- arms fall off too easily.
- hands are too loose, so light saber won't stay vertical
- clock has no chance of attaching and staying put as relies on the clutch power of a 1x2 plate.
So really only a careful display piece unless some modification or kraggle is used!
I got through bag 3 and all the 1x1 plates/tiles. I spent entirely too long making sure every one of them was lined up and straight. I figure I don't have a lot to build right now, so might as well enjoy every step.
Should finish it up tonight!

I haven't got all the Speed Champions, but I think that this car must be peak Speed Champions so far?
The comparison with the larger Creator Expert model is a bit controversial, from what I hear. But my opinion is that the Creator Expert model from 2018 is quite good also when it comes to replicating the shape of the car, and then there are all the features on top of this. As display models, I think both DB5's are good, even if the larger one is often criticized for being too square.
Sometimes I work on a build to get the packaging in the next garbage/recycling pickup but getting to the last stage took away that motivation
The only sets in recent years that did capture the nostalgia of classic space for me were the two sets from Lego Movie 2, #70821 Emmet and Benny’s ‘Build and Fix’ Workshop! and #70841 Benny’s Space Squad. Both contained ships and/or vehicles that were, to me, pure classic space! The space squad after all did contain my beloved yellow and white classic spacemen and a robot, not to mention my favourite of all my childhoods space tools - the metal detector!
Maybe I’m viewing things through rose tinted lenses but I’ve been wrestling with this feeling all night and finally come to the conclusion that #10497 is a great set, one of my favourite space ships in recent years, just it’s not classic space - but perhaps that’s not such a bad thing? If they’d released an exact replica of #928 I think I’d probably have felt let down that they didn’t update its build techniques like they did with #70816!
So here it is, in all it’s glory…
Unfortunately my problems didn't end there. There are a number of missing pieces which is not the end of the world as replacements can be sourced, but most of the parts have some heavy discoloration which wasn't visible in the listing, which showed the parts bagged. The medium stone grey dummy body I built for the astromech gives some indication as to how bad the yellowing is, although my photo isn't the best.
The seller wanted to wait a week before sending it which I was ok with as I assumed they were either busy or waiting for the funds to clear beforehand, but now I'm thinking it could be to withdraw the funds to avoid giving me a refund -_-
Anyway with the unpleasant stuff out of the way and on to the model itself.
It's a lot larger than I expected for a play scale model, which isn't a bad thing per se, but I came out of my dark age when the newer, current models are much, much smaller. I was hoping to pair it with the #75150 Tie Advance X1 (I'm still waiting to pick one up) for a Death Star Trench Run diorama but I feel it could be too big LOL. I'm already going to need to order the deeper IKEA Billy bookcase to fit my #75055 Star Destroyer on, so presumably I can play around with positioning and perspectives to get something that looks and feels about right.
I'm not sure what to do with the Y-Wing now. I have a number of spare pieces I can add but not enough to finish it off, or pick and build pretty much the whole thing again from scratch, leave it as is as a badge of shame and hope for a Return of the Jedi 40th anniversary model next year, or get rid of it and buy another. Hmm...
Speaking of the #75055 Star Destroyer...I replicated the Advent Calendar Tantive IV micro build as best as I could. I didn't have any 1x1 cones so I had to use standard round bricks instead, then I jammed a trans clear lightsaber blade into the jumper, and plugged it into a polo stud (white stud with a hole) on the underside. I'm temporarily standing the whole thing on a few windows until I decide how I'm eventually going to mount it (hang it, or stand it... hmm). I'm also tempted to go with a few micro tie fighters from the #75315 Imperial Light Cruiser to add a bit of bling and scale to it too.
I thought it too good to be true, & when I opened the set's box & found the one pictured above, I thought I got scammed. I don't even know what that product IS 🤔🤔🤷♂️
Anyway the bricks are inside it & another included container. Manuals included cus I dislike using online pdfs anymore. Watching Ford Vs Ferrari to go along with the build.
I also picked up a second pilot and revised my #75300 Imperial Shuttle to have a two seater cockpit and opened up the interior space to accommodate at least six minifigures over the standard two. I removed the three bricks taking up the interior space, and bound everything with 1x12 plates to keep everything strong and sturdy.
As I downsized the cockpit baseplate to a 4x6 plate to get the steeper nose angle and hide the chin, that really didn't give me much to work with so I threw a couple of consoles to the sides instead. I also removed the pieces blocking the 'doorway'. Technically a minifigure can pass through it without accessories, but they will have to limbo. If anything, at least gives the suggestion of an entrance which I'm fine with. My minifigure pot is overflowing at present so I'll either part with a few I don't care for or dump a few in the back of the shuttle, or a bit of both hehe.
