    I just picked this up and I'm very impressed with it. I got a discount at the LEGO store too since the box was damaged.

    Just built the first floor of the Town Hall and a couple of observations...

    - The dark green 1x1 bricks with a grab handle are a noticeably different shade to the normal 1x1 dark green bricks (also in the TH set), also they dont have a 'Lego' stud on top, instead it is hollow and doesnt say Lego on, and the plastic looks cheaper. Is this the first Chinese made actual brick?
    - I had about 10 bricks missing - I'm wondering if anyone else had this at the end of the '1' bags and maybe some bricks are in the wrong bags?
    We also had a lot of missing pieces on this set as previously mentioned in a thread about missing pieces. When I called customer service to order them they asked for the number from one of the pieces of sealing tape. They can apparently get a batch number from it.

    Keeping with the era of the buildings produced to date I'd like to see a hardware/general mercantile store next.

    ^ Which is, ironically, a deisgn originally designed by Jamie Berard but then reverse engineered by someone else who saw it and then made the instructions for it...

    That town hall is definitely cool. Love the fact that it actually has a bathroom. It is also on a 48x48 foot print which allows for so much more.

    So is that seriously Jamie's original Town Hall design? If so, then it's a lot neater than the final design Lego released. The Town Hall seems to be lacking Jamie's signature style and looks like it was designed by a committee.

    Well, it's also a lot bigger than the what LEGO released. Final released products have to hit price points that force the designers to make tradeoffs and sacrifices, that's just the way it is.

    Don't doubt for a second that LEGO designers could put out seriously impressive designs rivaling most any MOCs where they not constrained by the realities of the business aspects, as JB's TH design shows.

    This could have been half as deep and still been much more impressive than what was released, and hit the price point too.

    ^ yeah, there was definitely an inside vs. outside component on this. LEGO seemed to opt for a bigger, more detailed interior. Not saying I agree with the choice, but that seems to be what happened possibly.

    Personally I'd rather them spend more on the exterior than the interior. We can always add furniture in the future if we want to, but it's more difficult to modify the exterior.

    Keep in mind that it isn't just size, but the parts are not the same. The MOC has so many complex and expensive parts that it would have cost more to make.

    All that glass, those pillars, etc. are probably more expensive than the basic bricks in the released TH.

    I would imagine that Lego has an internal "price" on each brick that they charge themselves so when they make a set, they have to justify each part in it. They need enough cheaper parts to make the part count high enough to seem like a "good deal", yet still make them money.

    Just thinking out loud anyway...

    Jamie Berard was not the designer this year all he did was the mini-modulars.

    ^ he's referring to the ebay link modular not the one LEGO actually released.

    To me some of LEGO designs have been lacking. Im not impressed with town hall at all and on the FB I hate the grey section between the first and second floor, just doesn't look right to me at all. I also hate how the falling waters looks. Im not sure who decided that the landscape should be the same color as the house. Alot of little things to, sometimes when I'm building I just say really? This is your best decision. Anbody else hate the open staircases to?

    Pet Shop is not impressing me as much as FB or GE did, the "pair" of buildings I think take something away from the whole, much as MMV is less for being two small buildings rather than one big one.

    So I for one am looking forward to building TH, the largest modular building yet and clearly a "single" building unlike PS. Don't get me wrong, PS is very cute in places, but the townhouse is clearly the poor relation there, and the interior is quite a disappointment there. (the painter is cute, but really, that is about it over there).

    Mileage varies, of course, but I love that the building has the same the colour as the landscape. After all, "Fallingwater is both integrated into the landscape and designed to echo the shapes of the landscape where it is nestled."

    I've been there several times, all seasons actually, the color of the house looks nothing like surrounding landsape. The stone work, yes, but that's not even close to the same color of the real thing.

    just in the process of building this set now and i have to say i love how it looks. Only real oddity i have found is why the mayor has a toad on his desk bit of unusual desktop item.

    Does anyone use paperweights anymore. I mean, is there really a need to secure your papers to your desk with a weight? Are there strong winds inside the office? Unless his desk is on top of a tractor trailor or I see no need...lol

    I think he just really likes frogs. Why not? He probably bought it over at the Pet Shop (note the frog decoration over the door of the Pet Shop). He probably bought the one next to the yellow frog on the shelf.

    The Pet Shop is ok. I actually like the Brownstone better. I'm planning on getting a few of these sets and stringing the Brownstones together to make a block of residential buildings. I'm just going to make some changes here and there so they look somewhat different than each other.

    I haven't bought the Town Hall yet, but I'm building a bank MOC that will look very similar to TH. TH will be around for awhile so I'm waiting on that.
