I learned my lesson. Last time I ever buy a used set online with the words "sold as is" and "no returns" :)

Lol, what were you expecting with the words "sold as is"? :P
What can I say, I'm an optimist :)

    ^^ Great find!

Well, turns out this wasn't the best of deals. I was taking an inventory of the pieces yesterday and it looks like around 100 of the pieces are either a different color (old gray instead of bluish gray), just plain wrong (large hose instead of small) or toasted (white pieces have sun tans).
I learned this lesson today as well. My wife found the Troll's Mountain Fortress at a Rummage Sale. The seller claimed it was 'missing a few pieces.' My wife called me, and I asked her to inquire about what that meant. The seller said something about, 'if it was missing anything major he would have said that.'

So after inventorying, more than 35% of the pieces are missing, some substituted with completely different colors (white instead of dark bley for example). Also missing were half the minifigs and the horse.

I thought I was going to be able to post about a great find, but instead it turned out to be a great disappointment. I should have trusted my gut... which told me that anything left a day into the rummage sale was probably left for a reason. I suspect that other collectors passed after doing a quick count of the minifigs visible in the ziplock bags in which the set was stored (inside the box, no less! Who keeps the box but loses 1/3 of the pieces??).

^ the person who keeps the box and loses prices likely bought it for next to nothing at a garage sale or flea market is my guess.

I just grabbed the following from a Goodwill store for $7 (the pile at left from a bucket, and an incomplete Minotaurus set on the right). Not a ridiculously awesome find, but I thought it was a good deal:

^nice! Lego games at my local goodwill never has any bricks, plates, or baseplates.

Not an amazing find, but TRU by me had Star Wars advent calendars 50% off and I had a 5 dollar coupon, well worth the $16 out the door for it.
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
I got 3 lots at goodwill, one HP, one ST and one odd/ends one. So far, I have pieced together Forbidden Forest, Quidditch Match and Dumbledore' s Office. Haven't even looked at the other 2 lots yet. But I do see parts for 7660, 20010, 20006 & 8015...we'll see if pieces are all there

Just snagged a Death Star II complete off ebay for $275 shipped. Thought that was outstanding.

Oh and I got these guys in the mail the other day:

^ What did you say to Lego, so they would send them to you? I am interested in getting one.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Nice @scratchdesk! I picked up 5 of the ARF troopers myself:

    Along the lines of...
I saw these on the website and they appear to be a promotional item from last month with a current price tag of $9.99. They first tried to locate them on the site and couldn't find them using a search. Then they asked if I was on lego's website, I told them yes and that I could send a link or spell it out. She took a minute then said she found them. For reference the item number is 4649858 "ARF Shadow Trooper"

Cool. Maybe I'll try in the morning.

The one that got away ... several days ago saw a 4957(?) Ferris Wheel, used, listed on eBay. Listed at $0.99, no bids. Thought I hit "Watch List," but somehow missed the bid end. Turned out it didn't sell, was immediately relisted, and last I saw was bid up to at least $60. Oops.
  • jadeirenejadeirene Member Posts: 474
^ You didn't miss out on that. The seller ended the listing early.

Took a chance on a large bin of lego listed on our local board. The pics were hard to decipher however i had confirmation that it was all LEGO. he estimated it to be around 12KG. Total was $150.00

I bought it and took it home. It felt heavy so i threw it on the scales.. 42lbs!!!! It also came with about 25 manuals as well..

So far, i have been able to piece together and build:

    8007 - C3PO technic
8458 - Silver Champion (I just finished this set and it is HUGE!!!)

there is a ton of other sets, about 100 minifigs, about 80 or so track pieces and some really cool base plates.

Part of the enjoyment of lego for me is buying these large bulk lots.. Finding needles in the haystacks!!!!

@scratchdesk : I tried calling to see if I could buy any Shadow Arf troopers, the operator said she couldn't sell them to me right now. She thinks they will be available on May the 4th weekend.
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
    ^interesting... Guess I got lucky.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
Or maybe I got an operator that isn't as helpful.

Picked up a 10221 SSD for $327 including shipping (and no tax) from Amazon's Warehouse Deals.

Just arrived, the set is like new, one end of the box seals were cut, but the 4 boxes inside were still Lego sealed, so really it is a brand new set for almost 20% off.

Not the best deal in the world, but I'm happy with it. :)

    @LegoFanTexas,

Where on the website do I find Amazon's Warehouse Deals? Just curious to see what I'm missing out on here.
  • starfailurestarfailure Member Posts: 138
(I don't see anything to get real excited about, though...)
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
They just look like sets people are reselling to make a profit.

^ Yeah, nothing to scream about. Thanks anyway guys.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
You have to be very fast... many people watch those and snatch them the second they come on the market...

Just picked up 7641 - City Corner - for $82 in like new condition. That set probably will come with some edge rubbing and minor wear, but still be factory sealed.

$82 delivered for that set, today, is not a bad price. :)

I got City Corner for $30 during the Christmas season. I'm kicking myself for not getting more.
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
My mother-in-law came across the City Corner somewhere (TJ Maxx or Marshall's, I'm thinking) around Christmas and bought it for me as a gift. I was very lucky that she did -- I had meant to pick it up and forgot about it and thought I had missed my chance. I also love that I have trained my in-laws to buy me LEGO!

Yea, I remember that, I only bought two of them back then, nuts, huh? :)

But $82 today is a fair price, given the market... Amazing, isn't it?

I sold both of those that I bought, and now rather wish I had the set, so... now I do. :)

Update: 8088 - ARC-170 is on sale at Amazon... 23% off with only 645 left in stock.

Anyone want to bet this is going out this summer along with Clone Turbo Tank?

in an out of the way store
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ what is the point of posting a pic without any details? Did you buy them for $100 a box? $5? From "out of the way"???

You're not the first to make such a post but it always makes me scratch my head :P
  • bahnstormerbahnstormer Member Posts: 180

Just picked up a zip-lock bag of 65 duplo blocks for $2 from a second hand store that rarely has legos. There was a few printed bricks and one train car in the lot. This was my first duplo purchase.

Let's see, I recently got 8113 Assault Tiger and 8106 Aero Booster reasonably cheap and new. Great parts! Generally, I feel that Exo-Force is/was underappreciated.

I also found some Series 4 Minifigures recently and could bring my collection closer to completion: Mad Scientist (in Oxford), Musketeer and female Surfer (in India!). Felt sooo lucky... then last Sunday I found that The Entertainer in Westfields Shepherd's Bush still has Series 4 by the truckloads.

I find boot sales a bit of a waste of time nowadays. People know the value of most stuff now what with the internet. Before someone would throw it all in a black bag and charge £5-10. Now they research everything on ebay the night before and charge accordingly. Very difficult to find a deal now.
