I bought three complete boxes of Vidiyo Series 1, 43101, at three different Walmart stores in Arkansas. Each box had two Ice Cream Saxophonists but no Bunny Dancers. Have others had similar problems with Series 1 boxes?
A guy I know had an identical problem in a box.

    I broke down...

These figures have such fantastic printing details! They really are very well produced figures!

    But...
    Here are my big complaints:
    1. The accessories with the bandmates are pretty dull and uninteresting for the most part... A lot of microphones among the lot.
    2. The blind boxes SUUUUUUUUCK!
    3. The prices are just way too high, especially for the beat boxes. It is absolutely not even close to worth full retail price if you're just looking at it from a physical product prospective.
    4. The beat bits are actually quite fun, it's a real shame it's so hard to collect them.

I am looking forward to seeing what the rumored pirate ship set comes out like. It would be nice to be able to make a full band in the theme/genre. These two are the only ones I feel fully fit in theme thus far, though the werewolf almost looks the part of a punk drummer.

Totally agree with everything said.  The printing and figure quality is really off the chart, and the first thoughts that I had as I was opening my set of bandmates was "oh, this is probably a big reason why they cut the number of CMFs in series 21 down to 12 instead of 16."  I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out if some of the ideas/budget/effort that had been directed towards the CMFs before was redirected to Vidiyo given how much the minifigs resemble their own musical CMF series.

Also agree with the complaints.  I also just bought a complete set off Bricklink so I could avoid any of the annoyance that was the blind boxes.  I really don't want to reward LEGO with what I see as a stupid move.  Not a fan of ANY of the 'blind' purchase method collectables, but at least with the bags you did have SOME ability to control what you bought if you wanted to.

The theme ia getting a lot of flak for its price, but I concur, the quality is also over the top.  I've never been so impressed by printings on minifigs.  I'm buying the rest of the theme on day one, and hopefully it comes soon!  I hope they add scenes and instruments, like DJ tables and drums.  It'd be nice to also complete some of the genres.  My favorite right now is Candypop because it's the only one with three bandmates, and they look great together!

The rumored sets for the summer do sound like scenes or "stages" of some sort, and I'll be interested to see how they're built, what kinds of parts they have, and how they interact with the app. It'd be cool if they allowed multiple figures to be scanned at the same time, and maybe even allow the "performance"/video to take place there on the set itself (sort of like how the AR in the Hidden Side theme worked).

Finally bit the bullet & picked up what I was hoping were the 4 figures I really wanted from a box that seemed to be full in Target.  Unfortunately it seems the box was packed in reverse order of the supposed norm.  So now I have 4 figures I really didn't want.  Was able to open 3 of the 4 without ripping or mutilating the boxes & seals so I may return them.

I'm keen to get a couple of the beat boxes for my niece and nephew's upcoming birthday (my nephew especially loves Lego and has patience for things like Stik Bots so I think this theme will be a real hit with him - and I have already planned music gifts so this fits perfect).  My only problem I think is gifting something that is a "collect me" thing - I don't want the gift to become an excuse to bug their mums for more stuff, they have enough of those already!

I think I had the same issue... I grabbed a complete row and ended up with 2 Icecream Dudes ans No Bunny. This was from a Big W Shop  in Australia

I have seven Bandmates, bought one or two at a time, chosen randomly, and have seven different figures and 21 different beatbits! Red Panda Dancer, Banshee Singer, Alien Keytarist, Cotton Candy Cheerleader, Bunny Dancer, Werewolf Drummer, and Sumolego. Er, I mean Samurapper! 😁

Looks like LEGO are trying to take this to the next level.
In the 8 years of owning various kindles, I had my first ever LEGO related advertisement on the lock screen.

It's a shame they don't get the app to work on a basic kid-aimed Amazon Fire tablet then, through the amazon app store. There must be millions of locked down (to amazon app store) Fire tablets in the hands of kids.

Yeah I would consider letting my kids play with this (or Hidden Side etc) if it actually worked on their devices. But I am not giving them my phone to play with as I need it for work etc and for not being dropped on the floor.

I don't use the app at all, and my kids aren't very interested either, but I love the printed tile "albums" (Beatbits I guess).  I find myself dropping another Bandmate in my basket every time I stop at Meijer.  I can't bring myself to pick up the big boxes at full price, $20 is too hard to swallow for one minifig and a bunch of tiles.  If they get marked down I'll probably snag them.

More sets than I was expecting were revealed. I cannot imagine the price of those, if a single beatbox was 20€...
But there are some very cool minifigures.

The prices are in the press release. The largest set - the boombox - is 100 Euro.

I already saw them on the website. My main interest is in the K-Pawp, my girls will love it.
All of the others just have some interesting minifigs. But I guess that's what VIDIYO's all about for an AFOL.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
The prices on those bigger sets looks far more reasonable than there beatboxes and band mates...which is making me thing that the crazy prices on the beatboxes must be tied to the pod elements which is utterly ridiculous when you consider just how many far more affordable pod type sets there have been recently - Friends play cubes, Ninjago Arcade pods, Friends Heart boxes, Ninjago training pods, Friends Character pods, The LEGO Movie 2/LEGO Batman Movie/LEGO Ninjago Movie pods.

Looking at the sets I can see a lot of the obvious AR reading pieces like Hidden Side had. I think the sets are so much better value than the beatboxes that these releases will probably push the beatboxes deep into the discount bins.

there’s a few nice looking figs but obviously far fewer new moulds so definitely doesn’t make the band mates price look good at all.

Too late for an edit but it just occurred to me that it seems a bit daft that none of the music note elements (https://brickset.com/parts/design-65468 ) from the trolls theme have been used in the Vidiyo theme. Maybe all these parts are on a sprue together so they couldn’t use them without the less relevant parts but if that’s the case it seems like poor planning in parts development....

The stages are fantastic.  It looks like there's a spot for all the bandmates of a given style.  The fact that the Boombox can be customized to 4 different types is also fantastic!

I'm glad to see new musical styles as well.  They wouldn't have been able to make a full second wave without adding a few more.  Not that I'm unhappy with more Punk Pirates, Candy Pop and all the other "established" groups already.  But Dragon Metal and Fairy Folk are genious and stray just far enough from what has been done!

Of note, two transclear bear minifigs...   i had never seen parts done like this!   Also, finally another Discoboy, I really liked the first despite him being alone.  The Aztec singer...   is for the tropical theme?  I'm surprised there isn't more support for this theme considering the Llama is the mascot of the theme.  Or maybe that Blue Cheetah guitarist in the Boombox is with him?  And the Genie gets a teammate, maybe, in the form of the Siren?

Anyways, fantastic reveals, I can't wait.  I was a fan from day one, and this wave really delivers.

I love all the new announced VIDIYO sets, particularly the regular boxes playsets.

I have to admit I didn’t think the playsets would actually look that good on the whole - particularly the biggest one that folds down into an approximate 1:1 scale boombox. There is a little bit of repetition of certain elements between the candy stage, K-Pawp stage and Boombox stage, but the robot car and pirate ‘ship’ add intrigue. I think the app is going to offer more functionality with the physical sets here too, more like Hidden Side (which I thought had great interaction if you ignored the battery drain).

Sure there are some obvious swaps in the Bandmates series 2 since series 1, but perhaps the element of the latest release that’s least interesting is the 2 new BeatBoxes. Most of the elements are available in similar form in Bandmates or sets so it’s like they’re just a colour swapped dragon and a colour swapped fairy.

Wave #2 of Vidiyo should have been wave #1. It would have hooked their audiences way better than the overpriced beatboxes!

The figures have kept up (or even surpassed) their coolness and the stages are interesting. With an exception to the new beatboxes, the part value is actually pretty decent and fair for this round. The gummy bear characters (I don't what else to call them) are very fun. My eyes popped at the transparent leg parts! Sadly, the hips aren't transparent. Good news for collectors like me who have an expensive, fully-transparent prototype minifigure, but still. The dragons are very cool too! The more I look, the more cool figures and parts I see. I still think Vidiyo theme is a flop, but like Hidden Side, at least they're introducing more characters and parts.

There's three minifigures I'm seriously after: the Boombox Alien, Slime Singer, and the Squid Drummer. Honestly, if all I got was the Boombox Alien I would be happy.

I thought that the DJ Alien and the Alien Keytarist were cool... and they still are, in a way... but they fall short of the new figures in my opinion.

I hope wave two is packed the same way as wave one, with a full set on each side of the box. I'd buy 'em if so.

The gummy bears (haha, love that name) and dragon characters are all very fun. But I'll surely just limit myself to the pirate genre for this series. For series 1, the only bandmate figure I kept other than the shark singer was the Ice Cream guy. If they weren't so overpriced, I could definitely see myself picking up the Metal Dragon as well.

So I just passed through two stores, including a Walmart with usually full shelves, and I saw a total of 4 beatboxes: two Punk Pirates and two K-Pawp.  No sign of anything else on the shelves, not even bandmates left.

For a sign supposedly flopping with barely touched shelves, that's not what I expected to see...  Maybe the announcement of wave 2 got people to buy en-masse?   Either way, I'm quite happy, I love this theme.

After warming shelves, VIDIYO is now getting discounted by 25% in several places around here. Still not enough to get me to buy those beatboxes.

Just read that the 'core' wave 2 beatbits are the same as wave 1. Just the 'character' beatbits are unique.

Guess this will mean the core ones will drop in price on the secondary market once wave 2 hits once people end up with multiples.

That was what I was expecting - all the product images have shown the same ‘generic’ BeatBits in every set. I was missing a good handful so hopefully I won’t have any missing after the summer wave.

I happened upon a freshly opened Series 1 box today, and its layout was not at all what Stone Wars originally reported, so I now have several duplicates.

When Series 2 is released, I’m just going to buy one whole side of the box to guarantee I get all 12 with no dupes.

It could be that some stores mix them up as well if for them it's all about the randomness.  The best bet is to buy a full box and sell the second set, even if opened.

I'm surprised there haven't been comments at all about the new sets on here.  It's looking like their popularity is more North American, but since the whole world got them 2 months earlier, I expected some comments on the Boombox or the quality of the figures overall!

Here in Belgium, we rarely get discounts on LEGO over 15%, but the new sets with the stages are already at 20% off in some places and I’ve seen the boom boxes (the old AND the new) at 40%, which almost never happens... I gues that says a lot about its popularity here.
  • PhoenixioPhoenixio Member Posts: 315
Yeah no surprise, I'm looking at a potential import and I found some really good prices on some stores already.  Even with currency conversion and shipping, I might save some money AND get them a couple of weeks early (which helps with an imminent move).
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
I picked up a couple of the beatboxes yesterday at around 60% off which feels much better value. Given that the more standard looking sets look to have a more normal looking rrp I can’t help but feel that the specialised pod parts are the source of the insane rrp for the beatboxes which is crazy when you consider all the other pod based sets that have been better priced recently

I think the new more ‘regular’ VIDIYO sets look fantastic - I just decided that I couldn’t buy all of wave 2 immediately. I expect I’ll still get around to buying them all.

I’ve just been constructing the Punk Pirate Ship and it’s surprising just how much detail and strong layered building goes into it. The ship feels relatively small for the price of the set but nothing at all as overvalued as the Beatboxes. It’s not that obvious from the initial box art but there is a VIP ‘backstage’ area at the ‘aft’ of the ship that opens up for the pirates to have a merry drink and jam to some more tunes. I was quite lucky also that I got 2 new generic BeatBits from Wave 1 I didn’t already have before, plus the exclusive pirate ones. I think the latter would make good joke paintings in a Captain’s cabin.

The minifigures in the Punk Pirate ship are some of the best I’ve seen in the last few years. Loads of tattoo arm printing, mega detailed punk jacket torsos and of course the squid head drummer. I’m going to add the Peg Leg Pirate and Teal Shark from the first wave to the Punk Pirate Ship in due course!

I've built all the stages and wow, lots of care and details.  You really get the feeling they went for unique stage decorations as per the styles parodied.  All the minifigs are fantastic, there's backstage details for all the stages, and you can even swap out the bigger "dots" art pieces for those of the beatboxes, especially on the bigger more neutral boombox stage, to make a customized show for whichever group.

There's a lot of good stuff in there, enough to make a full modular with bits and pieces from all of them.  I'll certainly give it a shot once I'm done moving.

I went and asked the Lego employees in my local Lego store, and they confirmed that everything that has been announced and should have been released this year should still make it to the shelves.  It's the stuff that was planned for 2022 that has been put in doubt and will be redesigned, and they highlighted that it was mostly for the app, so that's what they're pausing for.

So that means Bandmates Series 2 should be a thing, with whatever else was supposed to happen at the same time (which may or may not be a thing).  I assume those of you who know the typical release schedule of waves will know what that means, and those privy to more information about the sets will know which ones will make it and which won't.

My first paragraph should have been clear enough!

In the second, I'm making reference to the fact that the common of mortal doesn't have the same level of knowledge as official Lego media, and as those who have access to toy fairs.  So there could be new sets beyond just the Bandmates Series 2 that those people have seen, that I have no knowledge about.  The employees were very careful in their choice of words about the stuff releasing this year.  So their wording doesn't make sense to me (only Bandmates Series 2 were announced to my knowledge), but by now stores are probably preparing and ordering their Fall sets which could include more.

So my VIDIYO collection is coming along nicely - with the boxed sets, Beatboxes and Bandmates Series 1 complete, many at a discount, I just took delivery of 20 of the Bandmates Series 2 today, ordered online direct from TLG.

I knew at least 8 of them would be duplicates and that would be only the perfect scenario, so I was still pleasantly surprised that 10 of the minifigs were unique including almost all of my desirables:
    • Alien Dancer (with Yoda’s lightsabre blades)
    • DJ Rasp-Beary (love the dual trans head)
    • Dragon Guitarist (a great contrast to the metal dragon)
    • Karaoke Mermaid (RIP separate Samurap stage)
    • DJ Captain (the final member of me punky pirate crew)
    • Puppy Singer (annoying that one K-Pawp stage position lays empty)
    • DJ Beatbox (that custom head is where it’s at)
    • Slime Singer (pleasantly surprised at the regular minifig head under the slime)
    • Carnival Dancer (perfect other half for the Carnival Diva CMF)
    • Zombie Dancer (the cassette is a nice touch)
I’m missing the Vampire Bassist and Discowgirl Guitarist but I’m sure I’ll find them somewhere along the way. I found it quite entertaining that I have 5 spare Rasp-Bearys and only really one spare of a handful of others.

My Beatbit tile collection is also extremely close to completion. I need to triple check again at some stage but apart from the Vampire & Cowgirl exclusive tiles, I believe I only have one other tile missing from the collection - a Retro Effect black printed tile. Seems odd that it has never appeared in any of the sets or Bandmates but I’ll track it down like Thanos ;)

But with the 20 limit, I guess others like you will have duplicates and would be willing to trade?

Still quite jealous: they didn't make it to North America, and it is soooo frustrating.  I've contacted multiple stores about this, none has any idea of what's going on.  If anybody else in Canada (or elsewhere) found a box and is willing to go halfsies, let me know.  I ideally wanted a full box with two sets for replacement pieces, but I'd prefer a single set than having to go on the secondary market.
