    Agreed... if I find myself getting impatient or bored with a build it usually says more about my state of mind than the set itself.  When I assembled the SW mosaic set I made an effort to slow down and savor the build - it made the experience quite relaxing and zen-like!

    I believe the size of #10276 Colosseum is an important factor because that kind of thing often attracts attention from media outside the traditional sphere of LEGO, thereby reaching people who read or watch those outlets.

    I agree that Architecture fans are presumably the primary intended market among existing LEGO fans.

    I agree that the orange Classic Spaceman does not truly represent the quality of modern minifigures. Of course, nostalgia is as valid a reason for a vote as any other, although I would welcome greater focus upon minifigures which are really pushing the boundaries, with dual-moulding, intricate printing or anything else!

    What interests me are the comments from Classic Space fans, desperate to demonstrate its popularity to LEGO. I wonder what such people actually want from LEGO. They already acknowledge the range constantly and it seems highly unlikely that LEGO would return to the Space theme by producing sets to match those from the late 1970s and 1980s. I think children would find those minifigures and sets bland in relation to others.

    Creating brand new Space sets, as LEGO did with Alien Conquest or Galaxy Squad, would be brilliant but there is probably a reason those were retired quickly. We know for certain that an additional wave of Alien Conquest was cancelled relatively late, unfortunately.

    I should clarify that I have absolute respect for Classic Space but I have little interest in its return. I would love to hear from Classic Space fans on this subject though!

    I don't doubt that there is appetite out there for more Classic Space LEGO. I'd simply love to be able to buy #918, #928, or #6985 as a "legacy" edition set, similarly I'd like to see #6080 done the same way... perhaps a 'greatest hits' range has legs, but on the evidence of the Legends theme I'm not convinced it would do much better now, although it's a very different market than in '03-'04.
    Some of the things that get made leave me scratching my head, so I'm not even sure I'm best placed to judge this.
    Having said all that, I would far rather LEGO continued to produce new and exciting sets.
    I love Sgt. Orange but there is no way it's a better figure than Nehmaar Reem or any other modern and interesting figure IMO.
    Nostalgia plays heavily in my continued interest in Classic Space, but I'm happy for it to continue to crop up as it has been over the last few years as easter eggs and treats within other things.
    As others have said previously, if Space made another return, I would prefer Neo Classic Space over Classic Space, I would however prefer a fictional 'Space' to another slightly tired White and Black "real world" CITY theme with a space shuttle in it.
    I honestly don't mind one way or another, but to me, #31107 and the upcoming #31111 ARE Classic Space! Added to that there's two additions to the collection coming in the CMF!
    You know, I'm not sure I need a full blown theme, these are probably enough for me, don't stop though LEGO, keep 'em coming please.

    Definitely an unpopular opinion, but I’m a little over all of the Classic Space references currently. It used to be a cool, niche reference, like when it showed up in the original Lego Movie, but ever since then, it feels like Lego has started referencing it repeatedly. It seems to me that nearly every numbered CMF series recently has had a figure with some sort of Classic Space logo on their torso or accessory or something. There’s two or three torsos with the Classic Space logo or spaceman that are frequently used in City and Creator. We got a lot of callback sets to it during the 2010s, with the Exo Suit, some promos, and any set that came with Benny. It’s lost its appeal of being a neat easter egg and has gotten oversaturated to the point that it’s not cool to see references to it anymore.

    This is coming from a guy who didn’t grow up with Classic Space though, so I’m sure someone who grew up with that line is thrilled to see it constantly being referenced. I’m sure I’m probably alone with this viewpoint and I imagine that I’ll have a lot of people pointing their megaphone blasters at me for this one.

    To be fair, the first representations of buildings like the Burj Khalifa, Empire State Building, and the White House were pretty rubbish - If I remember correctly, the first was basically just a load of stacked 1x1 round bricks. Plus the prices of the early ones were extortionate.

    I have no problem with them re-doing those buildings. I'm not a Skylines fan though. We need more buildings the size of the Empire State building and the Statue of Liberty. Those two look excellent on display.

    But the entire build experience is incredible because of the ridiculously satisfying sound of the bricks pouring out of the bags. I think we need a run of Youtube videos of people pouring out the pieces.

    I've just finished building the island build of pirates of barracuda bay. I really liked the first half of the island, then I really liked the individual parts, but when I assemble them all together to get the final build, I don't like that much how it looks. I expect I will like it much more when I rebuild it as the ship.

    I guess sales will always trump architectural interest though.
    I have actually always treated it as such, even back to the start of this line.  I only purchase landmarks (or now skylines) that I have already visited.  I think its because I'm not really one for souviners; I'm happy with a few photos.  But if I can combined my two favourite pastimes, Lego and travel, then that's a pretty good reason for me to get a set I reckon.  Serves two purposes, in the end less clutter, and I don't (usually) have to bring something home in my suitcase (I generally only have a backpack with me); it also puts a bit more control into how I collect this line (ie, not everything!)

    Thats not to say that I'm not interested in the more architectural aspects of the line, but part of a reason I travel is to experience that architecture myself.

    I do agree that the constant iterations of some of the sets is fairly unnecessary.  The line isn't so old that it needs constant updating I think.  I struggle to find a reason to update those, although I did buy both versions of the Lego House (but I did visit both before it officially opened to the public as well as after so I figure it counted!)

    I completely agree with the above comments about Lego Ideas sets. I don't see why anyone likes the "dark mode" style that many of the original projects are built in. I also fully agree with Lego's changes to the projects, as the original ideas are much too big. I hate when the minority that wants dreary, monstrous pre-packaged MOCs that cost a kidney apiece starts on their spiel (you know the one).

    it's brighter and possibly a better build too, I like the frame around the roof a lot more on Lego version. Also not sure how a roof ends up being as much of a mess as in the original model.

    It annoys me when sale lists don’t include the set name... just a long list of set numbers. 

    I don’t bother to click back and forth on my phone just because you can’t take 5 more seconds to put a set name or at least group them by theme and note the theme. 

    You might say it’s my loss, but I just take my money elsewhere like eBay, so we both lose. (shrug)

    Speaking of which, does anyone get top dollar if they list “LEGO 8675309” without descriptors on eBay? I’d venture to say no.

    The simple thing to do here is to put a limit on the number of parts that can be used in a submission. I can understand the complaints as people voted for a quite different model and may not have voted for the smaller / different model although for sure it will sell well anyway. It would be interesting but of course impossible to know whether lego's version would have made it to 10K votes.

    The limit is 3000, which makes the big Ideas submissions worth approximately $350-400 if reproduced without changes.  The Blacksmith Shop submission is a Modular-sized building ($180+) on top of a huge brick built base requiring lots of recolors ($60+ on its own), while I guesstimate the set at $120-140.  Similarly, I estimate a faithful "productionized" Pirate Bay would have been in the $350 range.

    I tend to see video reviews as having two key advantages: you can get a better sense of the product as it would be in-person because hands are interacting with and rotating it and you can witness play features and moving functions in action, which still pictures usually fail to illustrate to a satisfactory degree.

    I also find a lot of written set reviews simply don't have enough photos to back up the written descriptions, so I feel like I'm hunting to see where that feature might be shown in the pictures provided. It's also illogical to me that the entire collection of pictures taken for a Brickset review wouldn't be used for the article, since they often provide important context to the writing and shouldn't have to be found on an external gallery.

    Well... that happened.

    Redbeard is still the winner in my eyes and that’s the minifig I voted for! Sublime printing and graphic design, plus peg leg and hook arm - what’s not to love?

    I'm not sure how I feel about r/lego in general; just seems like the same content over and over again.

    'Not having money to pay for it' wasn't one of Ahab's limiting conditions.  

    All of my 'white whales' are presently in the possession of @samiam391.  And he's too quick to harpoon.

    Seriously! “White whale” doesn’t just mean “the set I wanted the most.” It means something you’ve searched and struggled to find and catch for many years. Although I guess in some ways, I can understand an argument for the UCS MF or similarly expensive set being a white whale for many people whose income is lower. Their hard quest wouldn’t be to find the set, but to scrap together the $ to buy it.

    Just venting:

    While I’m glad new people are coming into the hobby since LEGO has been in kind of a decline following peak LEGO, it has ruined my Facebook groups.

    My unpopular LEGO opinion is that the explosion of newbies since the fall is obnoxious with their innocent and inexperienced questions. It’s a constant flood that makes me want to leave the groups.

    Yes, I know. I was a newbie too.

    It also begs the question though that why aren’t more of them finding the forum? I remember when I felt obligated to check the forum every day because there would be so many posts it made it hard to keep up.

    ^ I look at it as a potential opportunity to off-load older sets now to these new folks, and I expect the inventory of currently purchased will be readily available for better prices in the next 3-5 years.
