottom of the easy to assemble sets. The Pirates of the Caribbean sets where all 50% or more disassembled. I had to pull a few parts and figs from my collection.

I have currently parted out $1,976.54 in MSRP, $5,401 in current value. I have listed $3,500 on bricklink and sold $400 (7 sets) so far.

    On to the Star Wars...

I've been doing a lot of deyellowing over the last 12 months. It works well, and to an extent it can be done with just heat without the UV light. I'd built a small box with UV strip lights that I leave on the radiator, but parts that are covered by other parts and didn't have UV light will still deyellow.

The main tip I have is when you're done, *really* rinse them off. I haven't found my ideal system yet, but I'm currently going for a big rinse, a soak, then another big rinse before individually checking how deyellowed they are and drying them off with a towel. If the bleach evaporates from the surface it leaves lighter patches, like the whitish line he showed that developed on the partially submerged parts.

Tonight I drove across town to buy a Mindstorms EV3 kit, arrived and it was actually two #45544 core kits and two #45560 expansion sets, plus two extra motors and some random FLL challenge parts. All for $100.

Missing one charger and some cheap parts, but all of the EV3 components and rechargeable batteries work.

The day before yesterday I made a quick stop at a thrift store while I had to wait for my daughter, unfortunately the toy section was bereft of anything interesting so I was on my way out thinking this was a complete waste of time just as right next to the cash register out of the corner of my eye I spot this big Lego box... #6285 Black Seas Barracuda! Unfortunately, €100 so definitely on the less thrifty side of things but still quite tempting, if only I could be certain this was complete as inside was just a big bag of pieces (& sails).
Now, should I go back and ask for a refund as it wasn't complete? :-D
€100 is an absolute bargain any day of the week, 100% complete or not!

@Switchfoot55 check it out, I just picked up a treasure trove for $200. Haven’t sorted it yet, but there is clearly a modular Palace Cinema, some vintage crater plates, and a big variety of other sets.

There are instructions for Voltron, I’m crossing my fingers that it’s here, and instructions and stickers for the Speed Champions Jaguar pair which is on my wish list.
A SOLID haul to be sure! Keep us updated what you find hidden in the depths of those bins!

I bought a gallon bag of miscellaneous Lego yesterday at an antique mall because it had one of the large dark grey cockpit bottom pieces from Rock Raiders in it. I have a couple of the brown roll cage parts, a chrome drill, and the large fender thingy with yellow and black stripes, so now I need to MOC a Rock Raiders... something. Maybe a helicopter with the drill? How impractical (therefore awesome!) would that be?
I didn't see it until I starting sorting through the bag (some clone-brand parts), but I found this guy:

@KeithB it looks like you have #1682 Space Shuttle Launch-based on the grey external fuel tank.
Edit: I see the instruction manual behind the baseplates!

Yes, good eye!  There were instructions for only three space sets, all later ones, and that's one of them.  Only missing a gray 2x3 slope piece, so no big deal.  Everything else is there and all decals in good shape and in the right place.  Surprised the astronaut minifig is not worth more, but I guess it's because it's the decal that makes it unique?  This shuttle was partially assembled, and at first I thought the minifig was missing.  But when I disassembled the shuttle for cleaning, there he was in the cockpit!  :)

Another "great find" in the bag o' random Lego I bought a week ago: everything in the bag was at least a construction toy part! There were a few Tyco and Mega blocks, and a few K'nex pieces, but no random toys or garbage. Fairly clean, too, but I washed all the Lego just to be sure.

Now that I am at the point of finding missing parts, what is the best way to go about this?  Seems very inefficient and costly to find every part on Bricklink from different sellers.  Are there sellers on Bricklink (or other sites) that specialize in Classic Space parts?  If so, how do I find them?  Is e-bay a better route?  Ideally, I'd find all the parts I need from one seller, but I'd be happy with two or three.  Thanks for any advice people can give!

You can create a Wanted List out of all the parts you need. You can then, from that list, try "Buy all" and Bricklink will show you the best options (will try to find a seller that has all the pieces on the list, or most of them, etc.).

Thanks, I did not know about that feature!  I have been keeping a list of parts needed on Bricklink, so I'll give that a try.

#1682 Space Shuttle Launch built.  I seem to be missing the red string wheel winch, otherwise complete.

This is correct. I would take it a step further and reccomend you create a list for each set you are piecing together. Then once the pieces arrives you can reverence the list and locate the set that it goes with, and remove the item off the list. I currently have 30 list that represent 30 sets that are missing one or more pieces:

Nice find! This is the only City/Town space set I am missing, but finding it outside the US seems to be a pain in the behind, so I will just enjoy these photos!

This will be my last update on the one that got away, then returned. I have parted out 133 sets (103 unique) with street value of $10,027.

I enjoy this aspect of the hobby more than buying the latest and greatest set. It is relaxing and rewarding pulling out well over 100 sets from a pile of chaos. I am now monitoring facebook marketplace and garage sales for my next lot.
Honestly, this is kinda the sweet spot in the hobby for me as well.  I just can't afford to invest in that kind of haul.  Mine have been much smaller.  It's how I've managed to get many of my sets of wanted but either can't afford or just don't want to pay the new (or used prices) for said sets.  But I guess part of the challenge for m is I just don't have the time (or carve out the time) to truly piece it all together and complete the project.  I've had way to many hauls I've started, but never finished.  I still have a lot of great sets berried in parts from hauls that I really want to piece together as I'd not buy them at secondary market prices.  Then there's the time my wife decided to "reorganize" almost my entire collection.  *sigh* Story for another day.

In the end, a great find.  I found it very interesting to follow along and marvel at your attention to detail, tracking, charts etc.  Looking forward to seeing what your next great haul will be.  :-)

@FollowsClosely was this the collection of another "collector" or was this one family's collection of Lego bought over the years for their kids?  If it's the latter, those were some very lucky kids!

I was told that this lot came from a storage locker of a deceased man, and that it was not accesssed for many many years. So I would guess that it was adult owned. Some of the old Castle sets showed some play, but all oc the post 2010 stuff was in like new condition.

Spotted a small bag of what appeared to be some Lego 12V track in the toy section of a local thrift store, it didn't look all that special until I got close enough to see what it really was: a complete #7860 Remote Controlled Signal! Checking the price sticker it only was €2.50, I'm pretty sure I broke some law of relativity snapping that up! Tested at home and it all still works perfectly :-D

No law against getting good used Lego cheap, especially a 12V set.
