I would love to work at a lego store.

On holiday in Italy and came across a small independent toy shop that stocks Lego. To my wonder they have an 8129 in stock. Only I've packed light with a small case so it would be quite a logistical challenge to be bring it home. A dilemma because I've always wanted an AT-AT.

^ Just carry it on the plane.
  • Steve_J_OMSteve_J_OM Member Posts: 995
^^No can do I'm afraid. Ryanair are very strict about having one piece of hand luggage.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
Can you mail it to yourself?

Ah Ryanair....... Say no more ;-)

Can you pay for an extra bag?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Made my first sale on Bricklink today =)

Wear what was in your first bag! :o) Just 'til you get on the plane.

Edit:- ......and post a pic! :oD
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^^Yes @Jenni, its exciting for my first sale. An order for multiples of the Superhero sets. It was a good deal for both parties too. Nearly 100% return on purchase with 2 day shelf-life turnaround. Works out to something like 18,000% annual ROI lol
  • Steve_J_OMSteve_J_OM Member Posts: 995
@starfire2 I don't think I'd be able to source a big enough box to send it home in when I don't know where anything is...nor have I seen a post office!

@kevbags you can pay 15 for an extra checked bag, but I don't think you can pay for extra carry on. In fact if your carry on exceeds the Ryanair dimensions you get charged something ludicrous like 50 to have it checked in!

@flump6523 the thought has crossed my mind! I'm starting to think my bag might just be big enough...

How good is the set in comparisons to other AT-ATs? Another thing stopping me is that I'd love the motorised one.
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
^ Picture! If only for the picture, please do it. :o) I remember a few years back coming home from France to Heathrow in my snowboard kit - even wearing my boots because BA of all airlines were acting like pr*cks!

Personally, I like the motorised best of all of the AT-ATs. Just the dog's head rocking side to side does it for me. :o)

My status today is I just built the Marina. Nice build but too simplistic and overpriced. Also, must be from a current batch as the Life Jackets in the set were new ones and not the old ones.
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
It took me FOREVER to get the pool done. I actually got aggrivated atnd quit on it Sun night. Finally got it done Monday. Now I am working on the people in the scene lol
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
Between the base layer, the fence, and the pool itself...I can see where that pool scene has probably derailed several ribbon building efforts.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Heh-heh, I built the pool scene for our store as well. I had to tag my wife in to finish it off. Is there a support group for pool scene builders?
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
How did you get involved in that @sidersdd? Do you have to be an employee or a LUG?
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Our LUG was contacted by LBR to help build the models. There were a bazillion of them it seemed. We divided up the work - built some during one of our meetings and took some home. My kids enjoyed helping out, and were proud to see their work on display at the store.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
Cool, I would love to do that.
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,115
Waiting for a nail set of draws to arrive so I can sort my lego out and break down my models better. Also got a red robin graphic novel wondering what @Savage Steel could do to a robin to get it to look like him.

@redbullgivesuwind Is this red robin? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Robin_(comics)

Can't say I've heard of him! But I could do that (I think!)
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,115
Ha ha that link comes up with an american burger company. Ill send you a few pictures of him and then have a look and see what you can do.
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,115

Finally finished the Town Hall and there are definitely a ton of bricks missing.
The roof is a great build, glad I got to do that bit.

@iccarus and @sidesdd Yeah the fence was a PITA too. It doesn't hold together too well. My best friend is tasked with the flowers and the theater but she is handing the theater back to me cause she is still working on the flowers. So far she has 30 bricks missing for the baseplate already. Ugh!

I have this set and I got it out one night just to mess with our dogs (one's a lab mix, the other a boxer). My boxer ran off then came back just to bark at it (intruder!) and my wife's lab got scared of it and peed on our living room carpet. My wife immediately told me to put it away. It hasn't come out of the "toy room" since then.

    ROFLMAO.

Busy with MMV since monday. After sorting out the bricks by color since they are not in numbered bags tonight finished the first building, the Blacksmith shop. Big fun and a great building, this is what Lego is about.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@redbullgivesuwind That's what happened to us, we're now complete except for the walker and battle pack.

After tearing apart the house to find the LEGO catalog (my daughter had put it in her "time capsule") we're trying to decide what to do with the 10% coupon. Do we maximize the coupon and buy an expensive set? Do we buy the CTT because our daughter believes she is Ahsoka even though we don't want anything else in the box? Decisions......
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Buy Ahsoka separately for under $10 (ebay, bricklink) and spend the coupon on a big ticket, rarely discounted item for max benefit.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@brickdancer The thing is, Ahsoka will need people to fight against and alongside her so if I'm going to end up paying $10/figure I may as well get a whole lot of bricks too.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Well since you put it that way, she'll need Barris Onifee to go along with Ahsoka =)
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
@Jenni, I don't think the people between us on the box exchange would like it much due to an increase in shipping but I could stick a CTT in there for you. lol =)
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,115
@Jenni yeah it is worse now that I have found out I got it half price as well. Im wondering what else they have discounted with no anouncement.

The CTT is a really nice model so if you can get it I would although it lacks on the number of clones.

I am displaying my Classical Library MOC in the hospital library at the hospital I work at, in honour of National Library Week. The librarian knew of my Lego pursuits and had seen the Library ... so she asked me if she could display it for a week!

It has been received very well, with many people taking off the roof to peer inside to view the internet stations, couches, library stacks ... as well as the busy street scene outside!
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
Stick to to death of custom minifigs today. It's like a massacre round here, body parts strewn everywhere!
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
@andyscouse, you know we need to see pics now, right? :)
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@brickdancer Stop it Wynn, I've never even heard of that one!

@graphite That box is going to be as big as the CTT box by the time it gets to me anyhow. However I need the figures by April 22 when apparently I will have produced a birthday cake showing a clone wars battle scene. I knew letting her watch Ace of Cakes was a really bad idea :).
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
Another £150 of heads, torsos and hair ordered from lego! eek!
Chuffed to be getting a system in order now though :) Plain torso's for the win!

@andyscouse - yep, we need to se it!
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@Jenni oops I spelled her name wrong, its Barris Offee

  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@Brickdancer If she hasn't asked for that one it can wait. I think the request is for Ahsoka, Anakin, Luminara, and Ventriss, she told me last night that I don't need to produce battle droids which would probably be easier to do than the characters. Fortunately Nute Gunray was in the advent calendar.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
@jenni, Becca sounds very fun, I'd love to come and play Lego with her :-)

@savage_steel: Go custom minifigs! I sent a pic (with a link) of your NUFC figs to a colleague yesterday, so you might get an order there :-)
Btw, I owe you for some hair and heads, don't I? PM me the damage!

My status - can't believe I've had Town Hall for nearly a fortnight and not built it.
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
@LIT - thanks for the advertising! They've not arrived yet, I'll tot it up when they come.
Nothing terribly exciting in todays order. ooo except the little HP cat and new dog mould (un painted) around £1 each. The white cat with crazy black eyes is 50p. Gonna try and streamline my accessories options to ones I can actually order from LEGO. Too much hassle tracking things down on bricklink. Though there's a few CMF heads I'll keep in my options as they're so cool. And I'll always be looking for black hands.
The lady (Matilda) was very intersted in what I was doing today, she's gonna check out the FB page. She said working at lego is awesome and there's lego everywhere even in the call centre. jealous!
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@lostintranslation you are always welcome! The LEGO room has a bed in it if you want to come stay. Becca would love you to come play :)

Found CTT on sale so bought the excavator. Evil store employee gave me back the coupon "in case [I] want to pick up a death star later"

Started to build my Modular Lego Shop MOC - loosely based on Cafe Corner. Think its going to take me a while...
  • stagusstagus Member Posts: 256
is having a wee panic about my display! My eldest's 18th last weekend has delayed my build.....damn him. lol
