in the same boat. rarely are there discounts at my local Walmart. and when there is, they get snatched up super fast that I almost always miss them.

Well, after all, this is exactly what clearance prices are meant to do: clear old stuff off the shelves to make room for new stuff. The faster it goes, the better for the store. I've given up on driving around looking for clearance Lego, but if I'm in a store that sells Lego, I will look!

Same @madforLEGO and @Switchfoot55. I'm pretty sure that the combo of this thread and Brickseek has only led me to finding a good deal one time.
  • TkattTkatt Member Posts: 472
Brickseek has sent me on more wild goose chases than I care to admit. I'm sure I've spent more money on gas driving to stores looking for something I've seen on Brickseek than I ever saved when I actually found something I saw on Brickseek.

Minor result, was looking for the Potter figure poly, but found the #60256 Racing cars discounted to 15 dollars. Was looking to buy this set, but not at 29.99

A store near me has new sets listed for 50% on the app and in store.

Got two or more of the following.

    75969: Hogwarts Astronomy Tower
    60265: Ocean Exploration Base
    41428: Beach House
    41427: Emma's Fashion Shop
    21161: The Crafting Box 3.0
    71721: Skull Sorcerer's Dragon

The clearance legos are all marked with cleance tags at regular price.

Has anyone seen a Walmart store move all the should-be-clearanced sets to the clearance aisle, affix a clearance sticker to them, but they remain full price?

I thought I had hit a treasure trove of bargains, but most of the good sets were still full price. Grabbed a couple HS sets for 40% off, which is pretty good for this region.

Yes, I see this a lot. Also with relatively new sets that I wouldn't expect to be on clearance already.

I’ve also seen this where they just shaved off the cents.

In my area, I've never actually seen them move the LEGO to the clearance aisle at all.  If it goes on clearance, it's just marked down in place in the regular aisle.
  • panchox1panchox1 Member Posts: 722
    my Walmart has done both.

The Walmarts I frequent rarely move the Lego to their clearance aisles.  They are mostly marked down & left in place.  The only time I've found any in a clearance aisle is after the holidays and the pickings were pretty slim.  There isn't normally a clearance aisle in or near the toy section.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
I find some stores move stuff to the clearance aisle and mark it from $19.97 to $19clearance.
What confuses me.....and I have 2 WM that are currently doing this, is moving 20-30 sets....Hidden Side, City, Friends Amusement Pier, DC Heroes Batcave/Clayface, Ninjago....to another toy aisle and leaving them at full price for 2+ weeks now.  So there's 2 separate Lego aisles.  Yet one store has some of the same sets is both places like HP Great Hall.  The stores just Tuesday  "clearanced about 8-10 cheap sets but the rest are still there at full price when other stores have wiped them from their store.  Doesn't seem like much of a plan.

Yeah, Walmart clearances are a shot in the dark for most. If anyone truly knows the rhyme and reason for how each stores clearances items then they probably also get a lot of stuff on clearance first because they know what stores tend to clearance things out at the drop of a hat and what stores seem to avoid it at all costs.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,564
The scuttlebutt on these forums in the past is that each WM gets a clearance “budget” that department managers can use at their discretion. So, that’s why every store is different.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
^ I've been told that by several WM toy department managers.  That "budget" also depends upon the size(space) of the store and how well the store sells in volume if/when they get "budget" allowance.  I have some small town WMs that clearance stuff out soon....like HP Great Halls...I bought some of those over a year ago for 50% off...yet my closest two WM are newer, larger and in growing cities, yet those sets still sit.

I always get so excited about the prospects of deals like that. And every time I go to Walmart around me (ATL suburb) I see no evidence that they have ever put a single set on clearance.

I think a large part of that is location. You are near a city of millions and millions of people. Meanwhile, I'm driving through old two-lane Highway routes in the Carolinas. There's not only less traffic over all, but I would wager a lot fewer people buy and sell Lego, so you don't get people swooping in to pick out all the deals in the middle of nowhere.

Yup, 100% why. It still disappoints me though. :)

I will be in Western NC next week and may stop at a Walmart or two on my trip, since they'll all be smaller towns. (Not going to Charlotte or Triad areas)

The other thing I've noticed is that the stores in better areas around me tend to not clearance LEGO basically ever.  I've seen them sitting on stacks of 20+ large sets for months and months without them moving or getting discounted in these stores.  But then as I go a little farther afield to stores in lower income neighborhoods or more commercial/less residential areas, I tend to find way more clearance deals on LEGO.  I don't know if this is an actual pattern though, or just how things end up shaking out at the 5-6 stores within a reasonable distance of me.

Some Walmart pre-Black Fiday sale ads are currently up on their website.  Nov. 7 & 8 they will be selling 11011 Classic box  & 10934 Duplo box for $30.

May be a dumb question, but is the same set that many stores were selling for $34.xx when it first came out? Not knocking the $30 price, just wondering.

Probably. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear they were already selling it for $15 on clearance! :)

I already picked up one of the #11011 sets at $34 a while back. I'm thinking about picking up another one or two. These make for a great source for just a general brick bucket for visiting guests and kids.

Page 42 of Walmart's "America's Best Toy Shop" catalog has $20 Super Gift Sets. One LEGO set: DOTS #41905, #41902, #41900, and #41908. RRP would be $28.96, so that's 31% off. The page says "additional sets available", so maybe there are more LEGO.

It's now on the main page, under "Site updates". #66642, which I couldn't quite make out on my paper copy.

I also whiff on Walmart LEGO clearance lately, Rochester NY area

By the time I looked up a CMF s20 ID guide they're out of it though they do have HP s2 for 4.97 and Disney S2 for 3.44

#11717 1500 pieces and 4 16x16 baseplates for 39.97 not a bad deal if you need both which I don't
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,269
A number of sets at "Rollback" prices, 20% off RRP. Most interesting: #75280 501st Legion Clone Troopers. I think it's still pretty hard to find most places, so probably doesn't need a discount.

So I’m hesitant to go out cuz of the covid but am surprised there are no posting on after Christmas clearance. Isn’t this usually a big deal? I wonder if it’s that there is nothing out there or the sale is so good no one wants to share until they can cover the 27 closest Walmart’s.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,269
I've been to several Walmarts. There's very little LEGO on the shelves. I see no point in posting about clearance prices on the shelf when the sets themselves are gone, especially since clearance prices differ so widely from store to store.

So...there are clearances?  The last few years around my area Walmart has been waiting to clearance stuff until the end of Jan. because their calendar year ends/starts Feb. 1.  It's been Target that has clearance the day after X-mas.

I was able to pick one up yesterday, very likely a return or one that had been found somewhere else in the store. Having missed it before the holidays, I was very happy to find it, esp at the reduced price of $19

Once again Walmart's inventory system fails me, reportedly 4-5 of these sets at a Walmart near me, went there this morning and not much there (what was there was not on sale). I mean it still was worth the effort for such a set being discounted like that, but still a bit disheartening to have to go to work afterwards.

I got #11717 and  #11011 50% off.  Stores have a decent amount of those in stock and they actually contain some really good colors and bricks if you're interested.  There were also a few other sets like the Caravan Family discounted 20%.
