A quick segment from the press release from the front page:
The LEGO Group and Universal Music Group (UMG) have today announced LEGO VIDIYO, a playful and innovative music video maker experience designed to celebrate and expand children’s creativity and passion for music. LEGO VIDIYO is a brand-new way to play that helps children dream big by directing, producing, starring in, and sharing their own music videos, using tracks from across the globe, led by chart hits from UMG’s unrivalled artists.
LEGO VIDIYO is aimed at children aged 7-10, providing a safe universe where they can traverse the worlds of physical and digital play. The platform lets children experiment with play and music, a powerful combination that’s fundamental to their development, extending their ability to connect with other people emotionally and creatively.
I’m really excited for this theme. Sure, I’m not the target audience but the unusual minifigs, heaving plethora of tiles and perhaps slightly better intended app synergy are in its favour for me, even if it doesn’t last forever. It’s going to be interesting to find out the answers but there are already many questions -

TBH, as long as the prices are reasonable, I think I would be totally okay with that.
Also I think the app might have the very typical problem of kids (and some parents) thinking they’ll be able to use any minifigures for the videos then being disappointed that it’s only the Theme specific figs. When Hidden Side came out I was showing how the sets work at a LEGO event and a surprising amount of people asked if you could scan any LEGO creation with the app to play with.
definitely want the melty head ice cream guy, even if it’s just to go with the LEGO Movie 2 Ice Cream guy!
I suppose it depends if the kids actually want a kid-friendly, safe video app hooked into Lego, but from what little we're seeing here the aesthetics seem fun. I wonder if they're going to sell it as sets where you know what you're getting, or blind bags.
I doubt it will last more than a couple years, but for something like this that's not really the point—something like this seems designed to make waves and ride those out for as long as they last, and no longer.
I imagine most kids will like it. My son loved the idea of scanning Nexo Knights tiles. It seemed totally pointless to me, but to someone in the target age range the idea of scanning a physical item and something happening on screen is great.
I give my daughters LEGO to avoid them spending time looking at screens. We don't have a tablet (pointless for our lifestyle) and they're too young to have a phone. Also, I don't really see an appeal in it, be it fun-related or parts-related. Maybe I'll bricklink a minifigs or two and that's it.
So, even if they like the theme when I show them the video, I won't be buying it. I prefer to spend the same amount (or less, depends on the prices for these sets) on DOTS, which I know they already love and for which I see a use in terms of parts.
Look, all I'm saying is that in 20 years when the Tech Infection Army invades the real world to get their revenge on LEGO for being cancelled before they even made it on the show, you're going to regret saying that when me and my complete collection of Nexo Knight powers are just gonna sit back and watch you get turned into a byter!
What interests me is the odd ‘Lego Vidiyo Minifigs 1’ item for $5. I think we should assume there may be some form of minifig packets that release alongside the main pods? I also wonder what ‘TBD-Harl’ means, like they couldn’t confirm what it was?
Perhaps I should have worded it better, but my idea was that now there's a good demand for collectable minifigures, they're 1) upping the price and 2) making it harder to find what someone wants to get.
For me personally, I don't have a lot of extra money floating around. So therefore I can't buy blind bags randomly until I get what I want.
think I might end up grabbing some now!
New piece for the base of the boxes has slots for 16 2x2 tiles and looks to be a rounded corner 8x8 and just over a brick tall
if so that again puts me back on the fence.
As there’s only a handful of pods perhaps in the initial wave I’ll probably go for all of those, but the price is going to be a hard sell as a smaller toy for children. I think £15 would be slightly more bearable in the market.
(Hey @Huw as these are on a retailer site now thought you might like to know for the main site)
Pass.
I have a very strong feeling TLG will need to reduce the prices on these - they’ll probably find they’re as hard to sell as the Brick Sketches at £18, which got reduced slightly to £15. Perhaps there will be some initial sales before people realise the full contents of the pods as they can’t so easily browse in a toy aisle but it really is high cost.
I think most parents will think “if TikTok/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook are all free why would there be any cost to a LEGO version” - talking to people it’s pretty shocking how many people don’t realise that social media sites/apps make their money from data harvesting and advertising.
The issue I had with when Dimensions went on sale that I don’t really want to repeat, is that all the rare ones (mostly gold bases) vanished immediately leaving millions of unwanted Gimlis and Construction Emmets lying around. I’ve got my fingers crossed I can actually collect all of VIDIYO because I really like the design & character that’s gone into them, but i’m not holding my breath when it comes to random comic con type exclusives, or oddly rare printed tiles.
For me I only really want a few of the figs and a couple of the new parts but even with so little that I’m after no way can I justify that price tag.

definitely a shame about the pricing, I’d like to try a couple but at those prices I’ll pass. If you consider the RRP is the same as #76173 #60283 #41691 or #31114 which will All be on the same shelf space, I really just can’t imagine these selling well.
