^Nothing like insulting the Germans here on this forum... you win for most unpopular post.

@SumoLego "I doubt any of us are motivated in our daily lives by things that didn't happen to us personally, eighty years ago"
I 100% agree, although interestingly the Germans themselves seem incapable of understanding that (there's a video done by 'Easy German' where the interviewers ask random Germans in the street normally about the language, pronunciation, that sort of thing, but in this one video they ask Are You Proud to Be German? and the young people especially, including some young ladies about my age, go on these incoherent rants about 'gotta be careful', basically anyone who says literally anything positive about Germany is a Nazi; that's how they think which is just weird.)

To clarify, I wouldn't say there's suppression of thoughts as such, just whenever someone posts something nice for Ukraine there's always a bunch of people who whinge and complain about 'politics taking over' 'this is a Lego group'

You make some good points about the forum here, I was more referring to facebook groups.
But I am curious how people define 'personal and national politics', like if you're having a debate on a Lego site about whether Russia's invasion is justified, or the West is not doing enough, etc. etc. that's a political discussion and I agree not appropriate. But in my understanding of things I fail to see how, lets say a Lego Ukrainian flag and message of support, is being 'political', or making a 'declaration' about international politics.

In parts of New South Wales and Queensland right now, including my local area, there's been some horrendous flooding, in many cases unprecedented.
Now if someone were to for example go on a Lego site and post a Lego Australian flag, maybe some Lego minifigs filling sandbags, handing out supplies, or an SES boat helping someone for example, and included in their post a message of support for those affected, would you consider that a 'political statement'; would it be 'off topic' and therefore should be removed?

That's not an argument for my point of view by the way, simply an example and I'm interested to know how other people would react to that; indeed, would people consider there to be a difference between the Ukraine example and the flood example?

Well, I find it difficult to continue a fruitful discourse when you refer to 85+ million people as a homogeneous group.  So, I'm going to leave that alone.

I'm not familiar with the Facebook Group or other Facebook Groups.  Regardless, lumping this Forum in with other places on the interwebs isn't going to lead to much further discussion.  For those of us regularly in this Forum, there is a generally welcoming attitude.  And part of that is checking non-LEGO agendas at the door.  If there is some Facebook Group out there regarding LEGO that is permeated with political discourse, I know I'm not sticking around in that group for long.

I find most Star Wars-related fansites and groups to gravitate towards Pollyanna-ish grand declarations, with only conjecture to substantiate their claims.  Thus, I don't waste my time in them.  Those seeking to validate their malevolence won't have me as an audience.

A natural disaster is different than a political conflict.  I doubt anyone would object to efforts to help people in need.

With respect to Ukraine, I suppose those in support of that invasion are out there and may also enjoy LEGO.  I have a pretty significant bias against the invasion of sovereign democratically-elected nations.  I personally don't have an issue voicing support for Ukraine.  I'm not sure it is relevant to any discussion on these Forums.

I hope that better explains things, and I hope that'll help avoid any issues in the future.  I'm not an Admin or a Moderator, so take my suggestions however you like.

^That's all good. Suggestions and explanations noted and welcome! :)

This is sort of an unpopular opinion but what happened to the City People Packs?

I assume they must have become unpopular for Lego to stop making them or was there other reasons? To my knowledge they were immensely popular and kids seemed to like them from what I saw when they were in stores.

Sure, kids would naturally gravitate more towards say, a big police station set than a minifig pack but that definitely doesn't mean kids didn't like the people packs.

I did think the last couple, beach and mountain/outdoors were a little too specific perhaps (I've lived by the beach my whole life but there's an awful lot of kids out there who would have never been to the beach, or even here in Australia thousands of kids are really lucky if they go to the beach once a year), so perhaps not as popular as a 'generic' people pack like Fun in the Park.

Same goes for the outdoor camping one, which was very Americanised. I wasn't as keen on the outdoor one as most of the torsos, at least for me, were too specific to 'wilderness' activity or physical activity rather than just random people walking around a city/town.

But there are plenty of other locations that could be done, like Fun at the Market with some nice little market stalls like in the WV market, Fun at the Square (basically just fun at the park but maybe more centered around a European square), Fun at the Mall with some people shopping, I'm sure there's lots of other ideas.

I just picked up four or five of the carnival people pack thingy.  This seems to be the more efficient item.  The 20+ minifigure pack doesn't seem to be a high demand product, given the retail price.

if looking for minifigs the Hogwarts trunk has loads.  I had gotten 2 sets but am not as impressed with the trunk and inside builds as I thought I would be but the minifig variety of skin tones, hair and such is generous.

Another thought for torsos Brickchap is altering them @evancelt has been getting nice results over in the MOC thread.

What is this mysterious set you talk about?   20+ minifigs?  Isn't that usually huge sets like the Daily Bugle or the Chinese New Year sets?

From 2016 - 2020 they released 5 different People packs for the City theme.  There were 15 minifigs in most of them as well as small accessory builds.  Do a search on the main website to see them.  Some people thought they were a lot of money just to get some figures but others, including me, thought they were great for what they contained.  They were short of like Advent calendars on steroids.

There were people packs released over the last few years. One was a Carnival type pack with side builds. Another was a space themed version.

Both were really fun sets, but I agree the price was a bit much considering you were mostly just getting figures and a few small builds.

I never paid rrp for any of the ones I bought.   I figured you pay $10 per 3 pack of BAM in the Lego Store so for the same $40 at full price one would spend on 12 BAM figures you got 15 plus some interesting side builds, accessories & animals.

As a member of 15 Facebook LEGO groups (with over 140,000 members), I have to say they are all pretty well looked after by their Admins and Moderators.  Besides showing LEGO used in some fashion as a Ukrainian flag emblem, there has been no online political discussion in those groups.

Anyone who gets out of line gets banished from the groups.

I knew of the people packs, having purchased 3 myself, and I do agree they fill up a modular line pretty well (the beach and space ones maybe not as much).  But I thought there was a new set with 20+ minifigs to replace that line, since they only get 15 each or so...

There were packs for Lego Education that had lots of figs, but those were never offered in stores and were pricey, IIRC.

Speaking of unpopular opinions... Mine is that, as much as I still like minifigures, I'd rather have the old-school, simpler ones from the 80s and 90s, over the highly-specific ones we have now.

Looking at those figures above, it does bring a wave of nostalgia to me. I do miss the simpler times of LEGO figures. The new figures look highly detailed and incredible, but there was something special about the simpler times.

2021 was a slim year for my lego purchases. I aquired the 2021 modular,  ninjago city gardens, castle in the forest and the creator castle. Ctually, that's more than I originally though. However, for 2022 I am going to get nothing, not a single set. I don't have the room, need or desire for additional plastic blocks.

I'll check in here if I fail.

    #noLego2022
    Checking in:

I have made a couple Bricks and Pieces order back in February, that has still not shipped. I purchased #40539 and had it shipped to my daughter, as she is (well was) a huge Ahsoka fan. Other than that I have not purchased any set for myself. That may change on the 20th. I will most likely break my oath when 10305 Lion King’s Castle is released.

My Lego purchase list seems to be getting smaller and smaller at the moment. I have just 10 sets on my want list from last year and this year it is just 6. Even then I would not be to bothered if I don't pick any of them up. That is a real change from a few years ago when I tried to buy a lot of Star Wars, Marvel and DC sets. I might just be being grouchy but a lot of it seems to to be either rehashes that arent as good or sets that are just beyond my budget.

The only thing I would pick out is any hypocritical comments from people who say Star Wars sets, particularly large and UCS ones, are too grey, but then proceed to buy the Delorean, which is also very grey. I don’t care personally if the design of the set is good!

I have one that'll top @SumoLego and @Bumblepants , and give both a chance to run: If LEGO IDEAS allows Greek mythology,(which, has religion in it), we should be allowed to build Biblical stuff for IDEAS. I get that it's divisive, but accepting Zeus and disallowing Jesus seems unfair. If people can build Greek,Roman temples, don't block it if I want to build Noah's Ark. Otherwise, no temples of any kind should be allowed.

I never understood the ending of BTTF 3, sorry if this is a spoiler but the film's been out for like 40 years so I don't care.

So in 1885 there's a main line going ahead and a siding with a wooden bridge under construction. The steam train pushes the Deloren off the bridge, in time for it to time travel and land on the modern bridge in 1985. A diesel locomotive then destroys the Deloren. That all makes sense. But then Doc Brown and the teacher lady turn up in a steam punk style steam locomotive with their two children, which is also a time machine.
Can someone please explain what happened there? Like the steam train would go flying off the bridge and get destroyed and everyone would die. Now if Doc came back from the future in his time machine train and saved his past self and the teacher lady, that couldn't work because he's dead (if the train goes off the bridge) and that's a paradox.

I know that's not exactly relevant but I've always wanted someone to explain how that worked for me. I don't plan on having a big discussion about it though.

Some BTTF Lego sets would have been cool, I'd have loved to get all the 1950s clothes and cars, and as a fan of Western, BTTF 3 sets would have been very cool too.

Also just on above, Lego Masters Australia is seriously the best LM.

Ryan McNaught is such a great guy (I've met him in person once), and the cast are always really good and creative people. Only really series 1 I think it was had any cast members I really didnt like, some people are more interesting than others, but mostly everyone's really good and supportive of one another.

Hamish pisses me off though, why they had to get that bumbling fool I dont know. There's nothing wrong with having a non-Lego presenter, but jesus christ stop bringing attention to the fact Hamish knows nothing about Lego, and let Brickman speak!

I wouldn't commentate on Wide World of Sports and go on about how I know nothing about sport and frankly don't care about it, so why do that on LM?

Scotty from The Block was a lot better as he had proper respect for Lego and was a down to earth guy without needing to be a dick. In short, he was regular and non-Lego enough for non-Lego fans to relate to, but still interested and involved enough to work cohesively with the show, unlike Hamish who just chucks in some dumb joke very 30 seconds and constantly interrupts Brickman saying important and interesting things!

To be perfectly honest I've been asked by many people to go on the show but one of the reasons I don't apply is because I would have to deal with Hamish constantly badgering me and I doubt I'd be able to restrain myself from telling him to F#$@ off, which isn't the best look on national television...

I rewatched the 2 first ghostbusters movies a few years ago and they were much better when I was a child. I thought the first one was just ok and I got bored by the 2nd. I still bought the lego ecto 1, probably one of the best lego cars.

^^ Sounds like you need to watch BTTF 3 again.  Doc saves Clara with the hoverboard.  Nobody is on the train when it goes off the cliff.  It's implied that Doc and Clara lived happily ever after in 1885 while Doc figured out how to build his steampunk time machine, then they lived happily ever after with their two kids as the Time Traveler and His Wife.

    SPOILER ALERT!!!

In the very last scene of BTTF 3, it shows the train hovering like the modified DeLorean, so in this machine Doc could "hover" off the end of the bridge in the 1885 and arrive in 1985 level with the now-existing track.  Hey, why not?

Or maybe Doc and the family didn't come straight from the past, but went to the future first, so that when they travel to 1985 the bridge was there for them to use at the time they started...

...and to get to the future first by starting in the past, maybe they started the journey farther down the track and hit 88mph before they reached the ravine, or maybe the steampunk train just had more power to get up to speed earlier than the locomotive that was sacrificed to push the DeLorean back to the future. Or they didn't even use that part of the track to get to the future first.

(Or maybe the filmmakers weren't paying attention to the positioning of the locomotive in that scene and could have staged it to be more "realistic"...yes, we need more realism in our time-travel movies!)

I'm so glad my many repeated viewings of the BTTF franchise can be put to good use at last!  You're welcome!

@iwybs @Oldfan Thanks guys! Yes I haven't seen any of the BTTF movies since I was very young (and ironically I was very interested in the Wild West at the time so BTTF 3 was right up my alley).

The hoverboard part completely slipped my mind and frankly I still can't remember it happening but I'll take your words for it!

I had a lot of fun as a child, my Lego room had a ledge so that I had a natural cliff. I loved getting Duplo blocks and Thomas Tank engine track and trains and replicating the BTTF 3 scene (albeit with lots of vintage trucks and construction equipment around). Later I got Lego sets and did the same thing. Unfortunately by the time I got Constitution (the Lone Ranger set, with an 1880s type American steam train) I had long out grown that childhood phase.

    Anyway, unpopular opinion for y'all:

I don't understand why people whinge about leaks. As in, people rejoice when we get to the official release without here having been any leaks, I don't understand this.

Leaks are fun, especially official ones like the Lion Knight castle in the Deloran video and ultimately you're going to see pictures/info anyway so I don't see as to what the problem is if someone leaks them beforehand. It gives us something to look forward to and often there's changes made in the meantime anyway (eg Creator Viking Ship).

Besides, it gives us something to talk about and if there were no leaks then the Leaks and More Leeks thread would die which would be a real shame.

One thing I do hate though is fake news (in general), but in this case for leaks. Like some fool reckoned there was going to be a mini doll castle theme and had set names and numbers and then the next day said it was fake news and thought it was hilarious everyone had been hyped and strongly debating about it. That is just wrong and clearly some people have no work to do (and probably no life) spending their time making stuff up to the detriment of the rest of the Lego community.

    Lego Masters annoys me.
Not saying it's a bad show and the contestants are much more talented than I could ever be.
The annoying part is because I don't watch TV I don't watch Lego Masters. So I am constantly being asked Did you watch Lego Masters? Did you see what such and such built? You should go on Lego Masters Charmaine, you built all of those big sets. For the last 3 years or so I've been asked these same questions multiple times until the current season is finished.

@Charmiefcb I feel your pain mate. Had exactly the same thing, although that was only for about half of season 1 when I wasn't watching it. But yes, it gets very annoying when people badger you to go on the show just because you're a Lego fan. It's not like everyone who cooks dinner for the family gets badgered to go on Masterchef...

That’s a popular opinion surely? (As long as you stop calling me Shirley). The UK Lego Masters could probably be very much like the Aussie one if they brought it back but TLG and Endemol just seem to have totally dumped it - they keep showing Aus and US on E4 though, so they know the format is popular here in the UK?

The US version is just too over the top for me personally, though I still watch it. The contestants and challenges are generally awesome but the whole production around them is just a little too over exaggerated and focused on ‘celebrity’ cameos/shameless plugs for other things owned by Fox.

^ @Brickchap actually, my brother regularly bakes at the weekends and he gets a little tired of being told he should go on The Great British Bake Off. His baking is awesome but he loves to take his time and be meticulous, which isn’t great for that format!

Just on Lego Masters again, yeah the American one seemed very gimicky, interesting that the UK one didn't become popular.
I know it's really annoying and cringy the ads Channel 9 runs for Lego Masters AU, they make it like a trailer for a Marvel movie and to me at least I actually find it offensive because it sort of mocks the show.

Thankfully our celebrity guest episodes weren't that bad actually, 3 out of the 4 guests really got involved and showed a passion and respect for Lego (especially Scotty from The Block).

Unfortunately they had what I imagine happens in the American version, this guy called Wippa (who I had never heard of), who spent the whole time trying to 'trick' Brickman, then he tried to steal the trophy. It wasn't funny and it basically meant that Stani (the Lego fan) had to build an entire Christmas room, followed by a massive castle by himself, so naturally he lost the competition which was really sad. It was like Channel 9 was determined poor Stani shouldn't win.

The other celebrities were fun enough that the show didnt need any silly part.

Personally I'd have liked to see people like Stan Grant and Chris Ulhmann as the celebrity guests. Even better would be Lea Sales, Kerry O'Brien, Costa and Anh Do from the ABC. Or even Alan Kohler (he presents the finance report for ABC news but he has a funny side and often includes a laugh in his report, so much so that even as a child and someone who didn't understand finance I could still find his report interesting)

Just on that: Lea Sales is the 7.30 report interviewer, she's great at interviewing politicians and other important people and gets them with the right questions everytime. I'm sure she'd come up with some really interesting ideas. The same goes for her predecessor and first anchor of 7.30 report Kerry O'Brien, whom my mother has met. He's a really great guy and was also excellent at catching out politicians with good questions. They are both, I would argue, completely unbiased and apolitical in their interviews.

Costa is this funny Greek guy with a messy beard who hosts Gardening Australia (he would undoubtedly include lots of plants in his builds and probably laugh or get excited at all the Lego plant pieces).

Anh Do you guys may have heard of, he was a Vietnamese refugee who came to Australia and started doing comedy shows. He wrote The Happiest Refugee book and has his own show Anh's Brush with Fame, where he interviews celebrities and famous Australians while painting them. His paintings are always really good. He'd have some really creative ideas and I reckon he would be very particular about his use of colour.

As you can see, all really interesting and intelligent people. I wish they would have more people like that rather than just random 'celebrities' from stupid TV shows.

Also, for Lego Masters in any country, I reckon it would be cool having episodes like the British quiz show Eggheads (does anyone know that one)? Where each team of two 'civilian' Lego fans competes with one Master Builder (or like someone who works for Brickman for example, people who build and design models for Legoland parks etc. etc.) and then there two creations are judged at the end by the Master Builder Host (in Australia's case that's Ryan McNaught aka Brickman)

James Cameron is a pompous douche and I don't care about Avatar LEGO...ooof, I'm a Saltine Cracker today =oD

Despite his talent as a film maker, I could barely sit through a recent 'revisit' of the technical timeline of the Titanic disaster:  A bunch of millionaire Oak Island types in a roundtable circle jerk waxing philosophically in front of a scale model longer than a tour bus.  Eye-rolling, narcissistic and insufferable.

    ...but thanks for Aliens ;)

I am actually very happy about one thing for Avatar LEGO.... that it's not The Last Airbender Avatar, and I can safely ignore the whole theme, which is a first for me in the last few years.

If one type of religion is allowed, then disallowing another kind of religion is discriminatory, as I see it.  Either allow all religious inspired builds or none of them.
