Trying to decide between #7676 and #75021 and "they are way too expensive, just wait 5/10/15 years for another minifig-scale one".
    It's a battle.

I'm in a similar dilemma with my need for a minifig scale AT-ST. I want a "proper" one, so #75254 AT-ST Raider is out. #75201 First Order AT-ST is 100%, definitely out! The #10174 UCS one is really nice, but not minifig scale and most likely really expensive, which leaves me with the ideal #75153 AT-ST Walker, but those are going for upwards of £100 NISB at the moment and, finally, the rumoured new UCS AT-ST is unlikely to meet my requirements, so it looks like I'm in for a wait as well.

@JudgeChuck You could get #75254 and swap out the red and brown parts to grey; depending on what loose parts you have it might not cost much to do so. You could also sell the minifigs.
  • EGRobertsEGRoberts Member Posts: 268
@JudgeChuck if the rumors are true we should have a new AT-ST walker coming to complement the UCS AT-AT coming.. Fingers crossed.. I love echo base so much but my #75098 needs more imperials to actually assault it!
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
@560Heliport I did consider it, but I'd have to replace not only all the brown and red bricks but also, as the model is based on DBG / DSG, I'd have to replace most of that with LSG / LBG as well, to make it more OT.
It is a nice model though.

@EGRoberts It rather depends on whether it is minifig scale or not. If it is, I'll be all over it! As I said, if it's UCS-related, it won't be for me, however awesome it is.
I realise that I said "rumoured new UCS AT-ST" above, which is probably incorrect, if it is just to "complement" the new UCS AT-AT.

Re: Assault on Hoth, I'm probably one of the few people (along with you!) who quite likes the set! I don't have it, but definitely considered it.
When it came out, and even now, I don't have a large Lego Star Wars collection, so it would have filled a gap nicely with all the Rebel troops, Tauntaun, Wampa etc.

My status: 2 Samuel, still working through Romans, praising my God that He woke me up this morning. LEGO status: Thinking about space, wondering why 4 48x48 baseplates equals 6 feet, wondering why 4 feet wide isn't as easy. Is there a way to get around cutting? It seems to be 2(48x48), then a 32x32, then still 4 studs give or take? I want to mount my track directly on the plates, then get the scenery up, buildings, Ark, etc. How do you WVers, (@Switchfoot55) deal with it when we only have white 3x2x32s?

Does anybody remember the Stranger Things teaser, which has been revealed by LEGO a few months ago? It’s been very quiet about that isn’t it?

I also love castle! Friday I drove to Milwaukee and picked up these two sets. I have wanted to own these two sets for a very long time. They are not sealed but the boxes are in amazing shape for cardboard from 1984. I will definitely post some pictures when I get them assembled
    because they are so cool!

Sooo jealous!! 2 of my favorite sets right there.. Now you need kings mountain fortress and black monarchs castle.. I myself need all of them still =(  😂

I don’t have it yet but maybe. Hedwig  is amazing but none of the other accessories do much for me. The golden anniversary figures are also a huge draw for me, but then I would have to get them all. Would be interested to see how you decide to display them all.

Getting in early for Christmas and buying my SW advent calendar. I had an Argos voucher so it cost me nothing. Local branch was already virtually out of stock!
As this one was free I might buy the Marvel one just for festive Iron-man
Used LEGO's email alert system for out of stock sets for the first time and got notification that the Marvel calendar was back in, so its currently winging its way to me as well.

They will probably just be along the front of a shelf with either books or Lego builds behind it although it might be appropriate to rearrange my bookshelves so that they could be in front of my Harry Potter books. I'll have to think about this!

I wish I could say I come bearing presents, alas, only questions. I hope the below picture is clear, but when covering a board with baseplates,  I presume most go for the economical approach. We think this is a 4x5 board, but we also don't want to be too parts intensive, and costly. Without cutting, how should I fill in the empty spaces(occupied by black 6x16 plates) I'm going for edge to edge studs to put scenery onto, Pooh's House, Disney Castle, Disney Train and Station, and the IDEAS Treehouse, to hopefully provide a nice photo backdrop for my builds.

Before you build your stuff, I'd replace the baseplates with the thicker plates they use nowadays.  It'll be much easier to put official sets down (if you cared for some of their City stuff), plus you'll be able to use their new road plate system.

Out of curiosity, why are the 16x16s better? Won't it be just the same for the roadplates on the old plates? I'm trying to use what I have, and would switch if necessary, but would like to use what's here... Can the roadplates attach to the old plates? I'm not sure that I understand  why the extra thickness is better. The track will be secured on top of plates onto the baseplates or 16x16s.

Their new road plate system is not compatible with old thinner baseplates.  You could always do two layers: one of old thinner baseplates, and then one layer with the new standard plates with the new road plates, but then your first layer is a bit redundant.

Entirely up to you, but I personally really like the new road plates, even if they are a tad expensive.  If you plan ahead and build your modulars or other sets on standard plates, they become super easy to attach and have a more solid and lego look than the old printed baseplates.  And since you're still in the early planning stages, I thought it was worth telling you before structures appear in your setup!

Thank you for the advice! I was concerned, because as we all know, LEGO isn't cheap. I may have to try using both for that reason, and I did buy one road baseplate,(Mater needs roads...) Not sure yet. The 16x16s are kind of expensive to cover the whole thing, just to put track and scenery over them...Hence the struggle.

Oh I absolutely agree that they are expensive.  I bought a bunch to put underneath my modulars, and I'm certain they'll be releasing bigger than 16x16 in the future if this becomes their standard plates (16x32 would be great and sturdy).  And likewise, the new road plates are certainly not given, but they have a strong wow factor.  People have been complaining that there are no curving pieces, but I'm sure that'll be coming down the road as they push for those plates to be part of city sets.  And meanwhile, for a city, straight roads still works great.

Oh, I hope so! I too would like curves. I know the cars would mostly have to be pushed, but I'd love a track for Speed Champions!

Saw this at Meijer. Unsure which is sillier, a $30 set with a security lock on it, or a $30 set with only 88 pieces?

(Yes I get that the 4+ truck body elements are likely costly to produce, but Come. On.)

I am currently going through and disassembling/cleaning/rebuilding my winter village sets. Right now I am rebuilding the post office and found this imposter amongst the parts. I got the set used about 7 years ago and somehow missed it the first time I built it.
I bought my Green Grocer secondhand, and found a couple of off-brand plates in the roof. Thankfully the rest of it is genuine but it freaked me out a little.

I've got a pending move coming up fast so ive been disassembling sets. I noticed that the brick bank had a good amount of LBG parts that cracked. it's only been build once. but lots of the 1x2x2 snot blocks and headlight bricks are cracked. Started on the Disney train station and have several cracked bricks there too. kinda frustrating.
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,485
Sorry to hear that @panchox1, that has to be really frustrating! Best wishes with the disassembly and subsequent customer service conversation.
  • PhoenixioPhoenixio Member Posts: 352
As a physicist, I'm not exactly surprised that bricks crack.  Actually, I thought it was the norm.  Otherwise you have such little wiggle room in the softness of the material, and things won't latch properly.  Since you want something under tension so that it holds, it's normal that the material would crack, especially if it's under sunlight or other forms of stressors that weaken the material.

That being said, it is quite unfortunate.  I had to destroy all my modulars as well for a move, and I'm a bit stressed to find out if they'll hold together well when I rebuild them.  I noticed at least one or two brown/red bricks break as I was taking them apart, so for sure there's some damage here and there.

As these parts are man-made in a fallen world they aren't perfect. We see this in our own bodies, and can praise God we aren't brittle Reddish Brown,(or other brittle colors like LBG...) (Am I sure I'm somehow not a pastor? That sounded pastor like.))
Anyway...LEGO status! Working more on the layout!

I was just thinking about how Lego never did a follow up to Elves of any kind. Apart from the disastrous IP of superhero girls, they have just carried on with Friends and Disney and done nothing really to innovate in the minidoll space. Seems like a missed opportunity.

I am waiting for a Bricklink order. The whole order processed a little strangely so I’m slightly worried, but also pretty sure it’ll work out. Ordered an expensive retired set ($500), and Bricklink had me pay via PayPal before I could complete the order, even though I know the shipping amount was wrong. I expected to place the order, get an invoice, pay the invoice. I’ve  Haven’t heard anything from the seller after 3 days, even though they say they invoice within 24 hours.

It’ll work out. I’m sure the seller is just on vacation or busy with other stuff. But my status is ever so slightly anxious and just waiting.

Feeling a very small amount more anxious now, but still believe it will work out. I have not heard anything from the seller, but I noticed this morning that their store actually closed to the public the day I placed my order, with the message "CLOSED TO PACK ORDERS". They're probably just busy with more orders than they can handle right now.

I would really like this one to work out because there are only a couple others of this set in the same price range right now, and then there's a big jump.

I thought that too, but recently had a few reddish brown bricks break on me (nothing huge, just a couple of plates from a old Marvel set), and now I worry it could happen anywhere!
And I'm sure our weather up here is not so different from Nottingham!

I have a small pile of broken reddish brown, dark red, and pearl gold pieces. None of my LEGO elements has been exposed to climate extremes.

^I'm in a similar situation. A fairly decent amount of Reddish Brown, Dark Red, and Pearl Gold parts that have broken. My climate is pretty even up or down with very little extreme year round.

I know other's have said it's exposure to sunlight that causes them to go brittle. But, the sets that have been impacted the most have had little to no sunlight exposure where they're displayed.

I have a number of pearl gold telescopes that have broken. To be fair, the base of the telescope is quite thin. I have a ridiculous number of sand green telescopes from the PAB wall, but they look a little odd on #72006 Axl's Rolling Arsenal. :)

Same status as every day since last Thursday... still waiting for any word on my order. Is 5 days long enough to wait before messaging the seller, or is a week more reasonable?
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,485
I think it would depend on what they have written in the Terms section of their store. My last seller said not to message them unless it had been more than 5 days as that was their normal turnaround time. Other sellers may indicate orders will be pulled and shipped with X number of hours.

I usually base my inquiry timeline off whatever the Terms page seems to suggest to be reasonable for that particular store.

I looked back. Their terms page say invoices usually in 12 hours, almost always by 24 hours and try to ship within 3 days of payment. They also send a reminder about the invoice after 3 days if it hasn’t been paid. Since I actually paid on the 23rd, albeit for an amount I expect to be too low because of actual shipping cost, I messaged tonight. If I don’t get a good answer on when they’ll ship the set, I guess I will cancel it and move on the plan b.
