I wonder if it is just cheaper/easier to produce like that or is it a calculated effort to tank the resale value of the GWPs

It hasn’t affected the resale value of Yoda’s Lightsaber too much! That one is selling for >$100.

Could it be a savings in cardboard and packing materials and thus more environmental friendly?

Cheaper to produce. No bespoke artwork on the box.

I have to say, I absolutely hate the new GWP boxes.
What’s new about them? Santa’s Front Yard has the same style box as GWPs from the last few years.
I'm assuming he means the yellow thin cardboard boxes used for the camera.
Yeah, I suspected that, but in this case the yellow box wasn’t the GWP, since you had to spend points for it.

I'm buying nothing right now. BSSS 2021 is on and my Santa already has a hard job, so I'm not about to make it harder!
As long as you only buy yourself sets over £20 you should be ok - looks like you can still get that UCS AT-AT… 🙂
Unless I have a very generous SS :-)

Only kidding - it's not even on my want list.

At least you don't have a 'colourful' flying car in one of them. Unless you do, of course...

AT-AT ordered on 12:01 for $749 after some VIP redemption.
So before the adrenaline crash occurs, I'll hang around on the LEGO site to see if it crashes...curious if the all the hype turns into massive sales...

It's not going to crash. Too many sets sold out, not enough discounted sets and GWP is nothing special. This Black Friday sale turned out to be a nothingburger.

^^ Sure seems that way - not even a hiccup on the site so far.  Certainly not complaining, of course...

Just got myself #43115 for €29,99... Saw it on Amazon for 45 for a while, promised I'd buy it when it went below 40. I've never bought (not seen any on offer in The Netherlands) Lego at 70% off... Stoked to get it, just for the parts!

So at least for the cost, they stuffed each one in a doubled-up plastic tote bag...made the trip back to the car much easier this time.

Wish my local had done that. I got the freebies in the little paper bag and then just given the box to arrive. Had quite a walk back to the car and that box is huge and slippery. I was adjusting my grip about every 30 steps to avoid dropping it.

    What’s new about them?
The yellow-border ones are prone to ripping at the corners.  One more thing to be aggravated by when acquiring these on the after-market...

^^ Shout out to the Sawgrass Mills, FL staff where that photo was taken.
They had them pre-packaged and ready to go.  Walk-in to walk-out was about 7 minutes, despite the hoards of customers.

They gave your bag to @lowlead ;-)

But seriously, why would they double-up a plastic tote? Those things are pretty sturdy.

^^ They didn't have to, but they did anyway.  That's just good service I guess.  I certainly appreciated the gesture, and it prompted me to fill out the email survey and leave good feedback.

    #41393 Baking Competition
20% off at Target, Walmart had the same deal
Had been thinking about it for my LEGO food collection. the subject matter reminds me of a lot of the stuff Mom watches on streaming services

I got it awhile ago on a pretty good sale because we love all the baking shows in our house, and it definitely matches up with them well.  Great little set with some great little easter eggs as well.  Definitely recommended.

A successful weekend for me, multiple copies of #31199 and #31200 (Iron-Man and Darth Vader Art sets - at nearly 40% discount it was hard to say no!) so I can create the larger images to display in my new house which I will hopefully be moving into sometime in 2022 (been nearly 2 years waiting now due to various reasons such as Covid and supply issues for building materials) even managed to pick up some stuff for the kids!

Nice AFOL day with #10275 and #10293 WV sets in my hands. Considered getting another Santa's Sleigh, but in the end decided for another omnipotent being that watches people be good or bad.
I'm also quite proud of myself for not getting the MBS Cantina. I did wander around the store for a while considering it though. One of these days I might actually get it, but for now I'm not ready for the mental gymnastics of justifying the cost and required space for it.

I recently scored not two, not three, but four of the Super Mario Character Packs Series 3 from a BrickLink seller: 1-Up Mushroom, Amp, Swoop, and Torpedo Ted. As these aren't supposed to be retired yet (despite having vanished from most stores here seemingly for good), the prices were 33% lower than retail, and even after including shipping I still paid less than retail for the whole lot. One of the rare times skipping a deal resulted in a better deal. Not the smartest game to play of course, but I'm glad it worked out this time around.
And that completes all my remaining LEGO Super Mario purchases for the year.

This weekend I scored some great deals from retailers: got today also a Mos Eisley cantina at 39% off aside from the garages from yesterday. This is a good weekend.

Romania. Luckily there are 2 big retailers that are fighting for supremacy, so they battle in sales all the time for the past 2-3 years.
On the other hand about 4-5 years ago we could only dream about the clearance prices I read about here on the wallmart and target threads.

    Here is the link:
    https://altex.ro/lego-starwars-mos-eisley-cantina-75290-18-ani-3187-piese/cpd/JUCLEGO75290/

It has extra 10% off this weekend.

Here is the lego cerified website with the official RRP price for comparison:
    https://brickdepot.ro/lego-star-wars-c-3/cantina-mos-eisley-p-17780.html

So 1105 Ron price from 1800 Ron RRP.

Do it @Bumblepants. Another (not so proud) reason for these sales is that the people in the country are too poor to buy these high-end sets in numbers, so they get big discounts to get moved off the shelves.

They could resell their cheap Lego on the international market. Not that it would help the rest of us :)

the postage to send something even to Hungary is mind boggling. It`s one of the reasons i don`t bother creating a BL store. I don`t get how some sellers can send from Germany or Belgium to me with 5-8 Euros, and I`d have to pay a minimum of 15 for a small bubble envelope to send something to Germany/Belgium, and a lot more for boxes.

Ended up stopping by Target yesterday while running errands. They didn't have any of the Classic Space plushies as I expected, but I did grab a couple of the t-shirts as well as a set of the coasters. Browsed through the rest of the collection, overall a rather fun and colorful selection of stuff even though most of the clothes don't appeal to me personally at all.

Stopped by my local LEGO Store this weekend during a date night trip with the Mrs. I was able to see the new AT-AT in person alongside the Titanic and Home Alone House. I was very impressed by each of them to say the least!

My wife also stopped at the BAM bar and started putting figs together to add to our Winter Village. We were able to find three Christmas sweaters, a few dual molded legs, and then a snowboard, guitar, and chameleon for accessories. It's a bit of a random assortment, but definitely fits into the feel of our village.

I just bought this lot on eBay. The bottom two bags are parts from #10193 Medieval Market Village. We’ll see if it was worth it.

Proof! Not sure they are officially Christmas Sweaters (or Jumpers for our non-USA members). But, they fit the need.

I didn't intend these to be the final figs that ended up in the village. I like their quirkiness, so we'll keep them as-is for now.

I am confident you have the wrong accessories with everyone in this picture. The Mariachi should have the guitar -- duh! -- the guy with the hat should have the snowboard, and the woman most DEFINITELY just licked that blue toad/lizard.
