Oh, the memories or LEGO being $500+ million in debt and perhaps even more over-leveraged than that... with the hope of the cross-over television and modular action figure line that BOMBED on an unprecedented level.

So... whatcha want for that poster?

Was in Teams meeting with one our account managers and some customers. Had my background blured as I was in the LEGO room working. After we'd finished my colleague hopped back on what I thought was a de-brief call, that was just him asking "unblur your screen, I can make a few of the sets behind and I want to see the rest!" I think they might be a forum member judging by the photo they sent of a loft full of sets!
Or maybe it's your stalking secret santa! 😂

Mos Eisley will likely retire first… I’d go with that (but all 3 are on my wantlist too, so I can’t speak for which one is a better build)

Of course they did! I bought #10236 Ewok Village about a month before it went 20% off before retiring. On the other hand, at least I got it before it retired.

My Lego status today? Idiot. When #10497 Galaxy Explorer came out, I wondered how many pieces I would need from my collection to build both of the alternate ships, 924 and 918, from a single 10497. Started gathering the parts, with recolors for anything that doesn't show, and realized I would need parts from a lot of my sets: especially grey double cheese slopes. Then I got my third #10497 for $75 at Walmart. Then I looked at all the leftovers from 924 and 918, and wondered if I could build a second 928... Made a list, same issue: a few parts from a lot of sets... Finally realized that it's exactly the same problem: trying to build 928, 924, and 918 from just two #10497. Sigh...

I missed out on Ewok Village.  I was just coming out of my last dark age & didn’t want to spend that much money on one set so I went with the Winter Village set that year.

It has been a few weeks since I bought a bulk lot or partial set to rescue, and I'm legitimately going through withdrawal. At the same time, I have a shoebox of small parts that need to be sorted, and I just don't feel like doing it.

On a positive, I'm thoroughly enjoying building the Home Alone house one bag per day. Today looks like it will be Kevin and the Christmas tree.

@WesterBricks, I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way with bulk lots. Honestly, when you get on a streak of good purchases, it can get addicting. The rush of finding those hidden treasures (and I don't just mean the cat turds) is exciting. Best of luck on your bulk hunts!

    pxchris,

So after about 30 minutes with the book, paging through it and reading only the introduction, I have the following comments:

    1) The book is beautiful, well bound, very colorful and very LEGO in it's color pallet.
    2) The cover is cloth over board and after laying a classic red 2x4 LEGO brick on the cover, I see that they have matched the red LEGO brick extremely well to the cover textile.
    3) Photos (color and black and white) and graphics are all very well reproduced. 1st class.
    4) The author writes very well. The introduction is good with a hook.
    5) Text is on the small side. I can just read it without my reading glasses, but won't.
    6) I think it will be worth the many hours I'll spend with the book in the coming months.

I would expect nothing less from a book commissioned by LEGO House.

Here are some pics. Sorry about the bit of glare on the last two.

    Jim

I think this was intended to be a one off production, but maybe they will change their minds. It was worth the 2-year wait.

A day without Excel is a lost day :-). Here is one of my dozens of LEGO spreadsheets where I keep track of sub collections, in this case the Western theme.

^ I'm very glad that I am among fellow Excel fanatics!

I, of course, use Brickset extensively for my collection... but I too have numerous spreadsheets (in my case, I actually keep them in Google Sheets for easy access from anywhere anytime) to track and document parts of my collection. Like @Brickfan50 I do it often by specific theme, here's an example:

I also have more graphical sheets for things like minifigures and such.
It's good to know that we nerd out in similar ways... be it LEGO, or fascination with spreadsheets!

    Ooooohhh...!

    Excited, excited!
Just got an email update on The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks book, they just released the eBook, and, it has color graphics/photos!!
Super excited about this. Still wishing I'd gone for the hardcover, but this certainly makes me a little happier about the eBook.
I'll be looking forward to digging into this book soon. I'm currently about 40% through The LEGO Story book which has been an absolutely fabulous read! I'm learning so much about the early history of the company that I had no idea about, and I felt like I was pretty knowledgeable about LEGO history.

    Well... I did it.
As of today, I've officially completed my collection of the entire Western theme!

This has been such a fun theme to collect. And it all came together fairly quickly too, which was nice (especially after the long journey collecting the Pirates theme). These sets are really great across the board, and I personally don't feel there is a dud in the entire batch.
Displaying them on this IKEA Billy bookcase is less than ideal, but it achieves the purpose for now. Sometime soon I'll figure out some space to lay all the sets out properly and take some better photos of them.
I always thought it needed a train....My LEGO status: reading Genesis and placing track. Now waiting for the Technic bricks to ship from USA, the white 16x16s from Demark. Lord willing, soon!

    Agreed completely!

Did you know, that there is actually an image out there of some unreleased prototype sets for the theme... including a couple of western style trains! I wish that at least one of these had made it to production.

For those who haven't seen this before... also take note of the buffalo piece!

The baseplates with wagon wheel ruts and parts of a river are way cool!
They really, really are! It's a shame we only got the one "curved road" plate with the rutted path pattern, I wish that we'd gotten a straight section as well.
Same goes for the river plate. Both this tan river plate design and the green one from the Islanders sub-theme could have really, really used some straight sections for expansion!

Fantastic collect, pxchris! Those last prototype photos are interesting. The buffalo is pretty fantastic! I'm sure it would be selling for $50 each if they released them. I also really like the cacti too!

  • Lo1sJessLo1sJess Member Posts: 668
Like the cacti and the buffalo wish we had both!  @pxchris is there enough in the pics to MOC a train?  There was a train, I think, in the Lone Ranger theme, those instructions combined with the pics might work for MOCing.
