Esp since LEGO rewards aren't a predictable value while Target ones are... not to mention the double-dip when I pay for them with gift-cards bought at a grocery store with HUGE fuel rewards kickbacks, especially with the utterly whack gas prices here in Seattle and idiots who never met a gas-tax increase they didn't wanna make babies with.

Which grocery store do you use for your gift cards? I hadn't considered that angle, but it might prove to be worth while!
The ballast project wasn't cheap! Just the last 4 unique lots (1x1 tiles, 1x4 tiles, 1x2 plates with slide, and some random color 2x8 plates) are going to be >$50. I'm definitely hoping that counts toward the threshold for the Forestmen's Hideout GWP next week.
I think my ballast ended up being around $80 for my layout. There wasn't any one part that cost a ton, but the total of everything added up. I ended up stalking BL for sellers with bulk offers available and ended up saving a bunch compared to the BnP offerings.
For the ballast project, I'm following the PennLUG pattern and am aiming for a 30"x60" oval, so it's a decent amount of track: 16 curve sections and 12 straights, if my math was right!. (http://l-gauge.org/wiki/index.php/Reference_Instructions) For now I'm just doing the ballast on the track pieces themselves as shown on Ref Sheets 1 and 4, but once I start the MILS phase of the project, I will also set the bases up according to the plans in Ref Sheets 2, 3, and 5 -- except I think I'm just going to use 32x32 plates for everything, which will mean combining some curve and straight sections onto a single plate.
I'm doing reddish brown for the cross-ties and DBG for the first under layer. With the MILS bases, I think I'm going to do white, rather than the "standard" of a consistent base color between track and baseplate.
I will definitely try to post pictures and comments as I move forward. Like I said though, I think I'm just going to focus on the track itself this year, with the track laying on my white table cover. I'm afraid the MILS phase is going to be particularly $$$ unless I hit a jackpot on white plates at a Bricks & Minifigs bulk sale. I don't have access to the other common way of getting affordable bulk lots...
Thankfully there is a Bricks & Minifigs where I'm moving too with a fairly good bulk-lot selection!
And then the parts-count on that King Air from JP3, even with only one outer wing rendered, is just scary... seriously, a buddy who flies the real thing for a corporate owner saw the game model and my attempt at translating it into LDD, and even half finished wanted one for his office. (Hint Hint Hint, Lego! And while you're at it how 'bout another way to get a JP Explorer rather than having to buy and scrapyard a second entire T-rex Breakout?!)
I absolutely need to get the creases out of the backdrop, but otherwise I think it's going to work out well and serve it's purpose.
I also built Optimus Prime over the weekend (didn't snap any photos of course) which I found to be a very fun build and I really love the final result. The transformation feature works nicely and both the truck and robot models look excellent. The 80s kid in me is super happy!
In other news, the builder has officially broken ground on my new home! Now I can start tracking actual progress with it.
Pictures to come!
They roam around the forest looking the forest looking for fights
They're men, they're men in tights
They rob from the Lego shipments then give to the poor, that's right!
Will get #41712 eventually
#41705 is nice enough but I don't need another pizzeria
#76208 is another maybe. Might go with a nonLEGO longboat model I have
I hope you're feeling better soon.

Lion Knights Castle and Galaxy Explorer!
I will absolutely be getting the remake of the Galaxy Explorer right away upon release (didn't see a date for that one). The castle I really, really like as well, but due to size and cost that one is going to take a little more thinking.
Both look like beautiful models and well suited to the 90th anniversary!
The castle is huge and looks glorious. Gonna take a big display space, for sure!
