I wasn't holding my breath... But I'm happy that the aquarium actually made it through.

Someone talk me in or out of the bowling alley. Bowling has been part of my family for years. I'm totally on the fence.

If you don’t get it within the next 30 days, you’ll probably never be able to get one (unless you’re willing to pay ridiculous aftermarket prices for it).

I ended up going for the Lego store modular. I wasn’t that hot on it, but then I thought about modding it and it seemed worth it. The link from BL wasn’t working initially, so thank you to @FireFox31 for the direct links :)

I'm doing the same @Russell844... that bowling alley has been calling my name since it was first announced... but I'm having an incredibly difficult time even attempting to justify the $230 price tag.

I ordered the Venetian Houses. It's the only one I was at all interested in.

Better to regret something you did than something you didn't!

I think you've made the right choice. Beautiful inside and out and will look great with the modulars. And not looking like it's out of Land of the Giants or scaled for the old technic figures like the Lego store is.

How do stickers/prints work on these things? I'm just wondering how the 6x6 Lego logo at the top of the Lego modular will work. I'd assume not a print. But would it be a normal Lego-quality sticker?
  • daewoodaewoo Member Posts: 850
Agreed- I really wanted to like the Lego Store but it was not up to modular standards-  I may have a go at MOCing my own sometime...

I already have my own that I built...and will probably refine again, so no interest for me.

Who would have thought that LEGO fans would want a LEGO store set. Obviously not LEGO. Imagine how many they could have sold if they had had that idea. A large building set that advertises their own company and is on the shelves in LEGO stores and online for multiple years tempting people to buy it.

TLG has such a set on the shelves: #40305 LEGO Brand Store has been available to buy since 2018.

Sure, it is not modular sized, but it is a Lego Store you can buy nonetheless.

I really wanted the Seasons in Time set as well (I supported it) but the cost came as a shock. I should have realized that it would be expensive judging from the number of pieces. I sat on the fence and agonized over whether to buy it and just like that the ABS gods took the decision out of my hands.

I really wish the designer had found a way to drop its size a little so that it was more like $175. I think $250 was just too expensive for most people who considered the set, myself included.

Yes, they have that 8+ child's set. But didn't catch in that AFOL's would want something aimed at them.

Well said.  The Bowling Alley is really well scaled and has a perfect density of minifigure-scale objects.  The 2020 Lego Modular Bookshop seemed so sparse with only a few books on the shelf.  Yet the Bowling Alley has everything a real bowling alley should and in the correct quantities (numbers of lanes, arcade games, dining seats, etc).  If only it were priced like an official Modular.
I'm super excited that I'll be getting the Aquarium after all these years, and the Windmill which I didn't know existed until this.
Shame about the Calendar.  That could have been an 18+ set, giving adult non-AFOLs a useful, real world calendar as a means of interesting them in Lego.

    Not anymore.  Sold out.
Lego should take the hint and make a REAL modular version of their stores that's not mostly just one large room and one single floor.

Caved and got the bowling alley.  If I decide I don't want it by the time it arrives, I'm sure I can easily make my money back by selling it.

Too many official sets I still want to get.  None of the funded ones are spectacular enough for me to divert funds toward.  There are at least 3 in the next round I'll be interested in so maybe next time.

This is what I tell myself to justify the purchases, but I somehow feel like I'll end up building everything I ordered in the end.

They way they work this with pre orders means you get about six months to decide if you want it anyway.

But like most exclusive sets, if you don't want it later on then chances are you are better off accepting it and selling it than cancelling the order nearer the time.

I'm definitely on the fence with a couple of this round's sets, especially the Venetian Houses and the Aquarium. The Modular Lego Store just looks horribly out of scale, as many have pointed out before, so was of no interest.
Realistically though, I will probably only push the button on the Aquarium, as I have my eye on a couple of sets in the next round, specifically the Working Waterfall and the Mountain View Observatory.
I would normally have been all over the Classic Space-inspired Space Troopers set, but it just doesn't look related to what has gone before. A hard pass for me.
I think the next round is going to be fairly brutal, with some really great sets missing out on funding.

A bit off topic, but I personally would pay a premium for the highly detailed "Steampunk Explorers" (https://ideas.lego.com/projects/05b47ad9-0b92-493d-a65c-83eb9990e483) that just passed the 10k vote mark.

There are so many details and nothing else really like it before.

Edit: I'm not affiliated with the builder or project.  Just like the model.

So I thought I'd ordered the fishing boat from round one and paid with PayPal. I noticed last night that my order for the bowling alley shows up on in my "orders" section of the Lego website. I don't see any outstanding order for the boat though. Does anyone have any suggestions to work out if I did order the boat or not? Do other people have round one showing in the morning Lego.com orders.

I don't think it'll be the end of the world of I lose the order. It was more of a buy it and one day just get surprised when it turns up at my door.

^Your comment made me wonder when will the sets from round 1 actually start shipping.

We aim to ship orders that were placed between July 1st – August 2nd 2021 in January 2022.

Orders placed during the additional pre-ordering period between August 3rd – August 31st 2021 will be shipped in June 2022.

Looks like you missed having yours shipped in Jan, by 3 days!

If they are actually able to meet the January shipping date I will be very pleased. I looked back at my orders and was a little bit surprised. I knew I had ordered the castle but I forgotten that I had ordered Pursuit of Flight and the Safe as well! Those will be nice bonuses for the new year…

What do you mean by general fans of it. If they weren't willing to support it / order it / put their money where their mouth is when it was offered as a possibility,  why would lego listen to them now? There were five more popular sets in this round.
    Yeah, really.

Anyone else had their order cancelled ? Mine was for 1 x Modular store and 1 x science adventures.. I appreciate the science didn't make it - but the entire order is now showing as cancelled.

Good old LEGO's crazy order system strikes again! I'd contact CS to check if the order is cancelled, and reinstate the part of the order for the Lego Store it if it is.

One of my orders was cancelled - "SKU: 6398252" with an order value of £219.99. I assume it's the Ruined House <sob>. All the others are still "In process".

    Definitely give them a call.

thanks. I timed out on webchat. i.e. they clocked off before I made it to the front of the line. i'll pick it up again in the morning as may not have time to actually call.. I had one order with both in so that may be the issue i.e. one needs to be cancelled but not both SKU.

Wait, do you guys buy multiple sets in one transaction? I've been buying each set separately so far, because every link I click on brings me to the LEGO site, and I just check out from there.

No hope of ever getting these in Australia. :( Shame. What happened to the train station, did it ever go into production?
