    Just some rough math:

The old shelves look to be around 76 studs wide, or approximately 2.5', and fit roughly 37 minifigs (with double-offset rows) per row.

The new shelves are 5' wide as indicated by the post, so that doubles the count per row, or 74 with the same double-offset rows. I'm taking a rough guess, but estimate about 15 rows worth of space based on the current spacing in the new shelving unit. So, roughly 1,110 minifigs, give or take?

    Just a guess.

I already ran those numbers, My old shelves fit 370 on large and 185 on the smaller one with out cramming them on there totaling 925 for all 3shelves.

My new one will hold 1079 without cramming that is proper spacing. each shelf is going to have Fourteen 4 x 12 plates and hold 83 figures per shelf and total 13 shelves on the unit.

Take note my old shelves sometimes got crammed and I could squeeze on typically 50 figs  each shelf that was designed to hold 37 so cramming numbers I have no idea!

OK, so... Brickset says I currently have 1,018 minifigures... I need to start building one of your shelves now and plan to build another one soon for the overflow! (In reality I have a ton of "duplicates" and wouldn't really want to put Modular or WV minifigures onto a shelf like that, so I'd be ok with shelf space for ~1k for a while longer, but man... that really puts into perspective how many minifigs I have at this point--enough to fill a 5'x6' shelf!

Took me a bit of googling to find the door I had seen previously:

    https://www.brickhello.com/post/2018/01/11/inside-the-home-of-a-hardcore-afol

They "only" hold ~300 minifigures per door, but I'll bet there are more efficient ways to arrange this.

Another kind of fun option could be something similar to the door, but maybe a set of sliding panels . . . hmm... engineering that could be fun! Alas, I am not building out my basement anytime soon.

Thanks for sharing @autolycus. That site will provide a lot of inspiration to be sure.

The door display would be fairly easy to accomplish with a hollow panel door and some plexiglass.

With a home build on the near horizon, I may be able to put some of this inspiration into practice!

Just completed bag 15 of Home Alone and instead of a getting a 1x2 Tan Tile, I got a 1x2 trans Dark blue title.

    Anybody else encounter this?

I don't remember how I stumbled on that site, but yeah, some nice inspirations for my day dreaming. The doors seemed like a great solution because it takes advantage of otherwise blank space and frees up wall space for other things. I love the really long cabinets with glass doors too. Looks like 6-7 modulars length on the one bank. That's a LOT of nice dust-free display space.

If you don't want to do custom built-ins like that, have you ever seen the Moducase stuff? https://us.moducase.xyz

Pricier than Ikea Kallax or Besta, but they're deeper and a little more flexible with your horizontal space, in that you don't have to have the panels installed between two cases. That means you can stretch a seamless display out across 2 or more. They've also got magnetic front panels, so I would expect them to be easy to pull off to really work around the display area without an open door getting in the way.

That is about 10x the cost of building your own shelving.

I built #21330 a couple of weeks ago and it's been on my kitchen table ever since so I can play with....I mean admire the design. One piece sticks out for me though:

"A lovely cheese pizza, just for me" is Kevin's line...so why are there any other toppings? Not a big deal and I know there isn't a plain cheese pizza part available.
Having grown up watching the original film every year, getting such a large house with so many details and easter eggs is fantastic.

If you're building them yourself, probably. If you're incapable of building such things yourself, or at least with the quality end product you want, I'm not sure they're much more expensive, if at all, compared to hiring a custom cabinetmaker, which is what would be required for this style cabinet. You can't just walk into a normal building supply store and buy off-the-shelf cabinets anywhere near that wide.

    @KungFuKenny Sounds like a plan! :)

Say, when you finish the build you can laugh like 'Johnny' from Angels with Filthy Souls (the black and white gangster movie)

^^ I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the build as well. I had the same feeling after finishing it myself.

I hope you enjoy the Home Alone house. It is certainly on my wishlist of sets. So I'll live vicariously though anyone else who is building it currently!

I couldn’t get this center beam flatcar out of my head this morning, so I built it. Now I need to find some appropriate cargo.

Typical Boxing Day at Speedy Towers. Big mug of coffee while I chose what to build, then clear the kitchen table ready....
....starting with all the seasonal accessories and then onto the chassis....

@Speedman29 Where did you get that yule log? I want one! The dog is a great addition btw.

Off topic but I'm curious, where does the yule log tradition come from?

It's not an Australian thing although we have started selling them. I always thought they were a European tradition although my Viennese friend had no idea what a yule log was, so it's not an Austrian (or likely German) tradition either apparently.
