The Most Expensive Minifigures in the Secondary Market? Most Rare?

Are there any lists out there that show a picture, name and price of rare minifigures? Would be helpful since I just ran to the attic and came back with all my lego.

I'm not aware of anything that JUST shows the rare minifigures. Your best bet is to look at BrickLink and do a search for minifigs that cost more than $X.XX. Unfortunately, that yields a lot of recent minifigs (many Star Wars) which simply have a great market value.

Off the top of my head:
    - Classic Castle figures (especially with visors) are pretty rare and pricey
    - White pigtails: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=pln101
    - Ice Babe (not as pricey as I thought): http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=sp017
    - Green Ninja: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=cas212
    - White-hat princess: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=cas096
    - Admiral: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=pi001
    - Islander Babe: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=pi066

    Uber Rare:
    - NesQuik Bunny: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=gen003
    - Red Sox: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=redsox

The white ninja, forest wench, and pirate wench, were pretty rare until they were re-released recently.

Otherwise, there are a lot of minifigures that aren't RARE per se, but are still worth quite a bit, like Blacktron 1 figures, Castle soldiers (pretty much anything), Imperial Armada soldiers (red or blue), and tons more.

wow I actually have a few old Castle soldiers from early 80's :D along with alot of original "space" minifigs. I don't think I'll part with those though, no matter what the value.

There are a lot of star wars figs that are expensive, as stated.

The Frankenstein from the Studios theme is also quite expensive, I just don't know if the series 4 "variant" has affected its price.
  • OrthobotrexOrthobotrex Member Posts: 165
Add the superheroes to the list, like Batman, for example.
  • indy1973indy1973 Member Posts: 70
Naturally, the price of a figure that is still in current production mostly depends on how much you would have to spend to buy a set that includes it.

For example, the Temple of Doom is about $90, so Mola Ram was/is about $20. Major villains will often be like that. Only available in one big set.

I hear (and see on eBay) that the Jango Fett minifigure from 2002's Jango Fett's Slave I goes for quite a pretty penny all by itself provided it is complete and in good condition. Since Lego has yet to make another Jango Fett, I'd say its value has only increased over the years, and that makes me treasure the excellent condition I've kept that set in since I purchased it on a whim back in 2002.
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,694
Yes, The 2002 purple Jango goes for about $100 or so. I've seen the Cloud City Lando go for $160. But I disagree with the re-release of the forest girl. If you really want the original all you have to do is look at the under side of the torso and the difference is easily seen. As with all of the older figures.
  • VithVith Member Posts: 31
Thanks for the tips guys, will keep looking for those. :)

The most crazy price I've seen is the blue female alien thing from 8098, going for £20 on ebay regularly despite the fact its a _current set_ and only costs £70 for the set. Nuts!
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
@oldtodd33 Yes, if you want an original. But if you want something similar to the original, then the re-release is fine and your demand can be met with this additional supply. In other words, the re-release is an imperfect substitute good

@davee123.. You forgot the blue vest guy from the town square set...
  • davee123davee123 Member Posts: 854
Yeah, I probably forgot quite a few! Here's a few more, again, off the top of my head, and not counting anyone from 1999 onward (there are lots that you could count from 1999 with all the licensing):

    - Blue Vest from Town Square: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=twn012
    - Blacksmith from Armor Shop: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=cas089
    - Maersk Cap guy: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=msk001
    - Original Maersk Hard-hat: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=jred013
    - LEGO Loco figure: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?M=trn066

As for Harry Potter, I know that Professors Trelawney and Umbridge fetch at least $30 each, but I've seen them go for well over $60.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
I have a funny feeling the Maersk hard hats have now come down in price a bit
  • MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
@LuciusMalfoy7, Those two are the most expensive, but Professor Quirrel and for some reason the new Professor McGonagall fetch quite a bit too.
I'm going to be doing this: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/comment/5242/#Comment_5242
  • LuciusMalfoy7LuciusMalfoy7 Member Posts: 107
@Matthew - Wow! I'd die to get my hands on that (not literally, of course.) That's odd that Quirrell fetches so much. Then again, I don't set much store by the early yellow figs, seeing as I must convert all of mine to fleshie. Otherwise, I go crazy, you see. Is it just me, or are half of the Mad-Eye Moody's on eBay poor customs?
  • wander099wander099 Member Posts: 114
Well a lot of the Harry Potter figures were released a while ago (ex. Peeves), are only included in one set (ex. Filch), or are vast improvements over the previous version (ex. McGonagall). I expect a lot of them are rare. And whether they are the classic yellow heads or the new flesh coloured heads also probably plays a role. I am hoping for new versions of most of them so I can get my hands on them all in flesh colour and get the ones I missed.

Excluding the gold and silver c3po and boba fetts, what are the top 10 minifigs as far as value?
    Jango Fett
    Lando cloud city
    Boba cloud city
    Chrome c3po
    Original watto
    Chrome vader
    White boba

Who am I missing? I know the star wars sets pretty well but I'm not as familiar with minifigs from other lines.

Alfred from the old Batcave set is pretty expensive.
    The original winged Geonosian too.
  • adello25adello25 Member Posts: 361
How about the original Dark Blue Batman and Bane
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^The first Batman wave is golden for minifigs.

Original Blue/Gray Batman indeed, I sold 2 today for $50 each. Alfred goes for ~$40, Nightwing almost the same, Scarecrow and Killer Croc are both consistently over $30 each. Black & White Two-face with painted hips is hitting over $30. With the original Robin with long Wavy Hair hitting over $30 also.

Luke and Leia from Cloud city can be expensive as well

Professor Trelawney and Mad-eye Moody seem quite pricey
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,940
I'm going to 2nd BrickDancer's answer - The original Batman Villains seem to go for megabucks, even now (but guess that could change if we see new versions).

Professor Trelawney and Mad-Eye Moody are two hot candidates for expensive minifigures as well...

Question -- I happen to have some of the old school magnet minifigs (the ones with the magnet inside the torso) -- Batman, Two Face, and presumably the Penguin somewhere. Is that Two Face worth anything -- or do people only find the "true" minifigs to be worthwhile?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Only the true minifigs count. Magnets are worth very little, ~$10 or less. Someone on Ebay tried to pass off a magnet-gray/black Batman on me a month ago at ~$13, got an immediate full refund soon as I hand it in my hand and noticed the difference in weight. Same week, another seller tried to pass off a SW Royal Guard with glued hips, full exchange on that one for an authentic.

Ouch. No wonder the first gen Batman sets are so expensive....
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
Chrome C-3PO seems to take the biscuit, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?M=sw158, cheapest available is £200.

Hold on... Cloud City Boba is currently at £230, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?M=sw107, usually he can be had for £100 or so. Unbelievable...

If you take the Exclusives into contender, then the 5 Comic-Con Superheros are in the TOP10 for sure. An Ebay auction I bidded on this weekend for Green Lantern, Batman and Superman from the New York Comic-Con ended at ~$500 for all 3 figs. The Toy-Fair Ironman and Captain America were hitting over $200-$300 each solidly. That's super crazy for non-numbered limited ones such as Gold-Chrome C-3PO, which is much more understandable.

But for standard figs, Cloud City is the winner hands down as single set. It benefited from being in the first wave of the SW series, desirability for completionists/collectors, and the low quantity out there.

As a related question, do you guys actually prefer the older minifigs over the newer, more detailed ones, such as Watto?

Wow. All of the original Batmen/Spiderman minfigs I have were from Craiglist finds. I think I must have about 6-8 of those original Batman minfigs in the 2 different color schemes.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
I'm gonna go old school on you guys.

Green ninja. Not Ninjago. But the original Ninja series from 1999-2000. There were 2 versions, one was a princess. They both came in the same set. A special ninja 3-pack with those overly-large stands (Star Wars & NBA had similar ones). $50+ for each one.

And there's a very, very old town minifig girl with white pigtails. The white pigtailed cop minifig is expensive.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^toki, the gray/blue is much better than gray/black. Mine were in brand new condition. Sold one with no cape last week for $38. Still got 3 more perfect ones for long term. See my batman minifig display case on the other thread?

@prevere Do you have a pic or link of the ninjas?

On a ninja-related note, check out the eBay prices for Ninjago NRG figs, ZX also gets pretty good prices. And these are mostly available now.

@prevere I got one of those green ninjas in an ebay lot. When it arrived it was quite worn and marked :(

@Boisestate wow! Some people obviously don't know about Bricklink. Could have saved themselves $20 :P
  • DuchessaDuchessa Member Posts: 287
These are the green ninjas that @prevere talked about:
    http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=3346-1

They are on my wanted list as well. I have all of the old ninja sets except that one. And yes, I have the rare female minifig with white pigtails as well :)
  • jamiewjamiew Member Posts: 165
    I frogot about this one:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOY-FAIR-2012-EXCLUSIVE-LEGO-STAR-WARS-CHROME-DARTH-VADER-2009-1-100-/360436470818?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53ebb01422

Though I've never understood the price tag. A regular chrome vader can be had for 40-65 regularly. Wasn't there also some superhero minifigs from Toy Fair that still do well?

Looks like the Cloud City Boba and the Chrome C3P0 are the two highest by far.

I wish i had that kind of money to spend on sets never mind just on the figures.
That said i just bagged a sealed chrome stormtrooper for £14.99 on ebay with free p&p.
  • avoiceoreasonavoiceoreason Member Posts: 224
anyone have a pic/link to the white pigtail minifig? Having trouble picturing which one this is.
  • DuchessaDuchessa Member Posts: 287
    It's this one: http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/?m=old037

It's just the white pigtails that are rare, not the rest. She's from set 365 :)
