Dare I say, Walmart?

It does appear to vary by store--I was able to have 2 shipped home at $75 each from an area store. Try zip code 22180 for a store that has them at $75 shipped (and free shipping!).

Well, my pickup order for GE apparently isn’t available so Wallyworld substituted for #75316

Looks like I won’t be getting this deal:(

It's still a blue and gray spaceship, the picker put at least a little consideration into the substitution.

Sorry we're out of Galaxy Explorer, here are 25 DOTS packs.

That's why I always check the "do not substitute" option when placing a pickup order for LEGO at Walmart.

LOL, what a difference a day makes, I checked Walmart.com for the #10497 on a lark and it showed as $75 and let me check out and have them delivered at $75 as well.

I read you have to change your local store that has it priced for $75 whether they technically have it in stock or not.  Then, it will let you order for shipping for the $75 price.

So does anyone have a list of what parts are needed to build the smallest ship after building the middle one from one kit?

Exact same situation here! Odd. Great pickup for the price + Honey Cashback!

It's all hit and miss...or maybe some deep, dark secret marketing plan for WM....assuming they have plans, strategies, and ideas.  I tried the first day and it was $100 for me everywhere or shipped...with only 1 store having it in stock.  Then yesterday, it was $75 shipped.  It seems WM is a complete mess right now with in-store scanners showing random, above retail prices and Brickseek having problems with getting prices and inventory now too.

Hit and miss is right.  I tried off and on all day yesterday and got nowhere.  Woke up early this morning and it worked.  Even the fish tanks were available at rollback prices.   So I got a couple of those and the Galaxy Explorer.
What seems off to me is that they’re all being delivered separately.   Just got my first fish tank delivered by a guy from his own personal car wrapped in a Walmart grocery bag.  It had to be local, why make me jump through hoops and change locations just to get the discount?
Oh well, at least I finally got the fish tanks at a decent price (and the Galaxy Explorer was a very nice surprise).

Ok, so I got the sets:
Good news: It was quick (I mean in about 24 hours!).
Bad news: They came 'as is', no shipping box (not even a shipping 'bag').
Medium news: While there are a few creases in the box, the shipping label was something that would easily peel off without damaging the box, and the boxes where in decent shape, one box was in decent shape the other was a bit more creased..

^ Ugh.  Spending $75 and they still can't put it in a box!?  Where was it shipped from?  My tracking says mine left Covington, LA....to Iowa via FedEx.
  • OldTownBricksOldTownBricks Member Posts: 115
Mine had definite shelf wear, but were in a box and shipped from NY to VA.
  • datsunrobbiedatsunrobbie Member Posts: 1,818
I got one #10497, shipped overnight via FedEx from PA to CT, in a shipping box that could have held 3 of the set and loaded up with bubble wrap. Arrived undamaged.

I received mine today as well...in a box not quite big enough to fix the set...kinda.  It went corner to corner to squeeze in with a piece of paper packing material include....now sure why....I had to pry the box out of the Walmart box(almost had to cut the outer box to get the Lego box out)....and still arrived like it was sat on and a few creases and the top of the #10497 must have had some sort of sticker on it and was peeled off because there the outer coloring gone and now just brown cardboard.  Shipped from Louisiana to Iowa.

So the lesson here is not to order collectible LEGO shipped from Walmart. Check!

Well its all relative. If you care about the LEGO box itself, sure Walmart is likely going to beat up the box a bit, but if you are just looking for the set, it shouldn't matter (and you are getting a set at a discount).

I received #10497 on Saturday. The box it was shipped in was large enough with several air-filled bags to protect it. However, one corner of the box was dinged a bit. No big deal, but be warned if you're wanting a perfect box, you may not get one.

More accurately, if you want to get LEGO in a pristine box, don't have it shipped.

Was about to say that the 10497 was back in stock, but either they are gone again or Walmart's site is messing with me.

Not in stock at Lego.com but Walmart has plenty at the old price in my store!!

According to Brickseek(if that works again) there were none available anywhere at Walmarts(unless I drove 75miles one-way) or Targets.  I happened to be taking my niece into the local Target today and they had 3 on the shelf at $169.99....but the Target App scanned at $199.99.  This store still has all the old prices before the LEGO markups.

I also saw 2 at a Target over the weekend (1 with the side flap open...) and the store scanners showed them as $199.99.  Couldn't find a shelf tag for it but if it had one that showed $169.99, I would've tried getting the price adjusted at the register.

#10497 is one of those sets that I will likely always wish I had bought. Especially when it's retired and selling on the aftermarket for $400. It is just another casualty of an ever narrowing LEGO focus.

I am genuinely glad to see so many people have been able to take advantage of this Walmart sale and add one (or seven) to their collections!

Last week...according to Brickseek and Walmart, I didn't have any within 65 miles of my location.  I ran into a local WM to check on some spring clearance....and there were 2 #10497 on the shelf.  So the only 2 WM to get them within 60mile radius (8 WM) were the 2 smallest ones, that discount Lego the fastest because of shelf space.

I submitted my Walmart receipt for the castle and got an e-mail back on August 24th which said, "Submission Received" and "We will be in touch within 24 hours."
    Got nothing after that.

I guess I'm not getting the little castle GWP, huh?

Two Walmarts around me that were sold out of #10497 before recently put up a special display of them in the main aisle. They were still marked at $75. If you missed them before might be worth checking again.

^ Same here.  All my local WM seem to have at least 2 on the shelves for $75.

I should probably set aside $100 or so specifically in case I ever spot #10497 clearanced at $50 or less- IMO, the set is a great deal at RRP, so half off or better would be fantastic.
  • karritkarrit Member Posts: 976
For anyone who has Rakuten they are currently offering 10% off toys and some other categories at Walmart so #10497 would end up costing one $67.50 in the end if you place an online order.

I'm really tempted but I've bought so much lately I'm trying to restrain myself.  Just ordered the two advent calendars I know Costco won't be getting in from Walmart.  They expect the big three Calendars to arrive tomorrow at my local Costco.  Placed two orders with Target in the last two days as well as picked up The Shrieking Shack from them at a nice discount using accumulated Target Circle rewards.  I still need to get the Castle & am toying with grabbing the Cantina from Lego with double points and the 15% Rakuten cash back.  And I need a second copy of the Christmas Tree.

A Walmart in Missouri has them marked down to $50. My son saw my set and was wishing he got it. Now he has one coming this Christmas!

I checked the Shakopee and Burnsville stores today for #10497. They both had a full cardboard display in the middle of a main aisle, and both were $75. I was really hoping for $50.

^^ Especially against a dedicated cardboard display FULL of them - it's like a Venus Flytrap or a Siren song for Classic Spacers.  Abandon all hope.

I'm still resisting going for a second one.  Been to 4 different Walmarts this week but only saw the display in one and it was half empty.  Trying to wait for Black Friday deals.   I'm hoping they offer #11021 for a lower price.

Anyone know what the process of Walmarts clearances are now....including Brickseek.  Brickseek has essentially become useless...everything is "unknown"....unless there's a new Brickseek+ or the Walmart + that shows actually(relatively close) store stock and prices.  I still have Walmart clearance Lego sets on shelves still sitting at 30% off clearance.  It's been 2 plus months since it was first marked down and no longer on Walmart.com.  I keep waiting for prices to further drop...but they haven't.  And the only way to check is drive to the store occasionally.
