    Did bag 7 of UCS AT-AT  I now have feet, legs and hips. Will crack open box 3 and bag 8 tonight to start on the main body.

    I'll have to dig out my old Hoth Lego soon and buy a few white base plates.

    Lego SW need to retake the crown for the longest set ever made so imo a refresh of the 2012 SSD is overdue. 

    I love how elegant 10221 looks but it's all too symmetrical and I feel it could be beefed up by a few more thousand pieces. That being said this model is so structurally sound and I'm happy to lift it and move it around without fear of losing or breaking pieces.

    The last one was £350 RRP and I got mine for £270 (remember retirement discounts?)

    How much better would they remake it to justify a probable £700 price tag in 2022 I wonder? Any rumours on 2022 UCS yet? As the repository are the normal now, I'd expect the next OT one to be Vader's Tie Fighter or AT-ST.

    ^So many elements within this model that are incredible! I'm a huge fan of the sloping rockwork, the windows, the circular tower, castle walls....

    Basically, all of it!

    @steveomcl Agreed.  The #10221 is one of my favs, and is still prominently displayed in my office.  Despite the dimensions, it's so sturdy I can whip it around during cleaning, bump it against walls, etc...and it just takes it!
    @monkeyhanger Having said that, the model suffers from two significant inaccuracies which cannot be unseen after comparing the set side-by-side with the popular MOCs: The width, and the slope of the upper panels.  I would like to see in a remake a wider overall shape to the 'arrowhead' plan view, and a more shallow slope to the top panels.  Perhaps a more detailed treatment on the underside as well.

    Just got the Lunar New Year Ice Festival and the tiger.  Built the tiger just now.  It’s a nice little build - good cause that’s still about all I can do - enjoyable and cute.  I don’t have any but wonder how black sausages would look instead of the horns.

    anyone build any of the past CNY animals?  Wondering if they were similarly good builds and maybe be worth trying to get or piece together.

    @Lo1sJess I have the dog, rat, and ox. I wish I had them all. I too am thinking of getting the parts I don't from BnP- I probably have most already.

    They're all similar builds except for the Sheep.  You can tell they changed the design concept between the Sheep and Monkey.

    ^5/8th of the hull should be below the waterline. That would make the build more interesting I think.

    IIRC, if you stood on the lowermost deck of HMS Victory, there'd be twenty feet of water above your head with only eight inches of oak between you and it.

    I broke my 1 bag per day rule again - 3 bags of the UCS AT-AT done this afternoon. I now only have box 4 to do (the head and all the plating on the body, the UCS Plaque).

    Oddly, the figures aren't well distributed throughout the build - only had 3 figs so far - the standard Snow Troopers, and they were all in 1 bag. 

    Pleased to confirm that my mod to keep the belly/drive plating assembly secure didn't get in the way of attaching legs/hips to the body frame. 

    I was one piece short via substitution on bag 12. I was 1 unut short for the 1x1 technic cross hole "washers" (or spacers) in LBG, but I did have a spare yellow one, so I used it. No accidental substitution earlier in the build on my part.

    I was very impressed with how they achieved the flexibility in the neck too. Nowhere near as flexible as my old Kenner AT-AT, but for Lego, very good.

    Just finished #80109 Ice Festival ... don't really like it. I think it must have been designed by committee, one that wasn't communicating well! Parts of it are neat I like the guy ice fishing with that very interesting tree behind him. The photo thingy is okay too. The rental place/shop is dreadful looking. I like the idea of the ice sculpture area but think it is poorly executed although it may be more that it was overwhelmed by what is around it. I think this one may soon get deconstructed and maybe some parts made as vignettes like the ice fisherman.

    So met up with 560Heliport in person & swapped for some stickered parts to do #8644 Street Maniac!! Had a short chat, was a pleasure meeting him-- turns out he knows my oldest brother (I have a pretty distinct last name)

    I don't always get to meet up with real ppl from my interest groups-- thanks again!!

    so here's my current Tiny Turbos collection with the recently built #8147 Bullet Run & #8134 Night Crusher. I did #8681 Tuner Garage (not the vehicles) from collection & went so far as ordering integral stickered parts on Bricklink. (Armored car built from collection so the bad guys would have an objective besides breaking traffic laws.)

    Hopefully they have their winter tires on, or they may never make it off the rink!  Also, you need to MOC a Tiny Turbo Zamboni now…

    Finished bag 15 of the UCS AT-AT today. Highly frustrated with the head's side blocks and plating. Things were dropping off the head left right and centre as I tried to place them and get the gaps between top and sides to be minimal. The curved block work under the cheek plating that's fixed horizontally, the cheek guns, the little wing bits that circle the cheek cannon domes. Every time I sorted a breakage and put the cheek plate Assembly back together, then gingerly attached it to the main head frame, it would drop off again. I checked the main head assembly for correct geometry. I got it eventually for both cheek plate assemblies, but would not be surprised if they drop off again as I do the plating on the main body to finish it off.

    In certain stages of the build, clutch for 2 or 4 stud connections seemed very poor compared to other previous builds - is that just me experiencing the above?

    @monkeyhanger I've noticed clutch on new parts seems sometimes to be less. I don't have the AT-AT, but in various new sets. I don't know whether it's new designs or new parts that might have been made on older molds.

    560Heliport is a really knowledgeable member here. Hearing him talk about less clutch is a hugely scary statement! Clutch is everything with Lego. Makes me real nervous.

    @Marshallmario thank you for the compliment! I really hope that what I've noticed is just occasional differences in dimensions that are just the result of parts not being identical (because nothing's perfect).

    Got Technic sets #8448 & #9396 thru a trade, the guy posted a bunch of sets for sale in a FB group, members (me included) flocked to it & it was pulled down within minutes-- but not before I was able to contact him & make a trade deal! (Something to be said for idly scrolling on a Sat morning 🤣)

    He was initially looking for $$$ but chose 3 of my least favorite Technic sets. He didnt mention he smokes. so here are the bags sitting outside to get the initial stink off before I work with the parts.

    Ouch, man. Maybe a light spritz of Febreze or whatever they use to kill cigarette odor in cars might help too?

    Well In the past I've sealed items in Ziploc bags containing dryer sheets & it's worked great. I'll probaby wash everything if I find time this weekend anyway.

    #8448 (Super Street Sensation) is my favorite Lego set of all time.  If I had to sell my entire collection and keep only one thing, it would be that car. It was my first "big" purchase with my part-time job at Toys'R'Us in 1999.

    ^^As someone who is on the taller end of humanity, I can appreciate the creative solution to having a higher platform on which to build. But that may be one of the more creative approaches I've seen! 

    Best luck on your next project. The live-edge table looks brilliant. Though finding a slab large enough for an adequate LEGO workspace may prove difficult.

    I think I’d seen that table levitation method before and commented on it. But, yeah :)

    The other thought I had was that live edge tables like that are expensive.

    If you have money to burn, get a bigger 3-leg, L-shaped table. You can have more parts within easy reach.

    According to a web search: Live edge style means that a piece of furniture is designed according to the way the wood looks in nature, and the primary edge of a slab is kept in its primal state.

    Do a google image search and you’ll see some good examples immediately. Simplest explanation is that the edge of the table is made with a board that isn’t squared off, it’s just de-barked, leaving a natural-looking set of curves and textures.

    So I sit down 2 hrs ago to start #8448 SSS & very few of the parts I need are there...like NONE of the black Technic bricks I need to even start...I move the entire operation downstairs to my Lego Lab so I'm not running up & downstairs all night chasing parts...eventually I get so exasperated at what's wrong, & then I realize I'm BUILDING THE WRONG CAR-- I thought I was getting 8448 but he sent #8070 Super Car.

    Boy am I an idiot IDK whether to laugh or cry. 😄😄😫😫
