The Lone Ranger never got very popular, just like Scooby-Doo. Think of #75904 Mystery Mansion, a marvellous set in my opinion!
”Three oughta do it.”
This is an excerpt from his 2021 memoir book The Storyteller which I just finished reading:
:)
@bookmum it's a great film! If you check the photos tab on the rebrickable page you can see a photo of mine which I uploaded last year 👍 well worth checking if you have the parts to build it, if you don't start ordering!! 😂
I have suggested getting an actual venus flytrap plant. I'm not good with plants. Cacti doesn't even survive with me so it could end up very badly.....
Its brilliant, Mrs Speedy enjoyed the film so much and was super keen to build Audrey, as you can probably see, its now sitting outside the florist from Assembly Square, wouldn't fit in the window to attract the customers!
Also lego status: trying to plan out my WV setup for this year. I have a new table for it, so I can do more than a 30" x 40" display if I want. It's a gateleg table that I can use as either 30x45-ish or 30x60. Don't know that I'll need the full table this year, but it's an option if I want!
LEGO status: this bad boy took pride of place near the top of the tree (mainly cos the wife and kids are too small to reach that high!)
and before anyone comments on the fact it’s an artificial tree, we can’t have a real tree due to the dog…
I want to change it to the Dark Azure... but I can't find that container!
...and I just found it! Thinking about what all was in it, I remember I had brought some extra clone troopers also. They're on top of the other parts in the little box, so I've looked at the box many times in the last few weeks, and not remembered what else was in there.
So posting about the problem has solved it! Thanks, Brickset Forum! 😁
Back in 2019, I shared in this thread that I had submitted my application to LEGO's design internship program. In December 2019 I was welcomed to participate in an interview. I mentioned how much I loved building. I shared all the fond memories of growing up building alongside my dad, and how much I wanted to join the team to create sets so other family and friends could build and create sets that would bring them all closer. I was happy with how the interview went and would spend the next 3 months excitedly waiting to hear the results.
In March 2020, I reached out to the recruitment team to see if there were any updates. They followed up with an incredibly kind email. They mentioned, "You are one of two candidates that I was going to offer an internship within one of our design teams (would most likely have been Creator). You have so much talent and passion for LEGO and we would be excited to welcome you as an intern and give you the opportunity to live the life as a professional LEGO Designer. So, I’m so sorry for this. If it is possible that you can do an internship Spring 2021 and still get credit from your school, I would really like to look into this opportunity." This was back when everyone thought the pandemic would blow over in a few weeks.
Unfortunately, the pandemic would continue. I would continue to reach out, but LEGO would keep the internship limited to danish citizens. Eventually, they would open it up to citizens of the EU, and now to the world. Unfortunately, one of the qualifications for the internship is that you must be a current student. In 2019-2020 I was a junior and ultimately graduated in 2021. I was able to get a great scholarship so I continued my education by getting my MBA. I continued to reach out about the internship, but nothing ultimately came of it.
Then the worst of it all arrived. My dad passed away last year. Everything has changed since then. There's not much I want to say about this. We spent so much time building together. He gave me so much support when it came to building and applying to this opportunity. He was really rooting for me.
Everything felt like it was coming together. It just all kinda fell apart. In that March of 2020, it felt like I hit my mark. Building is now a combination of something relaxing, but also makes me sad. It makes me wonder what could have been. I was holding out hope for 2 years that this would work itself out. I hold no anger or frustration with LEGO, the recruitment team was incredibly kind whenever they responded. I guess at the end of the day, it just was not meant to be.
However, there's some good in this story too. I spent the pandemic back at home. I was able to spend much more time with my dad including time where we continued to build more sets together. I am glad that I had that time with him. Beyond that, it is cool to have seen how many people in the pandemic rediscovered LEGO. That includes reconnecting with some old friends who previously stopped building and now got back into making mocs. Furthermore, even though Billund didn't work out, I was still able to be connected with some designers and chat about what it is like to be at LEGO. And of course, it's always fun to see what's going on in this forum. As an aside, the Secret Santa was a great pick-me-up last year.
I wanted to post some of these updates over the past few years. I wanted to post some good news. But here we are. Just a bit of a bummer and was looking for an outlet with some people who might understand where I am coming from. I'll try again in the future to see if there is a future in Denmark, but for now, it is just taking a step back and figuring out what makes sense for my next steps.
I always spend the vip points I get on a purchase on the next consecutive purchase, they never amount to more than a few tenners.
Of course one can do whatever they want, as it's their own money, but it's not really efficient imho.
I tend to keep my points for no more than a year, after which I empty the bank on the yearly modular. This coming one will be no exception. I do wish I had this amount of points to spend though...
