I went to the store in Stonebriar Mall (Frisco, TX) on Memorial Day.  They were limiting the number of people in the store at one time.  The middle was cleared out except for one station where they had the PaB elements on a 48x48 baseplate and forms to fill out indicating element selection and cup size.  Employees would then fill those orders.  You could walk up to the sets on the shelves and touch them.  There were a lot of sets not in stock and they said that the plant in Mexico was closed and therefore they didn't expect restock for a while.
I was there on Saturday 5/30.  Yes, they let you touch/pick up the boxes if you wanted to unlike what most others are reporting from other stores.  I didn't generally touch anything unless I really wanted to look at it.
The guy did let me walk behind to the PAB wall to look around at the bins as long as I didn't touch.  Yes, they'll scoop into a coup as you said and they had the form to fill out especially in case they were too busy to do it at the moment.  But they just weren't busy.  Whole mall wasn't.  Surreal atmosphere in what use to be packed Saturday afternoons at this mall.
He also said they are a test site for another idea with the build a figs.  So like everywhere else they've had the prepackaged 3 packs.  He said no one was buying them.  So it sounded like they were going to try something like putting several variations of figs together and have them individually on display (maybe in the middle space?) and you could then point out which ones you want and they would put them into package with tongs or something.  Guess they were still working on the details.

I like the idea of them displaying variations of Minifigs for one to choose from.  I really hope they go this route for the near future.  Hopefully they will let one choose from a variety of accessories rather than one or two.  I try to maximize the value of the accessories I pick since I have a general idea of what some cost based on similar items in Bricks & Pieces.  I'd much rather choose a dog, penguin, teddy bear, cat, flask or guitar over a chocolate bar tile, apple, banana, laptop, maraca and such.

In Cleveland, it was very disappointing. Much of what was already discussed. Went two Sundays ago mid day and it was totally empty. You have to stand in the middle and cannot touch the boxes. PAM, PAB, all middle bins are shoved to the back of the store to block access to the parts wall. It looks like a store in the process of moving. Creator, Ninjago and Speed Champions are on the back side walls, and you cant even get close to them. The employees offered to use their tablet to show you pictures of sets online.

All modulars sold out. Getting stock on Weds, but they ask you to call ahead to see whats inbound.

Took my two little ones, and needless to say we were all bummed out. Didnt buy a thing. They were much more interested in riding the escalator.

Checked out the Potomac Mills LEGO Store yesterday--the store itself was closed, but it appeared to be preparing for a similar system to those discussed above. All sets on the wall and a center station with pick-a-brick contents on a baseplate.

I've been wanting a PaB menu at all LEGO Stores for a while now. This wasn't why I'd envisioned it happening though!

The LEGO store in Woodfield mall (Schaumburg, IL) does the PaB stock on a base plate already, it is a time saver and you could see what they had in stock and not just in the bins, and now it appears they were ahead of their time. My guess is that LEGO stores may have glove dispensers to be used for people to grab parts out of the bins for their cups or have employees retrieve what you want (will make it harder to get some parts, or get only x of a part though regardless of how its done as I'm guessing store employees are not going to count out numbers of tires relative to hubs for example). Or have an employee ensure you douse your hands with sanitizer before and after getting parts from the bins?
In any case, Im champing at the bit for the stores to get back to normal.. I want some parts, and namely want some BaM parts that are due out this year.

@madforLEGO do you have some inside scoop on upcoming BaM parts?  Would love to know what I'll need to be on the lookout for on my rare trips to an actual Lego store.

There was a product feature on a leak site some time ago, it appeared like a store was using it to select a figure build from the Build a minifigure bar (maybe instead of rummaging through a bin looking for a part). Of the parts that appeared to be on the form, many of the figures on the form match what has already been released, so I'm just guessing that of all the parts to still be released (a bunch of parts that can build figures) there is a a Dachshund and a chicken animal pieces.

Those darn Chickens are quite pricey on BnP.  Not a huge Dachshund fan so I'm good with the ones I got from the Dog Walker CMF.    Hopefully they will have some new Halloween and Christmas parts coming.  I like to choose from accessories I know are expensive parts or not available elsewhere when I build figures.  Year before last I managed to get some of the Flask shaped bottles in one color out of the BAM as well as the Pumpkin Heads.  I'd like to get a few more of the Blue Teddy Bear but I'm not going to buy them from BnP since I already bought 2 sets of the Fairground Accessory pack.  I managed to get two sets of the bears from the current Friends Cubes from BnP so I don't really "need" more of the Blue ones.

The LEGO store in Woodfield mall  (Schaumburg IL) have pre-built random BaM packs of 3 figures and 3 accessories (looks like mainly with the new parts out for this quarter-including the dachshunds and chickens with the figures as they are part of this quarters release) and are selling them in the store. They also have their PaB board displayed in one of their display cubes (but sadly had no 'must have' parts for me).

Their stock (though it may be OK after today as some stores may have gotten shipments) was fairly limited...not much new stuff when I went there on the 29th. They do also have the hot rod promo going on if you spend more than 85 (I think that what it is), guessing it may combine with that 12n1 promo box if they have those too.

However the BaM are random and you may or may not find packs with a dachshund or chicken.

Is the chicken a new mould or a recolor?

Not certain as my other chickens are buried behind a lot of other parts.

Just visited the Mall of America store. PAB not available; they hope to have it up and running in a couple of weeks. I bought #80011 and got #40411 and #30550 GWP. They appeared to be pretty much fully stocked.

Update: PAB is available at MOA Lego store, but employees have to pick them for you. I don't know the details; I was checking out just before closing time, so I didn't want to delay anyone finishing work.

I so wish my nearest Lego store was closer.  It's killing me not being able to go.  But I'm not taking that long drive without knowing the store is well stocked with new product.  From what I can tell using the online stock checker it isn't yet.

FWIW... Sunday morning, the stock checker said the Mall of America LEGO store was OOS for #80011, but when I got there a couple hours later, they had two. Possibly they were in the storeroom waiting to be shelved. The store looked pretty well stocked, but in the past I have seen them move items to fill in an empty space. I live 13 miles away, so I'm kinda spoiled.

When I lived in NY I had a store in a Mall about 6 miles away so I really miss that.  Nearest one now is 44 miles and the other is 58.  Takes me about 1-1/2 hours to get to the nearest & another 1/2 hour or more to get to the other from the first one.  So most of my purchases are Wal-Mart, Target or online.

Not to make anyone jealous, but I have 4 within ~30 miles (including two with occasional outlet items).

    ^I am jealous.
I'm 23 miles from the Mall of America, about a 30 minute drive. It's the walk from the parking lot into the center of the Mall that gets to me though, especially if I'm just there for PAB and then I don't see anything I want.

Hardly, we have 5 in the Chicago area, and also an LDC as well so technically 6. (though only 2, and the LDC with limited hours for store only, are open currently from the LEGO find your store locator).

@KungFuKenny @Astrobricks @gelkster @Tkatt @thenos Mall of America store: PAB is scoops or fractions of scoops, as described by someone else earlier, plus a bonus scoop. Note the two sizes of boxes for the train: they seemed to be the same width and depth. New: All four Jurassic World sets, Minecraft #21161 and #21163 (new to me, at least). In stock: #21322 Pirates of Barracuuda Bay. MOA is open 11am-7pm, 7 days a week right now.

@560Heliport Thanks!  Did you get a cup?  A lot of those pieces were at our store back in February, so I guess they are getting rid of old stock before putting out new pieces... I may try to visit in the next few days and will give an update on what I find re: BAM and PAB
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 3,725
I got a large cup of these
the spiders were the bonus scoop. Had I been filling the cup myself, I would have filled it better with little pieces, but the scoop of spiders is more than compensation.

Yes, I saw it on the shelf! Not sure how many they have, or how long they'll last.

If I wasn’t 16 hours away, then they would have 1 less in stock. Has anybody seen Barracuda Bay come back in stock on Shop at Home?  I’ve been checking each day, but no luck yet.

I end up going to the Raleigh or Charlotte Lego store when I go, but each one is a 90-minute one way drive so it's an event I plan out in advance.

I did like when I lived in St. Louis for 6 months amd could get there in about 12 minutes.

Store in my area had plenty of the Christmas tree GWP. They also have some of the nutcracker for when they run out of trees.

Just back from the Schaumburg IL LEGO store (in the mall). They have the new Build a figures for Halloween, and also more parts for the quarter:
Sorry for the poor quality of the pics.
Interesting parts include the pink rubber duck raft, the pie with sprinkles on it, and the Iguana is back.
PAB also had 1x6 Sandgreen brick in stock among some other newish parts (like the 4x4 round plate that is orange yellow) -Sorry no pics for that.

It sounds like LEGO stores will be getting new Christmas BaM, as well as getting the older ones (I presume this will mean the Elves with Red hats may be back)

The Mall of America LEGO store was handing out polybag #30464 El Fuego's Stunt Cannon to anyone entering the store- no purchase required. It looked like there might have been other polybags in the box, but I'm not going to question free LEGO!

Lego.com's "Check Store Stock" feature seems to be down. It keeps telling me there isn't a store within 60 miles of the location I enter. I'm putting in a ZIP code and city that have a lego store within them and another within 15 miles!
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,757
Went to the Schaumburg IL LEGO store (in the Woodfield mall). No new Christmas BaM, but they have the Santa and Ms Claus with and red hatted elf as the Holiday BaM set, and also have the Frost wizard, ping elephant suit and boy with ski cap (w/Penguin) BaM Figures again.

I hate it too, but I think they are probably doing this for 3 reasons:
    1. To further limit hoarding
    2. To recognize more dollars for higher quality GWP. Lets be honest, over the past few years these have only gotten better.
    3. To pace with their own inflation on large sets, and make buying very high priced items more attractive. We know theres a lot more of those now that need to move.

I think it is the result of those surveys where they ask you what entices you to shop at Lego.com.  We all mark the "gift w/ purchase" sets because, let's face it, it isn't for the competitive prices.  Now they are trying to stretch it for every dollar they can get because we are all suckers for them.

I think inflation in general plays a part as well.  With LEGO putting out more and more expensive LEGO sets every year, they are bound to raise the promo entry level as well.

Yeah, but the hoarding is limited with limits of sets on their site, and noting the GWP are one per household now (at least that is what the fine print said for each promo).
As for the attractiveness (or 'higher quality') of this set? I guess we will see if these popup in the VIP rewards center because they did not hit those limits to move them all.

Also not sure if people saw in the baM figure thread but some of the LEGO stores have the new Holiday figure set of Santa, Female elf, and girl in sweater in stock
