Two weeks ago I came across this collection for sale locally, $200. It didn’t look like anything good so I scrolled past. I came back to it the next day and it hadn’t sold, so I started zooming in on the photos and saw one piece of red roller coaster track.
I decided to gamble on it and offered him $160, he accepted and I picked up that evening. Got it home and the tote was full of City and Jurassic sets (no dinos through) so l it was a long ten nights of extracting the coaster from the rest.
Finally yesterday I sold the remaining parts for $250, so all told, for my time and energy and a couple of small BrickLink orders, I got a free #10261 roller coaster.
One of my best finds on Facebook was a similar scenario where I saw a single part poking out of all the bricks that grabbed my attention. I nabbed the bin for $80, sorted out the UCS X-Wing, Brick Linked the 30 or so missing parts, and resold the bin for $100. A "free" USC set in hand.
Is it possible to enter a 2nd Dark Age? Building these sets just seem to suck up my day now- I feel like I need a different hobby that gives a bigger payoff vs. time invested ratio.
Currently one.son grabs miniiigs from the stockpkle & carried them around with him but usually leaves them laying around. I think this is the 1st Christmas he hasn't asked for/doesn't want Lego in some form or other.
The other son has Lego from his younger days but hasn't been even slightly interested for years-- since he discovered online gaming- & even now probably.wouldnt care if I sold his sets, though my wife forbids it.
I turned 50 this fall, I know age doesnt matter around here but I think that's also part of what's going on-- not worried that I'm running out of free time, but I need to make what time.I DO have, matter more.
I don't go for bulk lots very often at all, but I could see in the photos that this one had Pirates minigures and pieces as well as some Forestmen stuff, so I took the gamble. I definitely think I made the right one. Removed all of the non-LEGO (only a handful of pieces) and pulled out all of the minifig stuff and printed pieces, etc. Also separated out all of the old light gray and still have a solid pile of random bulk. Pretty much everything is obviously late-80s/early-90s vintage.
On arrival I found a mixture of good and bad news, but overall I did certainly come out ahead. The #6279 Skull Island set was mostly present (90%+ I'd guess) in the box (which was also in really good condition). Unfortunately however the #6250 Crossbone Clipper box was completely empty except instructions. The #6079 Dark Forest Fortress box had a number of pieces (maybe 25% total, sadly no baseplate) to the set and the instructions but nicest of all it had a couple of the minifigures, including plumes (and two new-on-sprue plumes for both red and blue), Forestmen shields, and quite a few of the old brown corner panel pieces. The other two boxes were both mostly empty. The two boxes of bulk contained quite a bit of pieces for the UFO ship as well as Aquazone parts and pieces including about 10 minfigures.
So, while not the deal of the century that I was hoping for, I definitely ended up on the positive end of the bargain for this one.
Still feeling sad that none of the Clipper was there though.

#4565 Freight and Crane Railway (1996)
#9748 Droid Developer Kit (1999)
#6919 Planetary Prowler (1998)
All of the electrics work, and a couple of the crane parts are still in a sealed bag. No minifigures or speed controller, but that’s not a big deal for me.
The seller said it was an estate find, and everything is in very good condition. It feels like maybe some grandparents had this collection at their house for when the grandkids came to visit.
The seller is in the Netherlands.
This "Lego Mixed 1 Pound Lot of Race cars" ($25 with free shipping on eBay) appears to be most of #10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. I'm pretty sure part of the nose is missing, but it looks to be most of the rest, plus a few random 80s/90s minifigures for some reason. It will be fun to sort out and reassemble when it arrives.
I rebuilt the nose from my collection, and I just need 10 more parts through BrickLink to complete this fun little model.
Not too much of a brag, but did find set #75941 at my local Walmart. The shelves have been pretty much bare for the last month and I was surprised to find this set. I found it weird that it was listed as Walmart Rollback price of $85 Only one set left, so maybe there were more available. Anyways, I’m happy I got one.
