I've been going over Minifigures lately to update my off site list and I've noticed a few curious things.

Several items in Super Mario are not yet attributed to sets, the 'Minifigures' are in the database but are attributed to 0 sets. Despite clearly being the Blind Bag Build-A-Figures.

The DK Books of old, Brickmaster mostly, no longer have Minifigure listings for Castle (Fantasy Era), Pirates, Ninjago or indeed most of the Brickmaster Books with Bricks releases. If they ever had them to begin with. And some of the DK Books with Minifigure Exclusives such as the NEXO Knights Character Encyclopedia have them listed in the database, but attribute them to 0 Sets meaning they are not currently counted in my collection unless I add them manually. (But if they ever get attributed to the sets/books they came with I'd have two then, so I'm holding off on adding them manually until I know if they will never be attributed to sets.)

Certain Themes include Minifigures twice, ones with stickers and ones without or other accessories omitted but attribute them to 0 sets so they don't inflate the count... I suppose that's one reason, I can't understand why Bricklink would list Minfigures by separate codes like that, either you apply the stickers or you don't, but it's still the same basic minifigure. Seems odd for them to do that, but it's nice that we can view them in the database. Just an observation.

Other Minifigures that do this though are mysteries to me, I can't figure out, for example, who or where some of these 0 set Minifigures and Minidolls come from. There's one listing in Disney Princess for a 'Girl' character, seemingly generic, attributed to 0 sets. Who is she, where did she come from? Is it some kind of make-and-take at the parks or something that I never heard about before?

One final observation, did some of these Minfigure Descriptions really go into so much detail before?  It seems LEGO may have been updating details or something over on Bricklink because there is an awful lot of words to describe a Minifigure compared to simply just using a generic name or term. Like Pete and Yve over in Ideas from the Exo-Suit... I seem to recall them only being listed as Pete and Yve before, but now they describe their entire look and then put Pete and Yve in brackets at the end. Just seems like an overly convoluted way to label Minifigures. What is LEGO doing over on Bricklink???

The Super Mario figs should be added overnight. The problem is that BL numbers their blind bags in a different way to us so I have to manually insert data into a cross-reference table.

The DK book issue will be similar, but it seems BrickLink regularly renumbers them and we have no way of automatically knowing when, and what to.  We should sort it, but it's not a priority. If anyone wants to lend a hand, get in touch!

The sticker issue, we can't do much about. Until recently we excluded all figures that occur in 0 sets to hide this problem, but that upset some collectors/completests.

All the 0 set minifigs can be seen here: https://brickset.com/minifigs/excluded.

    Caps lock stuck on?
Also, remember BS and BS Forums have different credentials.

I'm missing the "in x Sets" info which was shown beneath minifig entries in gallery view. Still there in table view. Has something changed?
This was very useful, especially in the set entries.

Running Chrome as my browser. Just recently noticed an issue with filtering sets. For example if I select "sets you own" I get 1043. If I then try and filter to Technic or a particular year, the page looks as though its about to load, but just continues to show the same number of sets. It highlights the filter option (year, theme, etc) and then puts the quantity in brackets at the end.

The word “official” is spelled incorrectly as “offical” anywhere I’ve seen the tag for a “offical brickset review” on product pages.

    I'll get it sorted, thanks.

Very minor point, but #21168 is called "The Wrapped Forest" in the database. Not sure if that's a Lego or BS issue though! :-)

Just noticed that the set ratings have changed quite a bit with the introduction of set ratings by non-reviewers. While supporting a lightweight crowd-scoring algorithm does seem like a good idea, it should probably be weighted in some way to factor in number of ratings, review scores, etc. What I am seeing right now is a proliferation of obscure sets with few reviews and ratings taking the top places as highest rated sets in many categories. Case-in-point, the "Top Rated" set of all time is that the world-renown "MT-201 Ultra-Drill Walker"!

Well, that IS a pretty cool set...but your point is a good one.

I just noticed that the BS page for the Wooden Minifigure #853967 says it is not available or listed at BrickLink, but it is. There are many listings.
  • HuwHuw Brickset Towers, Hampshire, UKAdministrator Posts: 7,015
They have numbered it 853967, us 853967-1. Such discrepancies are a nuisance and while they can be handled are not done so automatically.

In the "Links" for sets, the first link is for Lugnet...but that site hasn't been updated with anything in ten years.  Perhaps it's time to take that link down? The site is still running, but it's an absolute ghost town.

I disagree completely that the links should be removed. I think that linking back to old sites such as Peeron and LUGNet are important from a historical point of view. Perhaps it shouldn't be the first link in the list, but there is still value in having it present.

Brickset isn’t some kind of museum. Clutter that isn’t useful should be cleaned up.

If you want to see a set on an outdated site, go to that site, but there’s no need for these Lugnet links to exist here when most of them don’t even work.

I'm inclined to agree, it's obsolete and irrelevant nowadays.

I'll remove a few others while I'm tidying up. BrickPicker's price guide is dead now, too.

Thank you.  It's been just short of a year and I don't think the picker is coming back.  There has been some dead weight floating around for a while.  That said there is still some reverent information on sites like Peeron and Lugnet.  It might be useful to new members/collectors to have a single historic links pages that mention the past significance of the sites, but explain that they are cyber rotted.

The "knolled" view when browsing parts by color seems to have quit working. I was using this a lot when browsing heads, legs and torsos to identify minifigures, because it allowed displaying hundreds of parts on the screen at once.

I just saw the addition of System, Technic etc back in to this but having them as their own filter is missed.

It was a work in progress yesterday. LEGO has started publishing categories correctly again in its inventories so we can show them once more.

A platform filter in addition to the category one is now available.

I've a problem with the gradient behind comments. In Chrome and Edge, when I scroll, the rendering is a bit like an old TV, with flickering diagonal bands. Firefox does not have the same problem.
Anyone else noticed this? It's been there a while. Updating video drivers hasn't helped.

I'm not sure if this is something I've configured (and if so, how!), but the standard URL for sets is taking me to the PARTS tab. Eg #75305 .
I noticed it in the MyBricks app first, but it seems to be a site issue, rather than the wrong URL in the app.

I believe this is normal behavior. If you last had the “Parts” tab open for a set, then the next set you select will also open on the parts tab. At least I’ve seen it work that way for the “More Images” tab. Just select the “Image” tab manually, then further set selections should come up on that again.

It's sort of by design, but doesn't work quite as it should. It's supposed to remember the tab you looked at for each set, but instead it seems to open whatever that was for every set. It's something I intend to sort out during the next development cycle in the autumn.

I get the use case, and I can understand the current behaviour being wanted. Is there a URL that always goes to the "main" page for each set? Because I noticed this when using MyBricks; that should always go to the main page for the set.

@huw not sure if this is the best place to report it but the images for the Mario bundles aren't right.
Eg #5007060 team up bundle shows the Ultimate bundle. I got very excited, at £99 that would have been quite the bargain!
