Yes, sorry I missed your suggestion. You and @shib still want to be tag contributors?

    I'll sort it if so.

Still happy to help if you want it

Well unluckily I am here just once in a while, but I can definitely help a little bit..
At least with those wings of fire I originally asked for :)

Noticed a bit of an inconsistency in the mini figure tags for Doctor Who mini figures - The doctor mini figure in the Doctor Who Dimensions level pack (71204) has the tag of "The Doctor" while the two in the Ideas set (21304) have "The Eleventh Doctor" and "The Twelfth Doctor" - personally I'd rather they were all just "The Doctor" as they are all meant to be the same character (in the same way that OT Alec Guiness Obi Wan, PT Ewan McGregor Obiwan & freaky anime eyed Clone Wars Obi Wan minifigures, while having different actors/source material are all meant to be the same character) but understand that (particularly if a full Doctor Who theme emerges) people might want to differentiate different doctors.

Either way one set or the other could do with being changed so there's some constancy to the approach.

I asked if #8088 ARC-170 Starfighter is this really a clone wars set in the star wars topic and the feeling was it was a episode 3 set.

The minifigs have normal eyes, R4-P44 is from episode 3, Captain Jag is from episode 3 and nether were in clone wars.

  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
It's probably labeled as Clone Wars because it mentions the Clone Wars in the description, I don't know enough of the Star Wars universe to know

Definitely Episode III for the reasons mentioned above as well as the fact that the minifigures do not have Clone Wars style eyes.

@Shib - You make a good point about the Doctor Who minifigures. At the moment we cannot edit minifigure tags very easily but I think it is on @Huw's to do list!

It is, but until then I've edited them manually, the change will take hold overnight.

Yeah that's the odd thing Lego were the ones that called it a Clone War set, luckily the eyes give it away.

Thanks @Huw @CapnRex101 for the updated tag now I don't own any Clone Wars sets again.

With regard to the Ideas Doctor Who set, it might be helpful to distinguish tags for 11th and 12th Doctors as both are included in the set but 11 is not visible in the main photo.

Not sure if it is proper or not but having the abbreviation 'Dr.' somehow included in the tags would be helpful in finding this set as well. As it is, spelling out 'Doctor' is the only way to get it included in search results.

I am excited to find this thread.

I had been thinking about a way to categorize Lego sets of the past again after seeing the new for 2016 set #60117 - Van & Caravan

and how similar it was to a set I had as a child:

    1988's #6590 Vacation Camper

    Further research also turned up:

    1984's #6694 - Car with Camper

     1975's #379 - Car and Caravan

    1970's #623 - White Car and Camper

There are way more examples of this I couldn't find right away. There also even more in Friends and Duplo, etc! I would propose the tag for these would be "camper trailer."

In short, we need tags that are more specific to capture the exact rehashes in one spot. I would be willing to help. There is a list I've been working on.
  • legomasonlegomason Member Posts: 190
    A couple more:

    2012's #4435 Car and Caravan

    1974's #656 Car and Caravan

    2010's #5655 Caravan

    2014's #41034 Summer Caravan

    1985's #3641 Car and Camper

This is one that could cause another regional language debate, to me the appropriate tag would be Caravan, but as the set names indicate there are variations on what people might call such things.
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
Precisely - to me a caravan is one with an integrated cab! Perhaps it might be safer to go with just "camper" as that also describes its function?

But then again, there no rule against having two tags, is there? It could be "camper" and "caravan" so that anyone can search for it easily enough.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
To me a Campervan is the type that has an integrated cab, which wikipedia seems to agree with (although obviously wikipedia is only as reliable as the author ;-)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campervan

Apparently what I'd call a caravan is often called a Travel trailer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_trailer) which is a term I've never heard before.

There is a lot of variation between UK and US English when discussing vehicles. Probably best to try and include both versions in the tags.

You know, to be honest I think I had just confused myself. It was early in the morning. :-P

But as @Bumblepants said, it's probably worth having both just because people from different dialects will be searching for it.

I think that 6561 Hot Rod Club could do with a "Garage" tag. Also I noticed and issue with an incomplete tag. There is a Fire Truck tag but currently only set 8280 has the fire truck tag where the set has fire engine in the name. There's also a few really old ones that are named fire truck but lack this tag (personally I'm for a bit of redundancy so anyone clicking the actual tag will still find what they are looking for.) Then there are oddballs like 6340 Hook and Ladder. Maybe also add the tag "ladder" for the ones that have a ladder on them? Or at least the moulded ladder?

I'd really like to see a "re-release" tag for sets like 10041 Main Street and 10001 Metroliner.  (There are a bunch of others as well, but this shouldn't include sets like 6140 and 6109 which are the same set and not technically a re-release.)

    70751, 10193, 10223 all need the D2C tag,

Also not sure about Pirates of the Caribbean, 4181 has 'On Stranger Tides' as its Subtheme and Tag but I think its from the first film.

Shouldn't 75037 Battle of Saleucami be listed as an Episode 3 set? The speeder and the clone seem to be based off of this image from Ep. 3:

The clone also has normal eyes.

Seeing as noone has posted here for more than 3 years - is this still the right topic to suggest tags to be added to sets?
One example is https://brickset.com/sets/7744-1/Police-Headquarters which should have the tag "Bathroom" - it's one of very few sets to actually include 2 toilets!

Does a toilet in a jail cell count as a "bathroom" if it's not in a discrete, private room?

Looking at the "Bathroom" tag, it seems to be a little vague all things considered—lumping together sets into one tag even when a set contains just a shower, just a toilet, or even just a sink! Perhaps distinct tags for things like "toilet" and "shower" would be beneficial for the sorts of edge cases where the term "bathroom" might be considered a bit generous.

Sinks go in kitchens, basins go in bathrooms. So care will be needed if you use sink, as this should then also include sets with kitchens.

I was thinking the same, but it seems the admins (just contacted them) have tried to reduce the amount of tags by using broader ones - if tags like "toilet", "sink", "shower", "bathtub" etc would be used, several or all of those would have to be added to sets like the Tree House or the Ghostbusters HQ. Easier then with just "Bathroom".

I think there is a duplicate tag:

    Can they be merged?

If you type in that search box, matching tags appear beneath any matching sets in the popup results.

Hotdog is no longer there but the 'hot dog' ones are. Two may well be superfluous but so are probably 80% of the other tags so I'm not going down that rabbit hole :-)

Today's RSOTD made me realize that #7735 does not have the tag Sliding Door.
  • AanchirAanchir Member Posts: 3,037
Lately I've been more and more frustrated with the way that tags can no longer be added to sets if they're also a minifigure name. Ordinarily this would not be an issue, except that there are a lot of minifigure names that are also common words, and that in some cases even prevent set tags already in use from being added to additional sets.

Some noteworthy examples include Scorpion, Ghost, Vulture, Snake, and most recently, Rabbit. Ever since these terms were added to the database as character names, the "Scorpion", "Ghost", "Vulture", "Snake", and "Rabbit" tags can no longer be added to sets with brick-built and molded ghosts, snakes, and rabbits as they always had been in the past. Even the Santa Claus tag has this problem, (though it IS the name of a specific character), given the sheer number of sets with brick-built Santa figures in them.

In some cases, users have created workarounds like creating a "Scorpions" tag for sets containing actual scorpions (and not just figures named Scorpion). However, that creates inconsistencies with other sets that already used the "Scorpion" tag BEFORE it was added to the database as a minifigure name, such as #31004, #31032, and #70794.

And that doesn't even touch on the number of potentially useful set tags (especially types of fantasy creatures or animals) that can never be created because they were previously added to the database as character names — like Alien, Monster, Witch, Zombie, Werewolf, Giant, Cyclops, Centaur, Phoenix, Genie, Gargoyle, Scarecrow, Robin, Raven, Magpie, Falcon, Sloth, Beetle, Wasp, Orca, Toad, or Cheetah.

Nor does it cover the number of OTHER current set tags that would become useless if LEGO ends up introducing minifigures of established Disney, DC, or Marvel characters with names such as Owl, Chameleon, Stingray, Unicorn, Sensor, Turtle, Angel, etc.

In conclusion — is there any way to do away with this particular restriction against tagging sets with terms that exist as character names? It seems to be way more trouble than it's worth.

    I appreciate your frustration!

I see that currently there are 20 sets tagged "Award Winning Product".
However, I fail to see what kind of award was awarded.
Can you clarify this tag and possibly enhance the database with a field that contains a bit more information about the 'award'?

A minor thing I just noticed is that the character tag for J. Jonah Jameson (from the Spider-Man sets) is misspelled as J. Jonah Jamieson. If that's fixable, it wouldn't be a bad time to do so before the Daily Bugle set releases officially.

While checking the "Tags grouped by theme" page, I noticed that the tag "x4" is (also) listed in Castle, with 1 associated set, but by following that link, I get a "No Sets Found" result (There are only 4 sets with that tag, all in Space Police 3), why?

    And the "Constraction" tag is missing in several sets: some Chima ones from 2003 and 2004 lineup (i.e. in their Constraction sub-theme), most of the Hero Factory sets, some SW from 2000 (8000, 8001 and 8002), 2001 (8007 and 8008) and 2002 (8009, 8010, 8011, 8012 and 65081), 2008 (10186), 2015 (75107, 75108, 75109, 75110, 75111 and 75112), 2016 (75113, 75114, 75115, 75116, 75117, 75118, 75119, 75120 and 75121), 2017 (75523, 75524, 75525, 75526, 75528, 75529, 75530, and 75531) and 2018 (75533, 75534, 75535, 75536, 75537) aaaand all the Bionicle sets? <runs for cover...>

I was super confused what the X4 tag was even FOR until I did a Google search and remembered that the prison planet X4 was where certain Space Police 3 sets appeared in The Adventures of Clutch Powers. I expect that somebody, at one point, was tagging things according to their locations in that movie (which I'm unsure is even necessary, but whatever), and perhaps mistakenly tagged some of the Castle sets that appeared later in the movie (on a different planet) with that tag, and somehow the tag was properly removed from the sets but remained in the drop-down.

    @Huw Thanks!
But while reviewing my data, I chose not to change anything: CCBS and Constraction are two different things, and the sets related to each one are already tagged as such.

Lastly: Can somebody add 75112 to the "related" sets for battle pack 66535 ? The latter is a 2 in 1, but only has 1 "related" set.
