That's a deal. I recently sold just a (new) mid hull piece from the Black Pearl for £45.

saw a #41335 30% off at Target, only issue appeared to be cosmetic damage to the box
it was gone by the time I got around to loading up the bank account linked to my target card and going back. that would have been a 5% discount, instead of 1% in rewards points, a few bucks on a purchase that size. maybe I could have foregone those savings, or made a return trip sooner
well, it was only a modest sale and I already have a huge backlog.

There was that time (maybe 4-5 years ago?) I saw #42025 for $60 on Amazon. I would have loved to get it, but money was especially tight then, so I had to let it pass. I'll still have the memory...

There's so much stuff I couldn't or didn't want to buy/keep as a kid or a younger adult for an amount of money that would be no problem to me now

    Whoops, #43115 not 41335
I found it on another shelf today which is what I was hoping for, that it had been moved, not bought by somebody else
Close call, gonna buy it this time
Turns out to be on sale at [email protected] for the same but no big promos there right now

I’ve had many good deals over the last few years, so I don’t usually feel bad about missing out, but this one stings a little.

Posted just 45 minutes ago, in the next town over. Already pending.

It just amazes me the complete randomness of sets.  Other than being LEGO, I can't really decipher a common theme or rationale for having that mix of sets.

But the Town Hall is very awesome.  One of the best and most underrated sets that had a unnaturally short life.

Not quite as good as above perhaps, but a lot posted on OfferUp Friday afternoon. I responded within FOUR minutes of it being posted and said I would come immediately (only about 15 minutes away).

It was $100 and had a complete TFA Millennium Falcon, First Order Star Destroyer, original UCS R2D2, a Technic Porsche 911, and at least one more larger unidentified set.

    I'll just keep hunting.

Missed this earlier today by about 10mins and just down the road. Has the Phantom as well, but couldn’t see Chopper, Ezra or the stormtrooper. What a bargain though.

I passed on this $200 lot as I just did not want to drive for an hour on Friday night. I would have if instruction where included, as I am still don't have instructions for market street.

I would have driven an hour on a Friday night for that lot. I would gladly pay $200 for Market Street, It's one of two modulars I don't have yet.

In addition, the Christmas tree is from one of the Winter Village Toy Shops which are worth a pretty penny as well.

How does it being a Friday night figure into it? Lots of bars &/or drunk drivers in your area?

Unfortunately, my "One 4 that got away" was my VIP May the 4th order for Lukes Landspeeder #75341 & the 3 GWP that has not been delivered nearly 3 weeks later 😢.

After calling LEGO CS 3 times, I finally requested a refund as the excitement I had 3 weeks ago has now turned into disappointment, the GWP are now well out of stock & I don't want to have to pay eBay prices to get them, (they were part of the trigger to buy the Landspeeder in the first place).

LEGO was very apologetic and has left the VIP points for the purchase + they have added more points to say sorry which I must say I am very appreciative of & thank them 👍.

Yodel delivered the last things I ordered from LEGO in the past, this order was supposed to be delivered by DPD but never got further than their depot 😒.

    So here's a curious case:
My One That Got Away has been sitting downstairs in my storage area for several years: a #10260 Downtown Diner that I scored at Target for a great discount, as it appeared to be an online order with an in-store return.
After watching a recent build video for this set on YT, I was inspired to crack it open and put it together.  To my shock and amazement, what poured out of the box was a bunch of 'sealed' bags all with number 3s...and no instruction booklet.  Uh oh.
After closer inspection of the bags, it turns out they were expertly re-sealed along the sides with a heat sealer and filled with random parts, some of which were partially assembled!  Okay, clearly a scam.  What amazed me, however, was the intact outer seals on the box!  Here's what I'm dealing with:

^^ This appears to be re-glued, so they went in through the sides to keep the factory seals intact!

^^ Here's the general condition of the box - kinda beat up, but I don't shy away from slightly roughed-up boxes.  Needless to say, I fell for the scam.  Oh well, off to Good Will with all that handi-work.  Careful out there!

^ I would be fuming, but since it has been sitting in storage for years, there's no recourse. What kind of parts were in the resealed bags?

Side note, I once met up with a lady to buy her gently used Town Hall. She had a legit box and instructions, but the bricks were Lepin.  She apparently had been taken by an Amazon seller many years ago, and never knew it.  I know she wasn't trying to scam me, because she had already sold me a genuine Detective's Office and knockoff Cafe Corner previously, so we both knew what was what.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I open anything I buy that looks like a return. Check it straight away. You cannot sell it as new/sealed anyway so no future investment value is lost if you cannot decide to build/keep right now.

Yep.  So much time had passed, I was more curious about the fraudulent tactics.  Fool me once!  Silly what lengths people go to for a buck.
It all appeared to be from City sets, but at least it was 99% genuine LEGO!  I found some old dark & light grey mixed in, and also an occasional off-brand piece which I trashed straight away.  It's funny how they pop right out when you inspect everything.  Meh, whatever, just thought I'd share the weird occurrence.

I thought it was a brick-built animal, check the ears protruding up over the chair back- & I think the "tail" thing is a dino tail? & there's MORE Lego behind #7953, the little Wizard set from Kingdoms maybe

I texted the seller re: any more Lego she may have, plus I'll ask about whatever set(?) it was on the chair...I have several questions surrounding the circumstances of her post.

Good deal on FB Marketplace (Plymouth MN) if it's complete. Calling it "pirate ship" = good bet she doesnt know what it's worth.

That means they've been bombarded with messages about it, and they're trying to figure out if they can squeeze more than asking price.

Well I was hoping I'd put this in the brag thread, but here I am once again. Found this last night & messaged the seller immediately. Description said "a few parts missing" & all I could really tell were about half the trans neon green pieces that make up the weapon beam, & I saw most of the figs in the provided pics so I was pretty stoked.

Took the seller all night to reply (understandably.so) & in the early AM while a was asking her about it, she bumped the price to $150- at almost the same time I mentioned my SON wanted it for years. Still a deal, but more than my son wanted to pay. & at this point I didnt want to give her my business anyway for her lousy business practice.

Well, for all my posts in this thread, maybe I'm due to score soon.

Good choice, I can't stand this kind of behavior.  What is wrong with people?  I wonder what she would say if a buyer requested more LEGO for the $150 price mid-transaction?

That's kind of how I felt all day today afterwards. & she could say "oh that $50 was a typo I meant 150 all along" & consider that a viable excuse 🙄🙄 I SUPPOSE it's within their bounds to do this but it really makes the seller look bad & shady.

I didnt reply back to her, I just let it go & deleted the convo. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Anything underpriced like that will get loads of messages in the first couple of hours requesting it. That is a clear indication it is underpriced. Plus some of them will probably have offered $75 or $100 to stand out from the crowd. And at that point the seller realises it is underpriced.

    lowlead said:

But it does explain why many of these online "steals" because someone doesn't know what they have rarely turn out well. Whereas face to face ones, in a thrift store or at a boot sale or yard sale, are much more likely to happen as the competition is much lower.

Clicking on a facebook advert on an obviously underpriced set is rarely worth it. You might help stop someone else getting it at a steal, but chances are you won't get it at the undervalued price.

There isn't really anything wrong with the person. They realise that what they have is worth way more than they thought it was worth and as they haven't entered into any agreements with people to sell it, they then charge closer to what it is worth. I imagine most people would do the same if they found out they underpriced something in the same circumstances.

    ^^ $10 bucks for a Silver Champion?
The cost of a coffee and sandwich at the drive thru...so is this the part where the seller gets flooded with offers and starts to jack up the price, or?
