Recently got my Nebulon-B Frigates from LEGO.com in great shape and a day early. This weekend, however, a special purchase will be made at the LEGO Store. Stay tuned for it and the reason behind the purchase!

Meanwhile, of my 256 sets owned, only one has >1000 pieces... and it's the #42112 that just arrived a couple days ago. Not even a System set! The closest System set would be #31084 at 923 pieces which I bought just a few months ago, right as it bottomed out in value and started appreciating immediately afterwards.
I really love #31084! The functionality of the coaster itself isn't brilliant, but it's just such a great-looking set. :-)

In my case, the set is special to me not just because it's a roller coaster, but because my first ever IRL roller coaster was also pirate-themed with a shark for a train. For coaster fans it's a carnival coaster called Sharky & The Pirates.
I agree, I don't much care for the functionality, I'm happy just to be able to push the train uphill and watch it go. At least it is possible to motorize with some modification! Might try that when I have the necessary components for it someday.

I made use of the VIP offers last night and ordered #31107 Space Rover Explorer for me, #40424 Winter Snowball Fight and two more #11010 White Baseplate for our family WV display, #75980 Attack on The Burrow as a Christmas gift for one of my daughters, a couple of Power Functions items and got the Dickens GWP.
I really wanted to get #40426 Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 and #75291 Death Star Final Duel, but they've been "Out of Stock" for weeks, apart from a very brief time when the wreath appeared in stock and then disappeared again a few days ago.

Ordered #42114 this morning to get the two GWP and have something to build over Christmas. Its my first big Technic set since the 911 GT3 from 2016. Looking forward to a massive yellow building site vehicle, but not sure #8853 will be able to reach high enough to load it!

Assembly square came back in stock this morning AFTER I made my purchase at midnight EST. Oh well. I’ll get it eventually.

I finally got around to the Chinese New Year Temple Fair and went with avenger's tower to meet the GWP threshold.

Sounds like you need to make another order! 🙂

Good move, since the Temple Fair is now “Sold Out” on S@H

Yesterday I had zero #10262. Today I have two. Long story short, S@H sent an email cancelling an Oct order for the DB5 along with the promo #40413. It’s OOS online so went to the store this morning before a lockdown takes effect. I get home and find a delivery of the cancelled order minus the promo. Quickly hid that in the closet since I made such a big stink about needing one so badly.

Can anyone advise on how to spot a fake when it comes to a modular brick bank or detectives office? I’m seeing them at about $550-$600AUD for the former, a little cheaper for the later. Is this the correct price and can I tell from just the front of the box if it’s fake or not?

Don't ban me for admitting this, but I've decided to pick up a few of the Gallidor sets, since they are usually cheap; especially loose. Yes, their bodies (especially the limbs) look weird; and I don't get why some didn't have elbow articulation. But, I had a regular Gorm and a couple McD's sets growing up.

I started with 8317: Allegra. $10 shipped. I think Jens will be the next one I get.

The Dark Side of AFOL is a pathway to many LEGO some consider to be unnatural.

Also, please bring bake goods to the next meeting.  Collecting Galidor requires patience and lots of carbs.

Can't advise on how to check large sets like that for fakes, but that seems right in the ballpark for the Brick Bank. I don't think the Detective's Office is going for that much yet.

FWIW: When I was helping my mate sell his 4 modulars, DO was the most expensive on BL (BB was not included in the lot).

Myself, I put in a small BnP-order for the last BnP-able to my #10197 - now only 10 bricks (non-BnPable) to go!

It’s marginally cheaper. Most on eBay etc I can’t see for less than $500AUD.

If that’s the going price for Brick Bank, I guess it’s my next purchase.

My Black Friday & Cyber Monday haul! All LEGO themes, including themes that rarely go on sale such as Super Mario, were a whopping 30% off over the weekend. That's right, 30% off Super Mario! So I got the other two expansions I was planning on getting (#71362 and #71366), as well the two Power-Up Packs that I figured I'd get someday. I'm definitely not selling my Starter Course and Mario's House & Yoshi now. #71362 was nowhere to be found on Black Friday so I had to come back on Saturday for it, and thankfully there were plenty of them up.
The department store that was having this sale also had two shelf-worn copies of #41369 Mia's House, which appears to still be in production everywhere else in the world, but has inexplicably been retired in Singapore for close to a year. This was the second time it's been 30% off, and while it's still pretty expensive for a Friends dollhouse, I decided to get it because I've always wanted it, Mia is best girl, and I love her exclusive outfit. Excellent complement to #41335 Mia's Tree House, with which Mia's family is now complete.
I found Build a Town and Other Great LEGO Ideas at a bookstore and although it wasn't on sale, it seemed like a nice entry-level LEGO town MOC guide so I grabbed it. Most online tutorials are either too basic or too sophisticated for my tastes.

I just ordered #11011 from Walmart.com for only $30, which for 1500 pieces is what I call a good deal. I also got #42102 along with it, just so I could qualify for free shipping. The tractor will be my first technic set ever, and I am excited to try something new for once!

I see Tiago worked on #11011 too, nice. Interestingly despite lacking doors, windows, wheels, turntables and other specialized parts it's got more part diversity overall than #10717 (or even #11717 including the 16x16 plates) according to BrickLink. They really need to tone down the part diversity so we can get better part quantities per box.
Also, "just so I could qualify for free shipping" at 8 words is probably the longest phrase I've seen or heard in casual conversation that's word-for-word in a Weird Al song ("First World Problems").

Where are the train collectors at?

I have someone local selling some used train tracks:

    36 curved
    18 straight
    2 switches

what would be the value for this type of lot in good and clean condition? I’m thinking about sending them an offer.

Also is there a place where you can look at what track configuration you can make based on the pieces of track that one owns?
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,728
^ That depends on which type of track they are. Are they 9v with metal on top of the rails or just plastic or the very unlikely chance they are 12v with metal center rails? I would look at the closed auction prices to get an idea of their value.
  • sweetness34sweetness34 Member Posts: 417
They are the current plastic tracks.

A couple sets finally came into stock to make the $150 threshold. (Plus I had $100 vip points):

    Crocodile
    Phantom Fire Truck
    Skate Rink

There were 17 other sets at higher priority that were out of stock...but I'm still happy to be getting these, because, LEGO.

The City road plates #60236 and #60237 have vanished all of a sudden. I was gonna grab another set of them during this latest Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal Toys "R" Us is having but they've disappeared from every single TRU and LCS. They're also Sold Out on Shop @ Home. The employees suggest someone might've bought them all out but I doubt someone would go and clear every single TRU in the country of road plates (of which they usually have dozens in stock) in a single day.
Looks like they might actually be going away for good now that the new road system is coming. I should've known the reason they were repackaged in 2019 and sold for a much cheaper price was clearance. I'm not super keen on BrickLinking road plates but it looks like it'll be our only option going forward...

Picked up my Monster Book of Monsters from Barnes & Noble today.  Stopped at Kohl's searching for more Christmas Tree Polybags & ended up coming home with one tree & 12 Series 21 CMFs.
I got doubles of the Shipwreck Guy & Centaur Warrior which was intentional.  That little Hermit Crab is way cute.  The Centaur Warrior is a bit tricky because you have to put the head at an angle to get the hair to stay on if you put the quiver on her back.
Just missing the Violin Kid & Airplane Girl.  Hopefully I won't have to wait too long to find more somewhere to get the two I'm missing.  I might need to get extras of the Paddle Surfer, Space Police Guy & Ladybug Girl.  There really isn't a bad one in the bunch.
I think they modeled the Cabaret Singer on Katy Perry, sure looks like her to me.

This is silly- I wonder if Lego has hired on extra help for the holiday rush as it seems a bit clueless.  I would definitely touch base with CS - they usually will sort out issues like this pretty quickly...

In November I made a few purchases (including my wife's Christmas present to me) but since then I've been holding back so I don't have that awkward realisation that I've got something twice, and what to do with the double.
I just hope my MiL remembers that she bought me the same micro-fighter 2 years running and doesn't buy me a third (ironically, if she got me the latest MF Micro-fighter, I might not mind that one doubled up, but in general it's a bad idea).
    Can't wait for Chrimbo!

Yeah, CS said my situation was bizarre. Refunded my $5 shipping charge. But of course, could not help me get a wreath or ectra VIP points. Wreath came back again in stock on Brickhound, for about 5 min. Vut I didnt bother. Its done that a few times.

Was ordered to locate instant chocolate pudding by the Mrs today, she works retail and works xmas eve.. Headed out to ToysRUs to find some and no luck however they did have some of the new lego sets for 2021 out! I passed on some as I shouldn't go to crazy but there was 2 that was a must have for today. My new city needs roads and Mando in beskar armor is to good to pass up. I also located some pudding too, so all ends well!

That is such a great set, bought it at launch as it literally had me reliving my childhood. My son absolutely loves it possibly more then me. It is what started him on his classic curiosity as it was vastly different from the star wars sets we had. Had to track down some older classic space but it is so expensive. Ended up buying Exploriens (after my time I would have been in high school) but still classic building and feel to it. We ended up with 2 to 3 of every exploriens and at least 1 of each of the UFO line. Fiber optic lighting! Just soo cool!

How did you get your wife to agree to this? Mine insists I buy no lego for November and December so she can figure out what I want and need. I already broke the rule and doubled one of the sets this year leaving her furious.. She won't let me pick what I want as she insists she wants it to be a surprise.. She has good tastes though but all my lego purchases have to be hidden for 2 months and gets tricky at times.

It is an epic set. It sort of passed me buy as I was concentrating on getting some SW sets instead, then the following summer the toy shop in the town where go camping with a group of friends was closing. On the sunday when it was shut I spied the set in the window for £35 on clearance. I drove back out the 25 miles the next morning to get it, my sob story earned me another£5 off the price. Bennys spaceship for £30 is probably my best bargain

I have all of last years already, some doubled as I have a large Hogwarts on the go, you will not be disappointed they are awesome! Can't wait to get the book sets coming out. I would definitely get the burrow too, one of my favorite builds lego has done to date.
