Why is Amazon selling the Razor’s Crest for 30% over RRP?
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard Member Posts: 320
Probably because it sells at a premium from third party sellers so they figure that is what it’s worth.

    Because they can.

    Just never seen that before...

Sometimes Amazon's pricing bots see higher priecs for an item and adjust accordingly. That is why the Aston Martin James bond set was around 250 dollars at one point.. it happens.
  • Yellowcastle2Yellowcastle2 Member Posts: 47
    ^ Thanks, that’s very interesting.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,480
My guess is the pricing bots usually keep the price at or lower than competitors like Target, Walmart, and Lego itself. But when a set goes out of stock at all those places, then the bots are free to match the going rate.

Yup, I saw Amazon playing the pricing game for other things as well.  I was looking to buy some descaler for my coffee maker early last summer that usually goes for $5.99.  The only regular big box store that carries it is Bed Bath & Beyond, but they ran out of stock for a couple of months, no doubt due to all the people working from home since spring.  During that time, Amazon was selling the same descaler for ~2.5x the normal price!  When it finally came back in stock at BB&B, Amazon dropped the price back down to the regular price, which had also been their price for about 2 years at that point based on pricing history.  I've been shopping with Amazon for a loooong time now and I feel like this is a relatively new thing for them to sell above MSRP.

Another notable example of this is #10255 Assembly Square (from Amazon.com, not a third party reseller) for a low low price of $409.54

That’s horrible.  People already have to be wary of 3rd party sellers using amazon fulfillment as it looks like Amazon.  I would always tell parents to also check that it was Amazon itself to trust the price.  Just awful.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,480
Personally, I trust Amazon fulfillment when it’s covered by the Prime return policy. Also, I believe Amazon fulfillment means the product is actually in an Amazon warehouse, which should mean predictable shipping as well.

The big problem with 3rd party but fulfilled by Amazon is that Amazon doesn’t really check that the sets are complete. It’s very easy for someone to send them a box that’s been opened and retaped. Not a problem if you open sets pretty quickly, but could be a big problem if you don’t get around to things quickly.

Good point. I’d open anything right away if you have any doubts at all. Of course, I have probably several sets for which I have not done that 🤞. I also worry about stuff that came straight from Lego, seeing as people occasionally report missing bags or even the wrong set inside.

Now, if only there were actually some Amazon deals for people to post about :)

Yeah, Amazon has been fairly barren the last month or two.. I should not complain though as my wallet took a hit before Christmas

LEGO #60290 Skate park is on sale for 31.99 (20% off)  Not a great price (IMO) it may be for someone looking for a gift.
  • pxchrispxchris Member Posts: 2,388
I've gotten a number of deal alerts in the last couple days for 20% off sales at Amazon, Walmart.com, and Target.com.

It's nothing spectacular for sure, but after a stretch of no discounts at all, it's nice to see a bit of a "return to normal".

^ I really liked that set after I gutted it for power functions.  Nowadays, I keep staring at the latest cargo train...

Is it better or worse than the LEGO Minifigure Visual History with the orange spaceman?  https://www.amazon.com/dp/1465497897/  (worse because it doesn't contain an orange spaceman)

Considering the book was released 8 years ago the info is hopelessly out of date.  So unless one really wants that Toy Soldier Minifig?  To me it's not something that should be being sold for more than a couple of dollars at this point since it's so outdated..

I'm willing to bet most people mainly want it for that minifig so the book's content doesn't matter as much...

I know but I guess I have a love/hate thing for DK publications.  It goes back to all the Star Wars Complete Visual Guides that they produced that were always in need of new versions once the next movie came out.  Plus I think they are horribly overpriced to begin with.  I do want that Toy Soldier but still want a better deal.

The best deal I found on the book has been 10.99 from Amazon. So I'm not sure there will be a better one, at least if you only want the one figure.. What grills my cheese is the book with the Orange space guy being only down to 26 USD on Amazon so far.

I purchased a few of this item for $10.55 a piece back in 2013 on Amazon. Is this supposed to be some incredible price?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
Nope, folks are just chasing something old at the best price possible.

Sorry, I thought it would be nice if others can find it at a similar price in case they may have missed the price before (especially if that good price was 8 years ago)

No No. My comment has obviously been taken the wrong way. Obviously, it is a good price. @Yellowcastle mentioned "if it goes any lower" and I was just saying that I've gotten it for lower.
