Best Set Names Ever

The ball has already started rolling but I didn't want to jam up another thread. So, the question is: what is everyone's favorite set name ever? I have already noted #6561 Hot Rod Club and #1687 Midnight Transport. Let's hear 'em!

    As I said in the other thread (sorry for my part of the delinquency!): Betrayal at Cloud City is an excellent set name.

    Since I'm very SW focused, I will throw in two other SW set names I enjoy, going way back: #4475 Jabba's Message and #4476 Jabba's Prize. Most of the other SW set names are too obvious and/or boring (X-Wing, Resistance X-Wing, Mos Eisley Cantina, etc.). They get the job done, but they're not fun.

    I'd have to go with #6344 Jet Speed Justice.

    My favorite (one I never got as a kid) was #6989 Mega Core Magnetizer. Also love #6941 Battrax, #6276 Eldorado Fortress, #6273 Rock Island Refuge, #6345 Aerial Acrobats...so many good names in the 80’s and 90’s.

    One of the best set names for me was quite recent, #70617 Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon. Promises so much that I purchased two of them.

    All three occured to me too! But lunch was over, I had to get back to work. #6552 is where I want to live. A cabin you need a swinging bridge or a boat to get to? Awesome!

    No one’s mentioned some of the legendary Adventurers set names yet - Thunder Blazer, Tygurah’s Roar, Temple of Mount Everest, Temple of Anubis. Basically any Temple is a win really.

    I think the Fabuland line has some great offerings:

    Poor ole' Elton's table didn't even get a mention. At least Ricky got the pronoun in his set title.

    Always loved that set @560Heliport! I'm particularly fond of the black/red/yellow color scheme of this among a number of other Town sets.

    I don't have #1475 either, but I do have those others. Such a fun "sub-theme". I was actually surprised to learn as an adult how few sets actually use the printed pieces (doors and spoiler) because for some reason in my childhood mind, there were a lot more of the sets with that coloring.

    One of the commonalities I've noticed is that a lot of the choices are older sets, and very prominently '90s era sets. Other than Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon there don't seem to be many newer entries. #31079 Sunshine Surfer Van would be a modern pick for me - it helps that it's a fantastic little set, on top. 

    @560Heliport I loved Rocky River Retreat, still do, and wish I had a spot for it in my layout. It was one of those sets that was always out when I was a kid. Unfortunately it's packed up, but it's one I'll take out and build and leave out for a bit before it gets returned to the bin where the rest of my Town sets that aren't on display are packed.

    The 90s were a peak time for evocative, sometimes mysterious, names. But all were fun!

    One of my favorites overall is #6851 Tri-Wheeled Tyrax. From the picture on the box, it does obviously have three wheels. But what is a "Tyrax"? It suggests the make/model of the vehicle, of which the set is a tri-wheeled version. Or does indicate the class/ranking of the driver? Or, considering this is Blacktron (the bad guys), could it have more sinister implications? The imagination boggles, adding more to this set than the small piece count alone.

    One that I don't own but has an even more evocative, sinister name is #6034 Black Monarch's Ghost. A simple set with a knight and a ghost in a crypt. But as the "Great LEGO Sets" book pointed out on the pages for the Black Monarch's Castle, the presence of this little set being named so sets up a lot of questions. Who was the Black Monarch of the Black Knights? And since he is now a ghost, did he die naturally...or was he killed in battle--or worse, assassinated?

    But cool set names are not just the domain of the 90s! The only time I bought a set based on the name of it was when I found a busted-up #2283 Witch Doctor on clearance at Wal-Mart back in 2013. The figure on the box looked menacing enough, and in a good color scheme. But that name! I laughed out loud, started humming the version of the song of the same name by The Cartoons, and then trying to envision in what sense did a "witch doctor" have to do with robot "heroes" fighting on a jungle planet. It was too ridiculous to ignore, and the low price convinced me to take the set home. I still look at the name on the box and laugh.

    My favorite 90s set name is #6915 Warp Wing Fighter.  It was instantly clear to young iwybs that this was Lego doing their best to make an X-wing without a license!

    Lunar Limo and Vermin Vaporizer are pretty satisfying, fun set names that come to mind.

    One of my favorite set names is the technic set "Extreme Adventure" but it is only great when you read the set number first #42069 Extreme Adventure. Always makes my inner 12 year old laugh.

    😄 My inner 12 year old is always very close to the surface. For example, if someone says, "Excuse me," I want to reply, "Why? Did you fart?" I don't say it... but I really want to!

    I have seen this set dozens of times, and somehow never put that together with the set number.  I'm ashamed by how mature I've become :(

    I always liked the word play for set #2147 Dragon Fly. 

    I've always thought of it as Drag N' Fly since the airplane was made so it could fold up the wings and be towed (or dragged) by the truck

    Ooh, there's a lot...

    One that comes to mind right now (just because I recently got it back out of its box briefly) is #70738 Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty. Destiny's Bounty is itself a pretty cool name for a ship, and the second iteration of the set upped that with the dramatic "final flight". Now, was it actually the ship's final flight? Of course not. But it sounded cool regardless.

    Some other solid Ninjago set names include #70653 Firstbourne,  #70654 Dieselnaut, #70605 Misfortune's Keep, and #70749 Enter the Serpent.

    I think my recent favorite is #40358.  I mean Bean There, Donut That is pretty much a dad joke of a set name, but it’s stuck with me every time I think of top names.

    I still refer to that set by its full name every time. Actually TLM had some great set names in general: Trash Chomper, Rescue Reinforcements, Castle Cavalry, The Flying Flusher...

    I always wanted to have a Life on Mars set have the (Marvin the Martian) "Ilodium Peu 36 Space Modulator" set name... but that would require licensing... 😉

    Bob the Builder had a few like that. Scoop on the Road, Naughty Spud, various Scoop and Muck ones, and so on.

    There was also a service pack type set known as "Cross Axles with Knob".
