From my experience with charity shops in the UK, a lot of them are staffed by volunteers with a salaried manager & maybe a "supervisor" as well. With all the donations coming into the charity shop, which has to be, now, left for up to 72 hours before it is sorted due to Covid 19, once sellable items are sorted from the items that cannot be sold for 1 reason or another which then have to go into the bin, (which the charity is charged "business" rates for its disposal), some items are sent/sold for salvage.

Some times there is no time to start checking the likes of eBay, etc to determine what an item is worth or what it sold for on the internet with a large backlog of stock with more being donated daily, they basically have to get it sold quickly to get more stock out onto the shop floor.

So, yes I got a couple of very good scores on the Lego monorail & the Hulkbuster but it is not just Lego that goes"for a song", recently on a Facebook reselling group a member said he found a watch in a charity shop that he paid £3.00 for and sold it for £150.00 as it turned out to be a special limited edition anniversary Mazda MX5 timepiece, so it is not only Lego, just imagine all the antiques, designer clothes, vintage & retro-tech, etc that gets donated because people just want to get rid of stuff.
That’s what keeps a lot of us going to charity shops. Looking for that next big “score” 🙂

Yeah, people ask what my trick is to finding Lego bargains in the charity shops. It's simple - check lots and check often.

I think you may all be forgetting the purpose of a charity shop?

If they have refused to accept more than the price on the item, maybe you should make an online Gift Aid donation to the charity concerned?  To maximise your donation.....
Or maybe send the Gift Aid donation to Fairy Bricks?

I just won #7685 BNIB on ebay for £36 shipped. Maybe not the greatest deal in the world, but I really think some of the construction sets from that year were the best ever made so I'll be happy to add this to my collection. Plus I'm a sucker for anything that has those large caterpillar tracks.

Charity shops are great. I picked up some Fright Knights sets for £60.  They came in mixed together in the box for #6097 Night Lords Castle. It was complete with instructions. Also included  complete #6087, #6037, #6027 and #2872. A nice Halloween find!

About a month ago I snagged the Crystal Sweeper 96% complete for $25 USD shipped. The only major parts missing were one tread and the red rock monster. I'm now "revamping" and improving the sweeper by upgrading it with modern parts.

Today I scored on an unopened Exo Suit for $31 USD (including shipping!!!). I totally missed it when it was on shelves and didn't even know it existed until a couple years ago. For me personally, this was a great deal and I'm super excited to finally own it! I now have all the classic spacemen except the light bluish grey torso (but I already have the rare airtanks in true light bluish grey, so I guess he's half complete).

I had the same feeling when I picked up #70838 Queen Watevra's 'So-Not-Evil' Space Palace for €40 earlier at Kruidvat :-)

Recently brought 3 boxes of mixed bits for £60. Have only just started going through it all. There’s a ton of minifigure (including some earlier CMF series parts so I’ve easily got my money’s worth from those alone.

But also included was the Star Wars figure sw0577.

fell off my seat when I saw the price for him!

Almost the RRP of #75053 The Ghost! Wow, I had no idea he was worth so much.

^Yeah...it's pretty crazy on that value. I just nearly got a hold of a complete Ghost with figs for $100. Wrong thread to whine about missing out, but makes me happy to hear others are able to celebrate!

It's strange to me that the black-hair Kanan is worth more than Zeb! At least the brown-hair Kanan was in two regular (and cheaper) sets, but Zeb was only in #75053.

I thinks it because they redesigned kanan from having black hair/face print to brown so is extremely rare with the black face print.

The torso, legs, and hair can be purchased on Bricklink for under $3 for all 3 parts, it's just the head that is ridiculously rare.

The all black head was a misprint/1st edition, from what I've been able to find.  I believe that even in later versions of the Ghost set, it had been fixed to have a mixture of dark brown/black printing.  I don't think this is well documented, but it's been awhile since I looked around at it.

Also, speaking from experience, unless you have a really REALLY good reason to get the all-black Kanan, don't try.  Almost no one that is selling realizes that they have the dark brown+black printing and not the all black printing.  It took me far to many attempts to actually get what was being advertised -.-

(EDIT: On that note, @alexwil you should definitely triple check that you do have the all black printed head.  I found if you get a very bright light, like the flashlight on your phone, up close to take a look, its pretty apparent, but in any other light it can be very easy miss the difference between the dark brown and black printing, especially if you're not looking closely.)

I was able to snag #40351 Ghost Brickheadz for $3 today. Not the craziest deal ever to be had, but pretty thrilled with it as it was a missing on my list. NIB, though the box looks as if it's been stepped on a few times. But, as I build my BHz, I'm not too fussed about it.

Just bought 5 boxes of mixed loose parts and some semi built sets.
Complete with 5 kilograms of instructions for € 300,-
Some of the sets I already found: 8043, 7905, 8109, 2507, 8297 and lots more of Ninjago, Bionicle, City, Atlantis, Racers and more.

The next three months I will be sorting everything, and not buying tubs....

Not a fantastic 'I-have-bought-half-a-store-at-€0.01-per-set' kind of deal but I'm still happy to have found #5885 Triceratops Trapper and #5887 Dino Defense HQ (and a 48 x 48 baseplate), both in great condition minus three cracked dark red parts, for €80 including shipping. Especially since I've been pestered practically non-stop by junior how much he wants more Lego dinosaurs and now he can add four of them (well, five, the package came with an extra Coelophysis) so I know someone who's going to be extatic soon! :-)
Sure beats the alternative, #75935 Baryonyx Face-Off, which would otherwise have been bought and includes one dinosaur... ;-)

picked up #60194 for $30 and #60150 for $6. #60194 was complete, box a bit banged up. No box for #60150, missing one window piece.

I have been having exceptional luck on ebay recently, although unfortunately it only applies when buying for others. While doing some Christmas shopping, I managed to find set #75254 AT-ST Raider (minus the minifigs) for only $25 and free shipping, and a MISB set #75947 Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue for only $35+shipping.

Managed to get a #851499 Chess set from Mercari for a total of $82. All pieces and figures present, and from the photos, in excellent condition as well. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow and I'm quite excited for it.

Scored an exceptional lot on eBay recently. Masses of city sets - #60200, #60210, # 60229 #60160 and #60162. Plus Harry Potter sets - great hall, hogwarts express, whomping willow, astronomy tower and fantastic beasts brief case. All with minifigures. Plus loads more that I haven’t looked through. All for £110 plus shipping. Totally thrilled.

Found an unopened #10274 ECTO-1 at a local store that clearances stuff from Costco.  They usually price the LEGO at about 60-70% or retail.  The #10274 was only $85 CDN (about $70 USD). I'm guessing someone may have forgotten to put a 1 at the front of the price! The box is even in pretty good shape as well with only a bit of shelf wear :o)

Now you've got me paranoid!  The seals still look original so i'm not too worried.  I've never had an issue with the numerous sets I've bought from the same place in the past.  If the boxes appear to have been opened, they check the contents and reseal them and anything that is incomplete they mark down even more in their "as is" bin. A couple of years ago I picked up several of the Mack Anthem trucks that were incomplete (still about 90% there) for about 15% of retail. It was easy to put together a couple of complete sets from the lot.
