Close! And a really good idea. But my goal is to have a very diverse collection of shipping containers for my Maersk trains. So far I have white, lbg, dbg, black, lavender, brown, dark red, red, blue, sand blue, dark green, tan, pink, yellow, purple, olive green, teal, and aqua. (This includes containers made with the 1*6*5 container panels as well as 1*2 with groove design from the trains)

@Huw I tried to use to the advanced querie builder on the site to find out how popular the Minecraft theme is when compared to other themes on BS like Star Wars, City etcetera. But I couldn't get an answer.
If you would be able to make a list of sets from most owned to least owned, sorted by theme, what would be the result?
Are Minecraft set owners somewhere on the bottom of that list? Very curious....

Next years set names have leaked thanks to retailer Brickmerge:

    21177 Creeper Ambush $10
    21178 The Fox Lodge $20
    21179 The Mushroom House $20
    21180 The Guardian Duel $20
    21181 The Rabbit Ranch $30
    21183 The Training Ground $60

So it looks like the Minecraft team is making some of the rarer and expensive mobs available for significantly cheaper. I am very happy to see rabbits return after missing out on them. If they include axolotls in 21180 that will definitely be a bestseller.

    Thanks for that, @Waterjedi17!
The price points are all very low, so it will be interesting to see what each comprises. I'm struggling to see what kind of "Lodge" or "House" you could get for $20, or even "Ranch" for $30.

Nice! I think I can see:

    #21171 The Horse Stable
    #21165 The Bee Farm
    #21158 The Panda Nursery
    #21133 The Witch Hut
    #21129 The Mushroom Island
    #21121 The Desert Outpost
    #21115 The First Night
    #21114 The Farm

I think that's the main sets that I can see. Anything missed?

^Very good! And some self made fillers. The Panda Nursery has yet to be connected and I'm planning to add #21159 The Pillager Outpost and #21146 The Skeleton Attack, but I still have to Bricklink the last one. :-)

Does anyone have any information about the new Lego Minecraft Magazine? The poly bag from the cover has just appeared in the Brickset data base. #662101
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
Hi @Seriata, I was only able to find the following article about a Lego Minecraft magazine, both of which were posted in August:

    http://bricksfanz.com/lego-minecraft-magazine-coming-soon/
    https://www.thebrickpost.com/news/lego-minecraft-magazine-on-its-way/

For purely personal reasons, I do hope this is a one-off, as I'll find it difficult keeping up with all the polybags, for theme completeness' sake!

Apparently, 8 Brickset members own this polybag (#662101). Anyone here care to add any more details?

I found some more details on Bricksfanz' website:

As I revealed a number of weeks ago, LEGO Minicraft will be joining the LEGO Magazines line-up. There will be a one-off issue available in December before the magazine becomes a permanent addition to the range in 2022.

I didn't even know this existed!
A duvet cover printed on both sides.
I'm really tempted - if only for the left picture that promises a fathomless deep sleep, something that I am unfortunately not experiencing at the moment due to new medicines...

It's out now, at least in my country. The magazine is quite nice with great artwork.

The first 'polybag' has a regular Steve, a Zombie and a pig (minepig03 in Bricklink nomenclature). Steve has a stone sword and a whip with carrot.
The next issue (planned for Jan, 2021) has a skeleton and a TNT launcher. So far nothing new, but let's hope more (and other) animals and figures from the Minecraft world will follow.
I've bought a couple more for reselling in my Bricklink/Brick Owl store for those who aren't able to buy it in their own country.

Thanks for the info, @Brickfan50. I'll try to pick this up, purely for completion-sake, if or when it arrives in the UK. An extra zombie and pig isn't the most exciting thing ever, but I'm not going to complain too much! ;-)

As per the front page, the new wave of sets have been announced officially and pics are up on Brickset: https://brickset.com/sets/year-2022/theme-Minecraft

I do like the look of all the sets and will, of course, be getting them all, but a couple of comments on each:

#21177 Creeper Ambush - No idea what that Creeper is meant to be! It's not a Dungeons-branded set, so your guess is as good as mine!
#21178 The Fox Lodge - Baby Fox, Snow Fox, a Fox-themed player skin, a map and another Drowned. All nice.
#21179 The Mushroom House - Nothing too exciting here. The spider has an attachment for a Skeleton Jockey.
#21180 The Guardian Duel - Probably my favourite set from the wave. Elder Guardian, Guardian, 3 different-coloured Axolotls! Plus a new Glow Squid and a player skin. I really like this set.
#21181 The Rabbit Ranch - The Sunflowers are nice, plus another player skin.
#21183 The Training Ground - A very "Ninja"-inspired set, with 2 player skins, a "dojo", some nice trees and foliage and a bat.

They do seem to be keen on these animal-themed "player-built" structures! By my totting up we have ones themed as follows:

    Fox
    Rabbit
    Pig
    Sheep
    Creeper
    Chicken

I wonder what they'll do next! A Cow, Wolf, Horse? Or another monster-related one?

I love all the animal themed buildings, to be honest.  They're just so Minecraft.

Also, I think the creeper in #21177 is supposed to be in the middle of exploding, which would make sense as an ambush in the set.

@veyniac And we're all excited to see what you come up with! :-)

It definitely looks as if you're going for a Lush Cave biome here, with the Spore Blossom, Cave Vines, Dripleaf plants etc. I'll expect to see an Azalea Tree on the surface soon. Can't wait to see the end result, as I've really enjoyed your previous MOCs and have built most of them so far. :-)

Very nice @veyniac! Some of my favourite Minecraft sets are those that feature a "slice" through the world, starting with some ground and going down. I always have #21147 The Bedrock Adventures on display in its "tall" configuration because of this.
I've already created a BL wanted list and will try to get round to getting the parts and building this in the New Year at some point.

Today I built the second largest Minecraft set so far, #21128 The Village. Got most of the parts from my own inventory, my BL store and five additional BL orders.
For now I skipped two of the villagers, min029 and min030. The average sale price on BL for those is € 32 and € 64! That's way more than I want to pay for it.

I'm awaiting one more BL order to finish off the blacksmith and pigs.
What I really like about this set is the overall size and the large buildings that can be folded out. I also think it's the first time I saw chairs and tables in a Minecraft set, presented by stairs, fence and trapdoor blocks from the game. Well, their equivalent in LEGO.
Something else I would like to note is that with the release of the 2022 sets TLG made a switch to no longer make fully enclosed Minecraft buildings/houses. The Fox Lodge #21178 and the Mushroom House #21179 have an open back, just like Friends or City sets... very annoying.
I really can't understand why that change has been made. All previous Minecraft sets with buildings were either foldable by hinges or had removable roofs so you could see what's inside.

Yes, The Village is an excellent set! At the risk of a small amount of shameless self-promotion, I reviewed this set for BS when it came out: https://brickset.com/article/21347/review-21128-the-village

Regarding the Mushroom House and Fox Lodge not having backs, I can't comment from a place of authority about the Fox Lodge, though from pictures it definitely looks like it only has three sides and is open, but I do have the Mushroom House and it is definitely enclosed all the way round. I am with you and am a little disappointed with this development.

Edited to add: It looks as if #21181 The Rabbit Ranch and #21183 The Training Grounds are also open at the back. Boo!!

@JudgeChuck Good review! In one of your own comments below the review you said (and this was in 2016!):
"I'll be honest and say that I don't see an extended lifespan for the Minecraft theme, simply due to the difficulty of coming up with varied, but discrete, sets for very much longer. I can certainly envisage a number of other sets that would be great, but it's not going to have the legs of Star Wars, for example."
Well, almost 6 years have passed since your comment. And just like Star Wars' X-Wings their will be another Iron Golem / Cave / Village or Nether Portal every other year or so.
What we need perhaps are other designers who come up with more true-to-the-game  designs => less doll house designs.
Also: more savannah / jungle biomes please.
The very best thing LEGO could do is introducing a new BURP.
    Unlike the standard BURP
the new Minecraft BURP should have 2xX studs in all places instead of 1xX studs. I'll try to make one in Ldraw and upload it later.

@Brickfan50 Wow! I didn't realise it had been quite that long! I did re-read the review and also noticed that comment I made! I make no claim to be prescient! ;-)
With the amount of additional content being added into the core game, I'm sure we're going to have a few more years for the theme! :-)

I have been very pleasantly surprised by where Lego have taken the Minecraft theme overall, with a few minor caveats:
    • I do still prefer sets to be lifted up by a brick, rather than on  just a flat plate. I think it gave the sets a very distinctive look. I get why they have moved away from doing so, likely due to them being rather "wasted" parts. It's no major hassle to add a few 2x2 and 2x4 bricks myself, so no biggie...
    • Agreeing with what you perhaps alluded to above, I'm still not 100% taken by the sheer number of "mob houses" that we have got, with more to come, I am sure! They are all very nice, but we'll end up with a whole village of the damn things! ;-)
    • The recent trend for "backless" buildings is also a shame.
I'm not 100% sure about your "Minecraft BURP" idea, but would certainly help with building larger mountains and the like, so I wouldn't be totally averse to one!

Here are my two Minecraft BURP's: the MBurp1 and MBurp2. I made them with bricks of course but in real they should be made the same way as standard BURP's and LURP's.
The MBurp's can be used in multiple ways. The small one is designed to support a second (top) layer of Mburp1's. Three of both combined with a couple of bricks and jumper tiles and you already have a large mountain scene.

    And here we are @veyniac:

I really enjoyed this one! Nice and colourful, lots of different elements. I especially like the Cave Vines with Glow Berries and the Spore Blossom. Other new elements you can see are Small and Large Dripleaves, Moss Blocks and Azalea Bushes. On the surface is an Azalea Tree.

My only slight criticisms are: Firstly, that the Azalea Tree should have a lot more flowers in it (https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Azalea_tree). It's far too green! I'll probably add some more flower blocks into it myself at some point. Secondly, there are a couple of semi-loose ore blocks which, to keep in line with usual practise, should be on 2x2 jumpers, to allow them to be more easily "mined". I have already made that very tiny modification. As I say, really small criticisms of a really great-looking MOC! Thanks @veyniac!

Just a quick couple of comments regarding the theme...

Firstly, I picked up #21183 The Training Grounds the other day and, I have to say, I far prefer your version @veyniac of the Azalea Tree (lack of flowers notwithstanding!) and, especially, your Cave Vines with Glow Berries. I think your Azalea Bushes are also better.
The leaf part that you used isn't a staple of the Minecraft theme, so makes sense that TLG went with a simpler-looking build, I suppose.
Secondly, I picked up a rather nice little polybag from eBay, #30432 The Turtle Beach, which I hadn't seen before. A cheap way to get another Turtle and some Turtle Eggs.
I'm waiting for the Lego Minecraft magazine to make it to the UK, so that I can grab #662102 TNT Launcher and Skeleton.

It looks like some new Lego Minecraft sets are on their way:

#21184 The Bakery - Love the new Goat, "Baker" and Player skin. Also, is that a new piece for a loaf of Bread?
#21185 The Nether Bastion - A nice bit of Nether scenery, with a new Piglin, some Netherite ingots, Netherite items, a new Strider and a Magma Cube. Plus a new Player skin.
#21186 The Ice Castle - Another two new Player skins (these seem to be coming thick and fast!) a Shield and an interesting-looking structure. Will need to see more pics to make out more details.
#21188 The Llama Village - The Llama structure does look really impressive, but how many player-built structures of this size do we need? We also get some new Villagers, Illagers / Pillagers, two Llamas a pink Baby Sheep and another two Player skins. Also a Well and a couple of other small side-builds.

They all look great, but I am starting to get a little disappointed that the largest sets that we are getting from Minecraft are now a high percentage "player-built" structures, which don't add very much to the modularity of the sets overall. It strikes me that the designers are running out of ideas! I do like them but, perhaps, not quite so many!
    BumblepantsBrickfan50
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
    Addendum:

#21185 The Nether Bastion - The new Piglin looks like it is a Piglin Brute.
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
#21187 The Red Barn has also been announced - Another Player-built structure and, perhaps, a rather simple one. However, this comes with some nice features, such as a Horse, Baby Cow, an understated Player Skin, as well as a new Villager, a Chicken Jockey and a new brick-built Goat, which has a new mould for the head! There also seems to be an action feature on the right-hand side, but the exact function isn't immediately obvious.

Again, I would prefer less Player-built structures overall and more focus on in-game structures and areas that can be used to adventure in, but I guess they are selling well, hence their proliferation. There are any number of areas that TLG could create sets for, that have not yet been produced yet, for example:

    End City
Revisit the Nether Fortress in some way
Buried Treasure - a small set with some sand, a hidden chest and a map, plus some surface detail, for interest
A proper representation of a Pillager Outpost. #21159 The Pillager Outpost had some nice features, but was underwhelming (very) , as a structure.
    Ocean Ruins
    Conduit
    Geode
A proper representation of a Lush Cave, rather than the underwhelming afterthought in #21183 The Training Grounds
    Dripstone Cave

What I do like, overall, is that TLG are definitely bringing us "stuff" from the new game updates, so a thumbs-up from me on that! :-)

Lush caves really do deserve something better than what was in #21183. They'd ideally be the backdrop for a large set focused on the interior of a cave, to best represent their chaotic, sprawling grandeur, and to support the necessary part density and verticality.

It might be cool to combine the ocean ruins with a conduit. Maybe a couple normal ruins and then one ruin the player has rebuilt into a base, with a nearby conduit, kelp farm, etc.

I feel like there's a lack of pine/spruce forest representation, but I might have missed an appearance somewhere. Maybe a couple village houses with mossy boulders and tall pines. There hasn't yet been an abandoned village; that might be an interesting option for a taiga biome.

I guess there hasn't yet been a desert temple or woodland mansion, but the temple might be too plain to be marketable and the mansion would be difficult to do justice at a reasonable size.
    veyniac
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
Yes, agreed with possibly combining an Ocean Ruin with a Conduit; I think that would make a really nice set. As for Spruce Forests, #21142 The Polar Igloo looks to have a representation of a Spruce Tree, as does one of the sub-builds of #21135 The Crafting Box 2.0, but I think that's about it!
Desert Temple / Woodland Mansion sets have been talked about at various times but, as you say, probably wouldn't make great sets for various reasons.
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
I have just noticed that the current wave of sets has a new part representing the chest lid:

This makes the chest look far closer to the in-game representation and is a great change! I'm going to get a ton of these, so that I can replace the lids on all my chests. Does anyone want a load of old lids? ;-)

D*mn you, @veyniac! TWO new MOCs to source parts for and build??!! :-D ;-)

I'm going to have to leave out the Dolphin in the Coral Reef, as the printed eye bricks are just not available from BL in the UK. I'll just re-use the one I have from #21152 Pirate Ship.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the Ancient City. I've never seen one in game but, having checked on the Minecraft Wiki, wow! In the words of Nigel Tufnel, "It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none — none more black." ;-)
